"IPA Font" series(Ver.003 and upper), "IPAex Font" series (Ver.001 and upper) and "IPAmjMincho Font" (Ver.001 and upper) is able to use with the agreement to "IPA Font License", which is consistent with international business practice and endorsed by Open Source Initiative (OSI) as confirmed license with Open Source Definition (OSD). The recipient may create, use, reproduce and/or redistribute a derived font program under the terms for the licensed font program provided, that the recipient shall follow "IPA Font License" when redistributing the derived font program. In this paper, we investigate the situation that how the derived font program that modified Japanese open font is distributed with. As a result, we revealed that "IPA Font License" did some contribution for software industrial development. In addition, it was suggested that some derivation fonts might violate the license.

Levels of Japanese learners’ proficiency in English have been divided into two extremes. Proficiency level of the one extream is B1 or higher on the CEFR scale, while that of the other is A2 or lower. What is needed for English learners to attain B levels is intensive and extensive reading training on the basis of an integrated understanding of English Grammar. The number of those who do not have enough opportunities for this training is increasing, however. This is the first of my papers in which I examine the reasons which underlie this bipolarization, the problems it has been causing in the fields of English education, society, culture, and politics, and suggest ways to solve those problems.

In today's education, the main focus is on developing children as autonomous learners who can formulate their own questions and solve problems, and exploratory learning has come to be emphasized. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of conceptual instruction combined with reflection work to improve the quality of children's reflections, from the viewpoint that high-quality reflections are important in exploratory learning. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed that although the quality of the reflections increased significantly overall in the practice before combining the work with concept-based instruction, the difference tended to widen between the children whose quality increased and those whose quality did not. After combining the work with conceptual instruction, the overall quality of the reflections increased significantly, and the range of change was large. In addition, the differences among the children were smaller, indicating that the quality of reflection increased for more children. It was suggested that the development of the ability to perform high-quality reflection is important as a foundation for learning as an autonomous learner.

Bipolar disorder is one of the mood disorders and is a mental illness that alternates between depression and manic state. It is important that the patients become aware of early symptoms for effective prevention of disease recurrence. In this study, we qualitatively analyzed narratives of patients to investigate how they understand the disease of their own and what they typically experience early in the disease recurrence.Nine patients with bipolar disorders were allowed to talk freely about their disorders. In order to study the disease from the patient's point of view, we used a narrative interview method, and the data were analyzed using SCQRM. Based on our analysis, we developed 33 concepts and ten categories, which were further grouped into three core categories.Through this study, we learned that it is difficult for patients to become aware of their hypomanic state preceding the depression, and to recognize the cause that lead to a change in the disease phase. Further, our study suggests that narrative interviews help patients realize and talk about these aspects that are usually overlooked.

Though nursing has traditionally been regarded as a female profession, this image has changed with the times. In this study, we examined whether Japanese university students hold stereotypical beliefs of "nurses are competent and warm" from the perspective of the stereotype content model. In addition, since the style of nurse coats has also changed, we examined how different colors of nurse coats can affect the impression of female nurses. In the experiment, participants watched one of the illustration of nurse in a white coat, a pink coat, or a blue coat. Then participants completed gender related trait scales. As a result, participants rated female nurses as highly agentic (competent) and communal (warm). These impressions were stronger in white coat conditions than in pink and blue coat conditions. The Ministry of Education and Science has decided to replace the English Test for the National Center Test for University Admissions with private-sector English tests (e.g.Eigokentei, TOEFL, TOEIC.et.al) . One of the biggest problems of this change of policy is the appropriateness and fairness of using the results of different kinds of tests as a standard for university admissions. The Ministry of Education and Science is going to use CEFR as the index with which the scores of different kinds of exams are compared. This study examines the kind of problems that will emerge from this change of policy.

Makeup is an important dress for women, and is an important form of self-expression. The present study examined the effects of pink and blue makeup on self-cognition and gender-related choice among female college students. We hypothesized that female participants would perceive themselves more feminine and choose feminine things when they applied pink makeup than when they applied blue makeup. In the experiment, Japanese female college students were applied pink or blue makeup. Then participants completed a gender-related self-rating scale, and then chose which one they wanted feminine things or masculine things. Results showed that among participant in blue condition, frequency to makeup in everyday life predicted the gender related choice: the more frequently they do makeup, the more they chose feminine things. We discussed the role of makeup color on the feeling and gender-related self-cognition for women.
