Plastic films are used in many commercial products, and have recently, found greater application because of their environmental friendliness. Most converted manufactures request the function corresponding to it. The surface modification of the film is aimed at to give the function, and there is big domination because it need not improve plastic polymer. The film manufacturer has the ILC technology. This is one of the technologies that industrially process the surface treatment. It is a technology that can apply while manufacturing the films. Different functions can be introduced by changing the composition of the spreading liquid. Here, I describe the current state of ILC technology for film surface modification.

One of the recent technology trends in paper for offset printing is reducing environmental impact. Methods include development of technology to utilize deinked pulp, improvement of the paper recycle ratio initiated by the Japan Paper Association, expansion of afforestation, utilization of wood resources from certificated forests, energy saving in manufacturing paper products, fuel conversion, etc. To promote utilization of deinked pulp, an ultraviolet (UV) breaker has been developed to remove UV ink and subliming ink in which a hyper-cell floatator is used to remove ink efficiently, and a de-sticking agent is in use to remove stickiness effectively. The target recycle ratio for paper in 2010 was 62%, and it was achieved in 2008. The goal for 2015 is 64%, which is thought to be difficult, and cooperation of the paper industry, consumers, and paper recyclers is needed. The area of afforestation is increasing yearly in the world to produce forest resources. Some of the wood chips are obtained from certificated forests which are managed sustainably. Black-liquor-containing wood components, waste timber, waste car tires, and waste plastics are being used to generate energy in order to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels in manufacturing.

The importance of biometrics was first recognized in 2001. The terrorist attacks in the United States in September 2011 significantly changed the evaluation of biometrics. Prior to September 2011, an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of biometrics and its applications was not available, and one could only refer to previous studies in this area. Biometrics had limited practical uses such as a system that grants entry and Personal Computer (PC) login. However, the event in September 2011 acted as a trigger to demand the reason for not using biometric technology as a mainstream technology. On the other hand, in Japan, biometric technology was steadily integrated into the infrastructure system in various areas: vein verification devices in the ATMs of banks in October 2004, e-passport (face), border control system (face and fingerprint) in 2006, and driver's license (face) in 2007. Applications of biometrics for public use such as social ID have gained importance. Biometrics represents unique personal information. Although a single entity can be responsible for verification of this information, stored data may be leaked or stolen, thus resulting in privacy issues. In order to ensure compliance with international standards, clear rules regarding interoperability and performance must be defined, thus increasing transparency in the selection of a product by the user. This study presents the latest developments in basic and advanced biometric technology.

Hikifuda -business advertisement- with an illustration created in the Edo era was developed in the Meiji era by the printing technology improvement to calendar types and even to page-a-day style calendars, which formed the fundamentals of today's calendar variations. Hikifudas with an illustration in a major way were appreciated by common people as plain arts and led to picture supplements of major newspapers and the emergence and popularity of business posters. However such common arts ceased in the 10s of the Showa era by the popularity of page-a-day style calendars from the Taisho to Showa eras and the controlled economy during the World War II, and did not recover before 1945. One may observe the enthusiasm and efforts of professional people dedicated in printing in the Meiji era, safe and comfortable life, long for material wealth, and change and accumulation of people's various desires through those hikifudas.

The use of electronic money based on digital data is spreading in today's society thanks to recent advances in information technology. In Japan, electronic payment systems such as Edy, Suica, PASMO, nanaco, and WAON have become increasingly popular, and they are used widely for making small payments. This study aims to assess the influence of the proliferation of electronic money on present currency by investigating the status of electronic money usage, the amount of currency in circulation, and other factors. The results indicated that the proliferation of electronic money influences the circulation of notes only slightly, while its effect on coins with smaller denominations is non-trivial.

The market and technical developments for flexo printing system in Japan was behind to Europe and America. Today's market share of flexo printing in Japanese printing industry is only 9% and most field of flexo printing is occupied by corrugated cardboard printing and paper bag printing. Flexo printing has a lot of advantages, such as the use of environment-friendly inks, suitability to printing with many varieties of small lot and short delivery date and energy saving high speed printing. Printing quality in flexo printing has improved and come to be almost comparable with gravure printing or offset printing thanks to technical innovation namely high-performance printing press, high-quality ceramic anilox roll, chambered doctor-blade system, digital plate-making system and so on. Recently in Japan much interest for flexo printing process has been increased especially in flexible packaging industry, due to current environmental issues and demand for cost reduction. At present some issues for expanding of flexo market have been pointed out. These include cost reduction of materials and machines, improvement of performance of water based on flexo ink, and development of prepress technology suitable for flexo. Flexo printing is expected to be improved in performance, replace gravure printing in flexible packaging industry and offset printing in carton industry and be used in new markets in near future. It has been pointed out that the combination of flexo printing with other printing systems, such as offset printing and gravure printing will lead to creation of new demands and new markets.

This paper reviews recent researches of color vision from the color appearance point of view. Color appearance depends on whether the stimulus appears as a self-luminous mode or surface mode. Color naming method is one of the useful technique to measure the perceptual appearance of color stimuli quantitatively. There are two major types of color naming, an opponent type and a categorical color naming. The former is based on the opponent-color theory and determines relative values of chromatic, achromatic, and four unique hue components, while the latter determines categorical perception of the stimulus. In this article, recent studies concerned with color appearance using either color naming technique as well as the investigations on blackness perception are introduced.

Recently, the digital transformation of university libraries has been underway. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (2011) proposed the digitization of educational facilities of universities, such as libraries. In addition to e-journals and e-books, libraries also provide learning environments, such as Learning Commons, which rely on IT. However, many universities have not yet entirely harnessed the potential of IT. Library digitization has many benefits, such as cost and space savings, and e-libraries can support students' voluntary learning, such as PBL. However, problems with the university library organization's IT capabilities can hinder the implementation of e-libraries. We conducted a case study to analyze the IT capabilities of the Tokyo City University library organization. IT-CMF has been proposed as a framework for analyzing an organization's IT capabilities. A questionnaire survey based on the IT-CMF was conducted with the university library organization. We identified the IT capabilities needed for a university library. First, from a high-level survey, we identified five important capabilities needed for IT utilization, namely risk management (RM), sourcing (SRC), business process management (BPM), business planning (BP), and financing (FF). Second, for a more in-depth survey, we interviewed the director of the library organization and determined SRC as the most important IT capability. We thus identified goals and scopes (A2) as the crucial capability-building blocks of SRC.

"Dream page" can produce an original book by registering a digital image of a photograph etc., on a special site, choosing a favorite layout, and editing images and sentences. The concepts "it can do" and "it is possible to make it for everyone easily" were realized by the software available only from our original "Web type application".The rich Internet application (RIA) technology with a friendly user interface has been selected in agreement with the theme. High levels of usability and high quality were achieved because of the adoption of RIA. Further evolution of the photo book service is expected. The method used by major SNSs such as "Facebook" and "mixi" will be expanded and optimized for various smart phone platforms that are expected to see major growth in the future.

In 1990, 5. 25 “mageneto-optical disk (MO) was released on the market, conforming to ISO standard. After that, 5.25 MO has been steadily growing up and doing a great deal as a file-server application for workstation so called auto-changer. On the other hand, right after 3.5” MO (230MB) following 128MB had been introduced, 3.5 “MR market has been rapidly becoming popular due to reasonable prices and inprovements of drive functions. The future status of 3.5” MO whose maket expantion is expected is mainly described including the technologies for higher recording density.

While the sales volume of electronic books (e-books) in Japan is expanding, it accounted for less than one-tenth of that of print books in 2013. In this study, our objective is to validate four hypotheses about e-book usage in order to develop strategies to promote e-book usage. We conducted a consumer survey to identify the differences between e-book and print book readers. In this study, we examine the degree of readers' interest in books in general, their awareness of the advantages and disadvantages of e-books, and the media they use for gathering information. By using a two-sample t-test, our analysis indicates that, although e-book readers are not very satisfied with print books, they are more interested in books than print-book readers. E-book readers place a higher value on the usefulness and usability of e-books than readers of print books do, while print book readers do not perceive a need for e-books in their daily lives. Further, e-book readers collect information through print books, magazines, and the Internet more frequently than print book readers do. Finally, we offer some suggestions for e-book related corporations for promoting e-book usage.
