`Cinderella', one of the most popular fairy tales in Japan, is known as the version of written text by Walt Disney. However,` Cinderella' is not a literary work, but folklore, which has been orally handed by European folks from generation to generation, and collected by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm in their books of fairy tales. In this paper, I take up the text of` Cinderella' from Grimms' Fairy Tales and try to interpret the meanings of metaphors in this folklore. Through the research for this paper, the image of the heroine changes dramatically. No fairies and no glass slippers appeared in the text, but only a hazel twig and golden slippers appeared there. These differences give the heroine quite a different image. Being passive and obedient, the heroine changes into a proactive and powerful woman. Despite the word` Cinderella-Syndrome', which represents women who remain passive and just wait patiently, the European folklore depicts Cinderella as a clever, nasty and athletic woman. This paper offers a challenge to conventional ideas about Cinderella from the perspective of history, ethnology and Gender-Studies.

The Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Administration advocates“break away from the postwar regime”. As a part of measures crystallizing his idea, the government party occupying an absolute majority of the Diet forced to amend the fundamental law of education completely, and enforced the new fundamental law of education,on December 22,2006. The original law was made in 1947,based on the educational philosophy and principles which profoundly criticized and denied the prewar educational system under the imperial rescript on education. In addition, the government party passed three education- related bills(school education law, teacher license law, organization and management of the local educational administration). What is the true purpose of successive amendments on educational laws? What kind of problems in terms of educational science do they have? This paper examines the new fundamental law of education carefully, and, pointing out the problems of the law, clarifies the real figure of“break away from the postwar regime”in the field of education. This paper also proposes some viewpoints to overcome the problems.

How have the TELOPs run from the 1960s to the 2000s? What part have the TELOPs played in the Japanese TV programs? Japanese variety shows often use the TELOPs and writing information on the set. The viewers who enjoy the program with the TELOPs are said to have some interest in the TELOPs, but not enough research has been conducted. NHK is now prepared for those who carry on various researches. This paper investigates the actual conditions of those writing information. In this paper I use the last 50-year writing date, cited from the variety shows in the NHK archives. The amount of writing information has gradually increased from the 1960s to the 2000s. The TELOPs have two functions. The first function is to clarify the composition of the program. The second function is to bring about the stage effects and" hook" the viewers. This research suggests that the writing tool has much changed the writing information including the TELOPs. New writing technology has" hooked" viewers who are doing something else besides watching TV.

Nara Park is located in Nara Prefecture in Japan and represents an image of the ancient capital of Nara. This study discusses changes that were made to the sports facilities constructed in the park and the change of the image of Nara Park. Nara Park was created in 1880 and was affected by a conflict between changes in the times, which require the development of up-to-date facilities, and the park’s ability to serve as a sightseeing attraction, which requires the preservation of its scenery. In 1910, an athletics stadium, tennis courts, and a baseball field were built. In 1928, a swimming pool was constructed and a comprehensive sports facility was added, which gave Nara Park a complete sporting site. Nara Park is set on land that was formerly a temple but, once the sports facility was created, it became a“ modern” public park. In 1988, the“ Nara Silkroad Exposition” was held there. For this event, permission was given to eliminate the“ modern” elements, which referred to the sports park, and to preserve it as an authentic“ ancient city.” Consequently, all of the sports facilities were removed. Through the expulsion of“ modern” elements, the differences between“ modern” and“ the Ancient Capital of Nara” have created the current format of the Nara brand.

Mental control ( psychological-competitive ability) is necessary for athletes to demonstrate their bestperformance. It has been assumed that an individual's personality is also involved in demonstratingpsychological-competitive ability; thus, the present study was conducted in order to clarify the relationshipbetween psychological-competitive ability and personality. The diagnostic Inventory of Psychological-Competitive Ability for Athletes ( DIPCA3) and Permeability Control Power Egogram ( PCE)were utilized to measure psychological-competitive ability and personality, respectively. University andhigh school athletes were categorized into superior and inferior groups, and a comparison was conductedbetween groups.Regarding the relationship between personality and psychological-competitive ability,it was suggestedthat university athletes in the superior group improved their competitiveness and cooperativenessby switching their ego-states appropriately, and self-confidence and strategic ability were loweredin the inferior group by repressing the expression of feelings into actions by the ego.High school athletesin the superior group had a strong desire to show their strength, and their egos motivated themto direct their mental stability and concentration,self-confidence,and strategic ability towards thisideal; however,a strong and dominant ego also lowered cooperativeness. In the inferior group, adominating ego that can be switched appropriately improved strategic ability or an ego that drivesathletes to act according to their own values and ideas improved self-confidence. It seemed that anego that represses the expression of feelings into actions lowered mental stability and concentration.Since the mental ability required of each individual varied due to differences in athletic level, careerand supervising method, different trends were observed between groups. In order to demonstratethe best performance for individual athletes at different levels,it is important to establish a personalitythat allows flexible switching of ego,and enhance mental competitive ability along with the establishmentof personality.

The significance of the autism echolalia and vocal imitations in 1- year- old normal children is considered from Jacksonistic point of view. In this study, through the observations of the replies or utterances in 1-yearold normal children, it was revealed that the automatic vocal imitations frequently existed immediately before the appearance of the intentional replies or utterances in them. Such automatic responses were thought to play a fixed role in language acquisition and development of communication in 1-year-old normal children. In contrast, the autism echolalia, one kind of the automatic response, in many cases, is not followed by the intentional responses possibly due to a difficulty in the access to the intentional responses or the immaturity of the intentional processes. Recently the autism echolalia seems to have some communicational functions. On the basis of the Jacksonism, such communicational functions of the autism echolalia are assumed to be the products of the lower order automatic responses(echolalia) having accomplished some developmental changes to communicate with other persons.

We, the Society for the Research of Modern Culture of Kobe, have been studying the cultural formation of the port city of Kobe from various aspects. In this paper( which will form the first part of our whole research) we deliver a report on the trend of movies, theater, performing arts, fine arts and photography in the city, by scrutinizing a series of articles, Zassô-en, written by the Kobe correspondents, in the newspaper Kobe Furoku, Osaka Asahi Shimbun, issued in 1923. Through the Zassô-en articles we can see not only various incidents reported by the correspondents but also their love for their hometown, which encouraged them to plan and carry out diverse cultural and artistic events in the town. We can also find the trend of the picture houses and moviegoers in Shinkaichi, Kobe, in those days, especially the way the entrepreneurs attracted people. Concerning the theater, the articles tell us that the things gladly accepted then were comedy and Shinkokugeki.

During the period of Vichy (1940-1944), the educational system was reformed according to the slogan,“Travail, Famille, Patrie”, and“ Révolution nationale”. In elementary schools“ instruction morale et civique” of the third republic was replaced“ Eduation morale, civique et patriotique”. Originally, the government decided that it could include“ religious education” in public elementary schools, but the Minister of public education, Carcopino, made a new law and forbade religious education in the schools. Many new textbooks were pubished in this period. The contents were similar to those of the first period of the third republic, although Phillipe Pétain attacked the spirit of third republic.

These results were interpreted to indicate the following traits: primitive aggression, accumulated hostility, weakness of ego-control, obsessive and compulsive tendency, poor sociability and retarded human interactions. Presumably such a deviated personality was closely related to his anti-social behavior.

This study indicated that the number of studies on psychiatric social work practices has not necessarilybeen increased compared to those of social welfare since psychiatric social workers became nationallycertified.Psychiatric social work is a field of interdisciplinary studies. This interdisciplinarity has an advantage insolving problems proactively through multidisciplinary cooperation; however, this also has the disadvantageof having to gather them in one place when performing academic conceptualization and theorization ofpractices developed in this field. Thus, the result showed in the beginning does not mean that studies on psychiatric social work practiceshave not been advanced, but rather that outcomes of psychiatric social studies have dispersed to differentfields of study, and have not been systematically accumulated. The lives of people with mental illness can be improved, if we can academically integrate psychiatricsocial work practices, and effectively disseminate knowledge and skills. To achieve that, much attentionmust be paid to improving the quality of each study as well as accumulating them.

Reading is said to be important to the development and education of children. Moreover, fact-finding sur veys performed on children are being cited, mainly by various local governments(i.e. boards of education). This study examines students who hope to become librarians, a profession which connects children with reading, and investigates the context for practicing reading in early childhood. What sort of reading experi ences did these students have during early childhood, and what encouraged them to practice reading? This study analyzes the investigation that these students filled out reading experience during early childhoods, from their current perspective as adults, focusing on this context. Specifically, a descriptive survey was performed on students taking the librarian curriculum at Mukogawa Women's University over the two years of FY 2011 and 2012. The librarian curriculum is taken by about 150 to 200 students in the School of Letters Department of Japanese Language and Literature, and Junior College Division Department of Japanese Language. Students enrolled in the curriculum have a generally positive at titude toward reading. How does an appreciation for books, combined with the primary content and aims of the librarian curriculum, affect the disposition of the librarian? Differences became clear, corresponding with the development of the students during preschool, lower ele mentary school, upper elementary school, and onward. For example, a variety of contexts corresponding with development were seen, such as influence from early childhood living situations that conferred on the chil dren a desire to read, contact with family members who encouraged reading, and momentum toward reading imparted by relationships. In summary, the study confirmed that the richness of early childhood experiences with reading among stu dents in the librarian curriculum is important to their appreciation for reading, encouragement of appreciation for reading in others, and application of reading in learning activities. Finally, based on these results, promo tion and enhancements of initiatives aimed at establishing reading during early childhood were proposed.

What kind of" learning" should be developed in our university library? The library is considered" a knowledge- center." It is also recognized as a space for active learning, apart from classroom interaction- by the community, Japanese educators, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The university library aims to provide effective methods for learning-in both typical and modern style materials and techniques-to encourage students to spend more time studying on their leisure time in a fun and interactive way. At present, our university strives to conduct an educational program and informative research which would encourage the students to be more independent. Therefore, we have developed and structured a library wherein students could work on their school requirements by themselves with ease and easy access. We aim to provide a place that can be mutually shared by both students and instructors, which would later yield to a more intellectual learning. We value education, and we believe that the best way to contribute to our university is to provide our students and teachers an appropriate area where they can further enhance their wisdom and knowledge, through various forms of media. This essay will provide detailed concepts for each floor at the time of development( as of November 2013). The library remains a solemn environment to allow the people to concentrate and focus on what they are studying on. It also has an area that would involve activities and workshops, suited for lively group learning and PBL. Up until now, our library did not have such activity-creating concepts. This change is foreseen as a vital diversity for learning. In order to reform this, we conducted a student survey to find out what more can be offered for the betterment of our students' education. As a result, the majority of the students wanted to have a more" feminine space". This implies their demand that they be given a learning space which could be styled in a more fashionable, adult-like way, be equipped with the latest information tools, be more spacious and organized, be more interactive, and for it to still have a quiet environment for those who would want to study on their own. The students want to be given a space where they can discuss matters with each other. They also suggested on having a lounge area where they can listen to music, and have their snacks and drinks. Their belongings are also one of their major concerns, so they would like to be given room to place their belongings somewhere close to them, as not to bother other library enthusiasts. These opinions among the student body was then evaluated and discussed among the staff and faculty members of the university these improvements were necessary to provide a more interesting library which would encourage students to use more often than that of the past. We, the instructors of the university, also aim to make our students inquisitive, logical, and analytical, in every possible way. With this library development, we envision a more comfortable space for learning for both the students and the instructors. These changes are not merely for the purpose of dealing with the students' pleas, but because we strongly believe that such vital changes were necessary to create a more improved educational outcome in accordance to the pursuit of excellence the students and instructors can contribute to the university, and vice versa. Through this project, instructors and students will be able to work face-to-face. The instructors will then learn what the students want. The students will be able to develop the required skills needed for their education and research. This is one learning area our university should develop.
