The specimen, collected from New Caledonia in December 1987, was identified as Cladosiphon novae-caledoniae KYLIN. As KYLIN (1940) has not made its description, this is the first one presented in paper. It's morphological characters were compared with those of the "type specimen" in the BotanicalMuseum, University of Lund and some species of Cladosiphon collected in Pacific Ocean. It has a potential for a new mariculture resource in New Caledonia.

Trimeresurus flavoviridis (Tf) serum proteins were fractionated by anmnonium sulfate precipitation to five portions depending on the differences of its saturation percentages, that is, 0-20%, 20-30%, 30-40%, 40-50%, and 50-70%. The effects of these proteins on Tf venom-induced rat skeletal muscle damage were investigated with closer attention to histopathological features of impairment, necrosis, and regeneration ofmuscle fibers. The knowledges which portion of Tf serum proteins is effective for prevention of local lesions caused by Tf venom should shed light on the effective medical treatment after bitten by Tf snake. In consequence, it was found that the necrotic change of the rats inoculated with Tf crude venom together with the serum protein fraction of ammonium sulfate saturation percentage 40-50% was the smallest compared to those of the rats tested with other Tf serum protein fractions.

The rabbitfishes (Pisces: Siganidae) have long been considered good candidates for aquaculture. Some biological attributes including morphometric relationships (length-length, length-weight) and conditionfactors of three siganids of the Western Indian Ocean were estimated over peak April-August monsoon season in Southcoast Kenya. Specimens were caught using basket traps "malema", one of the main gearsin the traditional fishery. A total of 64, 260 and 736 specimens of Siganus stellatus, S. canaliculatus and S. sutor were recorded, with mean±standard error for total length (TL) as 16.0±0.6cm, 22.5±0.3cm and26.5±0.2cm with corresponding wet body weights (BWs) of 71.28±8.53g, 158.58±6.45g and 258.80±4.30g respectively. TL-BW relationships were best expressed by log10BW=2.597log10TL-1.356 for S. stellatus,log10BW=2.800log10TL-1.635 for S. canaliculatus and log10BW=2.716log10TL-1.484 for S. sutor with relative condition factors expressed by Kn = BW/ [(4.41x10-2) (TL2.597)], Kn = BW/ [(2.32x10-2) (TL2.800)]and Kn = BW/ [(3.28x10-2) (TL2.716)] for the three species respectively. TL and BW were significantly correlated with Kn and K. To the best knowledge of the authors, this study provides the first L-W relationship and Kn data for S. stellatus within the species geographical distribution. The overall results and equations provide useful simple tools for in-situ gauging of overall health of wild siganid populations inSouthcoast Kenya for fisheries management and assessment of potential aquaculture species.

The relationship between the number of male Spodoptera litura caught by a pheromone trap and the hourly mean wind velocity was studied for four months in the field using an automatic counting system. The maximum number of males trapped per hour was observed at wind velocities of 1-4 m/sec. Slightly fewer male moths were trapped when the wind blews strong, although more than 60 males/trap/h were still caught during the daily peak hours (0200-0400h) during very strong wind blews, when a typhoon was approaching. In order to monitor the field occurrence of the adult moth using pheromone traps, the mating activity of the moth and the numbers of males may be more important factors than wind velocity. We investigated the seasonal occurrence, growth, age, and life history of Aurelia aurita in the Taniyama areaof Kagoshima Bay, also some of the environmental factors such as the specific gravity, pH and the temperature,influence the appearance of Aurelia aurita in the surface layer. The size of an individual depends on environmentalfactors. In contrast the number of branching points of radial water vascular canals increasing with time, independentlyof environmental factors, and therefore could be used as an age index.By using age index, the population of Aurelia aurita sampled may consist a mixture of two cohorts. Theassumption may be that the life span of Aurelia aurita is up to two years.By examining all stages of the life history of Aurelia aurita in Kagoshima Bay and comparing it with that ofother locatives, it is found that the life form of Aurelia varies with their environmental circumstances. We suggestthat how the habitat influence the life history in Aurelia should now be reviewed.
