著者らは,かつて里山として利用されてきた自然環境を持続可能で魅力的な地域づくりに役立てる方策を「里山グリーンインフラ」と称し,個々の活動の有効性の検証や社会実装について議論している.本稿では,印旛沼流域に広く分布し,かつて水田として利用され,現在では多くが耕作放棄地になっている「谷津」(台地面に刻まれた枝状の幅の狭い谷)に着目し,谷津の湿地としての維持・再生や,その流域の台地・斜面の草原や樹林の維持・再生によってもたらされうる多面的機能を,既存の知見や現地での調査結果から論じる.具体的には,谷底部を浅く水温の高い水域として維持することは,脱窒反応を通して下流への栄養塩負荷を軽減しうる.谷底部での湧水を保全するとともに水分を保持する畔状の構造に成形することで,絶滅危惧種を含む多様な生物の生息場となる湿地環境を生み出しうる.また定量的評価に課題はあるものの,雨水の流出抑制や浸透を通して治水にも寄与する可能性がある.

We observed the seasonal occurrence and foraging behaviors of a terrestrial red mite, <i>Balaustium murorum</i> (Hermann), on the roof of a building in Osaka and analyzed the stable isotope ratios in the mite and three prey species to study its feeding habits. On direct observation, the adult mites formed groups and fed on small insects and anthers that had fallen on the roof. When pollen of the grass <i>Polypogon fugax</i> Steud. was experimentally added to the roof surface, the adult mites fed more frequently than they did without the pollen. We measured the stable isotope ratios of C and N in the mite and three prey species, <i>P. fugax</i>, a plant louse (Psyliidae sp.), and a cyanobacterium (<i>Hassallia</i> sp.), and estimated the contribution of each to the mite. This showed that <i>P. fugax</i> made the largest contribution, about 50%, irrespective of the estimation method. From these results, we concluded that the pollen was the most important food resource for the mite, although it is an omnivore.
