In 1936 Kyoshi Takahama and Riichi Yokomitsu made a voyage from Japan to Europe on the same ship. After they landed at Marseilles, Kyoshi called on his son in Paris and traveled through Europe, while Yokomitsu went to see the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games after a stay in Paris and some travels through Europe. After their return to Japan, Kyoshi published Tofutsu Nikki, and Yokomitsu Oshu Kiko. Though they had similar experience on board, their records of their voyages are quite different. The purpose of this paper is to compare these two works and to consider their difference and the common social background.

座標軸として和辻哲郎の『風土』(1935)を旅行記として注目することで、漫遊記を多く生み出した欧州航路、旅行者と移民の双方を運んだ南洋航路、そして主に労働者を「内地」へ供給した朝鮮航路と、性格の異なる三つの航路の記録を対比し、戦間期日本の心象地図の一側面を明らかにすることができた。和辻の『風土』が展開した文明論は、戦間期の旅行記という文脈に置くことで、心象地図という抽象化と類型化に大きく棹さした可能性が明らかになった。
