道徳教育の資料として、スポーツを題材としたものは多い。スポーツと道徳との結びつきは、すでに明治年間に見られ、旧制中学校の生徒自身もスポーツが精神の向上に資するという主張を行っていた。日清戦争後の時期は、国家を担う人物の身体の養成という観点で精神的側面は希薄であったが、日露戦争前後には、文弱・奢侈といった青年批判論に呼応し、運動の精神的な意義を主張するようになった。さらに1910年代の野球害毒論に対する反論として、野球を修養の手段として論じるものも現れた。このように、時代状況や外部からの批判に応じ、運動の精神性や道徳的意義を主張する論が生徒の側からも生まれたといえるだろう。and sports was discussed by junior highschool students in Meiji Era. The significance of sport has been discussedin association with the state and army after Sino-Japanese War. The sport was discussed as countermeasureagainst the corrupt youth before and after Russo-Japanese War. Around 1919, enthusiasm in baseball wascritisized. But some students refuted such criticism. They insist that they can improve their personarity(shuyo)by baseball.

In this paper the notion of self-government ("jichi") in the Taisho era has been clarified by surveying how studentsand teachers in those days described self-government. By examining political thoughts on self-government, the notion ofself-government has been classified into two categories. In order to classify there are two important concepts, namely independenceand self-decision. The self-government by students without independence could be subdued by the school.In the self-government without independence, students could decide in themselves as far as the teachers permitted. Itcan be named "nominal self-government". The self-government by students without self-decision may have been independentof school but could be controlled by upper grade students. The control by upper grade students was often usedby teachers as a system to keep discipline. The self-government by students with independence and self-decision canhardly be recognized in this paper.

旧制実業学校の校友会雑誌の、後身の高等学校での所蔵状況についてアンケート調査を行った。全て所蔵している学校が5校、所蔵なしが19件など、中学校や高等女学校に比べると実業学校の校友会雑誌は所蔵されている割合が低いことが明らかになった。

I attempt to examine self-government by students in koyukai (student-teacher association in schools in prewar Japan) by analyzing the rules of koyukai in junior high school. Self-government by students in koyukai has not fully examined. Surely, teachers had powers over students in koyukai. The chairman was a principal, and the club managers were teachers. Student officers had to follow the teachers. The chairman had great power over the meeting. In these points, the system of koyukai was contrary to self-government by students. But self-government by students was seen in several points. Students participated in enacting rules of koyukai, and deciding the budget. They elected their own officers. But these self-government activities did not fully develop, because the word of "jichi" (self-government in Japanese) meant mainly order or discipline, and koyukai was functioned as an organization to control students.

This study collects the most basic data concerning the alumni magazine of the old system junior high school based on the nationwide survey, and does the analysis by the questionnaire. That is, how was the alumni magazine published, and those starting year, preservation, and the situation and the issue frequency etc. of owning are clarified in the old system junior high school in various places. In addition, the composition of a concrete content of magazine in each alumni magazine is analyzed, and the name, the content of each column and each item, and those changes are examined. In addition, there is a problem of the relation etc. between the organization, that is, the system of the edit of the alumni magazine and the student and the participation of the principal and the teacher. The realities of the student autonomy at the period of prewar days, and they are a deeply related, and extremely interesting problems. Furthermore, let's clarify the transition in original of the situation of the contribution of the student and publishing and the passing of an eras. And, let's add consideration to the function for the alumni magazine to have and the role out which it carried based on the above-mentioned analysis at the end.
