本論文では, 自動車の進行方向の速度変動に起因する乗り心地に関して検討する. 自動車走行中に伴う速度変動に対して, 乗り心地評定実験を行い, 乗り心地評定値と速度変動を表す諸物理量との関連を検討した. 進行方向の加速度およびジャークを説明変量とし, 被験者の乗り心地評定値を目的変量として, これらを関係付ける線形重回帰モデルを構築し, 客観的な乗り心地指数を定式化することを試みた. その結果, 実験より得られた被験者の乗り心地評定値と構築したモデルより推定した乗り心地指数との間に高い相関があり, 提案した線形重回帰モデルを用いた乗り心地評価の手法が有効であることが確認された. こうした研究を進めることにより, 乗り心地を規定する物理的情報をある種の乗り心地指数として運転者にフィードバックすることで運転手の運転手法を改善し, 乗客に優しい運転が実現できることが期待される.

People can enjoy Japanese traditional comic storytelling by both hearing the voice and watching the gesture of a teller. Some records of comic storytelling are available only by a voice record. If the animated motion for the talk is generated, we may enjoy storytelling more. We propose two methods to generate animation in accordance with a talk. One is a real time teaching; animation is generated at real time using a mouse. The other is a semiautomatic method; the timing for a new motion will be searched and the candidates of possible motion patterns are shown to an operator. The operator will choose a motion pattern fitted with the talk of a teller. Experimental results showed the effectiveness of these methods. The methods will be applicable to the development of animation fitted with voice or music data.

Non-restricted estimate of three-dimensional (3D) walk trajectory during indoor locomotion is discussed. The walk trajectory is derived by the integration of the 3D acceleration of subject's foot. A sensor system is composed of an 3D accelerometer, three gyroscops, and one geomagnetic sensor and is attached on the tiptoe. Integral errors of the acceleration and the angular velocity are modified to keep the continuity of the velocity and the posture of the sensor system between the swing phase and the stance phase. Six subjects performed walk experiments including level walk, ascending, and descending in an office building to verify the proposed method. The experimental results show that the estimation error of 3D location to the actual walk distance is less than 10 [%] and the application of the proposed method improves the precise measurement of 3D walk trajectory.

This paper describes the development of a driver assistance system for improving passenger ride comfort of automobiles. Based on results of psychophysical experiments of subjective ride comfort evaluation, a linear multiple regression model that evaluates the ride discomfort index (RDI) is proposed using longitudinal acceleration and jerk of the automobile as explanatory variables. In order to reduce the ride discomfort caused by the velocity fluctuation of an automobile, a microcomputer-based driver assistance system that evaluates the RDI and informs the driver of the RDI in real time by both visual and auditory means is developed. Experiments show that, with the help of the system, a driver can improve his/her driving skills and modify his/her driving behavior to provide passenger-friendly maneuvers and improve passenger ride comfort, thus verify the usefulness of the proposed driver assistance system.

Main objective of this study is to evaluate physical activity by means of a portable device utilizing accelerometers and a barometer. A simple and effective algorithm was proposed to classify physical activities including vertical movements such as stair climbing, and estimates its exercise intensities. The propose method performed successful classifications and feasible estimation of the energy consumption in the experimental study comparing with the measured values of the expiratory gas monitoring system. The result suggested that the correct evaluation of vertical movements made an improvement in the estimation of energy consumptions, which provides better assessment in physical therapies.
