The object of this research is to examine the human being as individual from the point of view of humanistic geography, in connection with the concepts of distance, place and space. However, it goes without saying that the author does not totally deny the excellent results of research in positivism. This paper, rather, is an attempt to strengthen the aspects of the study of the human being in which the approach of positivism tend to be deficient. In this research, the author has reexamined the concepts of distance, map, place and spare, by analysing in particular the ideas of Bollnow, O. F., Tuan, Y.-F., Merleau-Ponty, Isnard, H., Claval, P. among a large body of literature.
