The Beast in the Jungle, which was written by Henry James in 1903, has been an object of study for a long time. Not a few critics seem to agree on the point that this is a story of a man who is under an obsession of something rare and strange and cannot accept a woman's love. But it is important to bear in mind that John Marcher, the protagonist of this work, does not remember even having such an obsession. It is May Bartram who reminds him of his secret as a missing link for their association. The aim of this paper is to examine relationships between Marcher and May over the obsession. I will use the term "fiction" to refer to his obsession and consider their relation by regarding Marcher as a <narrator/writer> of the fiction and May as a <listener/reader> of it. Viewed in this light, we can regard this short story as a kind of interpretation game over the fiction.

In April 1559 the long series of Habsburg-Valois wars was brought to an end in the peace treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis. For the next few decades, western European international relations were dominated by civil warsin France and the Habsburg Netherlands. This article examines how political and religious factors led to theoutbreak of a series of religious civil wars in France, commonly known as the French Wars of Religion. The first chapter describes the religious policies of Francis I and Henry II and the growth of Protestantismin France under their reign. Despite mounting persecution after the mid-1530s, Protestantism spread to manyparts of France especially after the mid-1550s. Henry II was particularly alarmed by the spread of Calvinismamong the nobility. At the end of the war in 1559, Henry was determined to give more attention to the religiousproblem in France. Instead, his premature death in July 1559 put the country into political and religiousturmoil. The second chapter examines events leading to the outbreak of the first religious war in April 1562. AfterHenry's death, the religious tension was exacerbated by a power struggle among noble families – such as theGuises, the militant defenders of the Catholic faith, and the Bourbons, who were sympathetic to the Protestantcause – to dominate Henry's young sons, Francis II( 1559-60) and Charles IX( 1560-74). Their mother,Catherine de Medici, tried hard to maintain a religious peace in France by means of a compromise betweenthe two faiths, but in vain. The' massacre of Vassy' in March 1562 provoked a Huguenot army to capture Orléans. The third chapter provides a brief description of the war itself and explains how the absence of a largestanding army and the crown's inability to fund military efforts for any protracted period of time prevented itfrom defeating the Huguenots. To sum up, this article shows that the war defies a simple explanation and was caused by various politicaland religious factors including the untimely death of Henry II, the power struggle among noble factions, thedesire of many noblemen to display their military virtue, the belief of many Catholics that Protestantism wasa serious threat to the peace and stability of their community, and the impossibility of achieving doctrinal compromise.

The late Edo period was the time when dilettantism flourished. Many literary aficionados in the Kyoto-Osaka district wrote novels, annotated classical literature, held waka and kanshi poetry parties, invited their friends to sencha tea and praised pictures they had drawn with one another. Literary men had many pseudonyms: they used different noms de plume when they made kanshi: haikai, waka and kyoka, drew pictures, and wrote novels. The various names stood for sundry characteristics of the person. Hiratsuka Hyosai was one of the most conspicuous literary aficionados in Kyoto. He had many different pen names mainly because he was affected by his friends of high society. It was also because he did not want his real name known to the world, as he was a shogunate official, a police sergeant of the Higashimachi magistrate's office of Kyoto.

It is the most important for little children that using their whole bodies, they imitate somethingand express freely their selves with various kinds of rhythm. We continue to create works of body expression and introduce those to teachers in a nurseryschool or a kindergarten. So we should know how they put the work into practice and consider whatfactors give little children good effects through enjoying body expression. We give a concrete example for discussion. We created a work,"Wish fine day tomorrow",forwhich we got the idea from daily children lives.Little 62 children, four years old, could be enjoying our work in the athletic festival of their kindergarten. We could see,by cooperation of the kindergarten, how they performed it as their ownexpressions and what influences they could have in their daily lives after their experiences. Then,we consider teaching materials of body expression and how to teach them.

When a person Learns many things in a society, he/she cannot learn efficiently by only the immediate learning. Learning by observation of the model becomes important. It consists of four stages. The first is the attention stage at which a learner pays attention to conspicuous characteristics from many modeling stimuli. The second is the stage at which obserbed matters are kept in the memory. The third is the movement and reproduciton stage at which is memorized. The fourth is the stage of reinforcement and motivation toward learning. These stages are closely related to learning behaviours in classes. Therefore, classes should be planned so that a learner can take these four stages to the full. This paper states the importance of the modeling theory in the computer information education at the university level from different viewpoints and does research on what situation it can be applied to.

In this research, we carried out the autism spectrum disorder(ASD) screening questionnaire(ASSQ-R)for 119 child nursing institutionalized children of three places in K city in order to examine inter-rater reliabilityof ASSQ-R and search problems existed in this type of screening in child nursing homes. As a result,it revealed that although ASSQ-R showed an appropriate inter-rater reliability, it had a difficulty of distinguishingASD from reactive attachment disorder. On the basis of these results and the results of a more detailqualitative analysis of the questionnaire, we pointed out that the neuropsychological tests of motor and perceptualdevelopment were indispensable to distinguish between ASD and reactive attachment disorder.

It was common to use the letter [尊] as a respectable title for dignitaries or superiors such as god or emperor. The letter [尊] used in this poem was to be attached to [石上乙麻呂] (Iso-no-kami no Otomaro), however, such a usage of the letter was not customary in the age of Manyo-shu. Although the main object of this paper is the letter [尊] used in this poem, it is necessary to examine the usage of the letter in other materials. In this paper I examine the usage of the letter [尊] in [多胡碑] (Tagohi), a kind of literary form called 「符碑」 (Fuhi) which is written in the style for giving directions from superiors to inferiors. I also examine its usage on the wooden notice-board which was recently excavated archaeologically at the ruined ancient court "Heijo-kyu" in the ruin of "Nagaoka-kyo" (the ancient city of Nagaoka-kyo). I also examine its usage in historical documents stored in Shoso-in. Examining these types of usage of [尊], it is found that the meaning of the letter is about the same as [~氏] or [~さん] of today. However, the letter is not used for an ordinary person; it is used for a person when he is conscious of his public position. This is the conclusion of this paper.
