From May 2015, leather products come in contact with human skin may not be placed on the EU market by REACH regulation if they are shown to contain over 3 ppm of Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI). For watch strap, a large amount of chromium is contained because of chromium tanning. Even if only Trivalent Chromium is contained when manufacturing the straps, it was already proved that Hexavalent Chromium is generated subsequently by oxidation. Therefore, Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI) Elimination Agent was developed. This agent restores Hexavalent Chromium to Trivalent Chromium and prevent oxidation of Trivalent Chromium.

This is a short history of Japanese watch industry after the second world war. In Japan, clock industry started in 1860s, and watch industry began in 1890s. Watch and clock industry developed rapidly, but in 1941 the second world war broke out, so that these industries were stopped for the munition production. Since the war, from 1945, these revived, then high quality and big quantity were required. I try to report of watch industry development, on products research and production technology.

This paper describes an air-viscous slow governor used in Spring Drive Sonnerie. Spring Drive movement makes no noise during hand movement. This is an ideal condition for installing mechanism for striking a bell. Japanese Buddhists' prayer bell "orin" was chosen for the sound source. Our objective was to create a sonnerie that offered the resonance and the clear tone of an orin. The reverberation resonance of an orin is produced by a hammer that strikes the bell at approximately 3-second interval. Along with the smoothly flowing second hand, the sound imparts a sense of slow and tranquil flow of time. To achieve the ringing tone of an orin amid a tranquil stillness, we developed a non-contact slow governor that made virtually no noise. The key to the "silent" slow governor is the wings around the rotor that produce resistance caused by viscosity of the air. This rotor turns at a constant speed at which the reactive force of the main spring and the viscous resistance caused by the air are balanced.

By applying anti-reflection coating on both sides (front and back) of the sapphire windshield of the wristwatch, we prevent degradation of visibility, color tone and contrast of the dial and hand due to reflection. However, in achieving this coating, there were some problems, especially on the front side coating of the windshield. In this thesis, we will introduce what we have done to solve this problem.

SPRING DRIVE Cal.7R the world was heralded, and it was commercialized in December, 1999. Cal.7R is electron speed control style mechanical watch which raised the time accuracy taking the mainspring as a power by electronic speed control. ^<1)>We report necessary winding-up lock mechanism and stopping hand movement mechanism in Cal.7R development.

In autumn this year, visiting Dr. George Daniels and some other watch and clock makers in England, author found all of them were trying to develop the historical grasshopper escapement, besides the main purpose of visit was a discussion with him about coaxial escapement. Then author has been awaken the whole of British horological interest was widely spread and related into the historical facts and researches as to John Harrison as so many columns had been in British Horological Journal. Even an event of "Evening of John Harrison" will be held this November. It would be due to a long and great history of horology of England. An explanation of grasshopper escapement mechanism is done, pointing out the merit of unnecessity of lubrication.

<p>  We report why we decided to study new concept of wearable product and chose to use active matrix EPD for it. After we examine consumer acceptability for the concept, we found out key word "story". We named the new wearable product "Smart Canvas" which band and head can be seen as one canvas and show a "story" on the EPD screen. We developed new software platform which has multiple display layer based on different unit of time to show rich story.</p>

筆者は約10年間,スイスWOSTEPと提携する時計学校で時計理論の講義を続けてきた.その中で一番奇異に感じることはスイスの指導する時計教育の中に,等時性理論のカリキュラムがほとんど含まれていないことである.反面,自分たちの教えるカリキュラムは等時性に重点を置く結果になった.学生たちはその辺に大変興味を持っている.それは時計の調整をしようとすればそれらが重要になるからであろう.なぜこのような違いが発生しているのか,この辺を考察してみた.

With the purpose of improving performance of lubricant at low temperature and unifying lubricants to be used, we made new synthetic lubricant for watch mechamism. In this paper, we selected ester oil among several kinds of synthetic oils. We found that ester, as base oil, was superior in performance at low temperature and cahracteristic of evaporation rate, which has three ester groups in one molecule synthesized with tri-methylopropane and alkyl acid. We defined that the viscosity of the above mentioned lubricant should be 15cSt to 1000cSt at its used temperature range(-30 to 80°C). We found by evaluating performance of watches that the consumption electric current and the voltage to start moving with the lubricant at the used temperature are both almost same as with the existing lubricants. We also found by evaluating durability by accelerating test that the performance of the train wheel movement for twenty years is almost same. From the above we can obtain the new lubricant for watches which is superior in performance at low temperature and which we can apply for every part in watches.

New type of self-generation watch(Eco-Drive Thermo)has been developed. Micro-thermoelectric generator set in this watch converts body heat to electric energy and drive this watch. Generator is consisted of 2,268 pairs of BiTe thermocouples in a square cm and has very high output-voltage of 0.8V/℃. From wearing experiments of this watch, average generation energy of 12μ W was estimated.

In designing the self-organization robot, we show the policy which solves the problems by miniaturizing the self-organization robot. And by miniaturizing the self-organization robot, it is possible that the robot number per unit product and composition degree of freedom increase. Therefore in this paper, transfer method for enabling the transfer between robots only in the deformation mechanism of the robot is proposed without using wheels and crawlers, transfer legs, etc. In addition, shape memory alloy actuator viewed as one of the microactuator with hope was adopted to the deformation mechanism of the robot. The robot makes shape change from the triangle to hexagonal by the shape memory alloy actuator. And, the robot was manufactured actually, and usefulness such as structure and mechanism was examined and was examined experimentally.
