1. アズマヒキガエルは行動域内で冬眠し, 早春の繁殖期には, そこから池まで移動する。2. 繁殖期には, 大部分のヒキガエルは毎年同じ池に集まり繁殖活動を行う。しかし, 一部は池を変えることがあり, この場合, ほとんどが一度だけである。そして, 移動する池は近隣の繁殖池の間で行われる例がもっとも多い。3. 繁殖活動後は再び行動域にもどる。そして, 行動域にもどる時は, 特に池から離れている場合, 池の付近で1か月以上春眠し, 晩春から初夏になってから移動するものと考えられる。

Stomach contents of the following 12 species, 202 individuals of hawks collected by the sinior author during 1924-1937 in nothern part of Japan were analysed by the junior author: Falco peregrinus(5), F. columbarius(6), F tinnunculus(13), Buteo buteo(57) Spizaetus nipalensis(6), Circus aeruginosus(5), Accipiter gentilis(14), A. nisus(41), A. virgatus(23), Milvus migrans(15), Pernis apivorus(12), and Butastur iudicus(6), The specimens were collected throughout the year but more in winter except from some buzzards, goshawks, sparrow-hawks, honey buzzards and buzzard-hawks, the last two being summer visitors.The result can be shown by the table below:It is to be noted that although many passerine birds are taken by these hawks, the Tree Sparrow, which is the seasonal pest to rice crops, far more outnumbered other species; for example, it occupied 73% of the diet of Sparrow-hawk, Accipiter nisus.

Between October and April, many sea-birds have been found dead on the beach on Niigata coast concentrated in Kashiwazaki area. This part is south of Sado I. and east of Noto Peninsula and owing to this situation, winds and sea currents are very complicated. Since 1959 to 1965, 16 species, 73 birds were collected and the correlations with temperature and winds were considered (possibly positive with day variation in temperature and wind velocity and consequent waves). From the sea currents and the state (freshness) of drifted birds, the distribution of these birds in March and November was estimated.

This report is the result obtained from a series of investigations on toads living in the National Park for Nature Study. I have not yet read the report by telemetry on investigations of moves by toads. Our efforts were undertaken by methods to confirm locations of toads. To pursue their moves, location telemetry was utilized. Our method was to place a transmitter on the back of toad, and we received by receiving apparatus (MM-BP type) produced by Meisei Electric firm. By this way, we confirmed locations, using flat board for survey. This method keeps high precision. As for the distance of 10 meters, maximum error might be I meter at most. Toads used had weight of 130 grams or more. Definitely they were adults. Transmitters had weight of 10-13 grams. Waves transmitted had 5 cycles. Investigation on five individuals at the same time was quite possible. However, in practice, interferences or jammings by hams, etc, were frequent. Consequently, investigation on two or three individuals was our inevitable limit. As for the entire result, examples of investigation are yet few. And definite figures are not yet gathered. However, roughly speaking, the following matters were clarified. As for toads, their particularly active zones of time are not yet ascertained. Comparatively speaking, encircling after sunset, midnight and before sunrise, their active time zones are likely to concentrate. The distance they move per day is fairly wide in individual difference, or by season, it seemed. But the maximum was 15-20 meters and the average was 15-20 meters. However, even the same toad differed in scope of move according to days. Or, sometimes similar tendency lasted. Interference by near-by toads has been considered nil. Anyhow, that point is not yet fully confirmed. Therefore, "home range" is regarded to exist. But it is difficult to form any positive assertion through the said recent investigation on the point.
