This paper reports a case of "cognitive counseling" in which an undergraduate student received support and training for learning from a statistics textbook. She took a required introductory statistics course and had difficulty in understanding the textbook. The goal of the counseling sessions was to enhance her skills for understanding statistics textbooks and acquiring enough knowledge to pass the final examination. The support and training in the counseling sessions included the selection of learning topics, use of learning strategies, and understanding textbooks on her own. At the end of several sessions, she showed improvement in her skills in reading the statistics textbooks and she passed the final examination.

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate a possible scenario in the relationship between the author and reader in the digital era using Japanese mobile novels as a concrete example. With the ongoing debate over the increasing popularity of the digitization of books, an analysis of the phenomenon of mobile novels (keitai shosetsu) in Japan may help to broad our understanding of the future of book publications, and of the literature, in general, during this era of new media. The important changes occurring in the relationship between authors and readers are also investigated.

The School of Social Informatics at Aoyama Gakuin University has a course called PBL (Project-Based Learning), which is taught using an LMS (Learning Management System). However, difficulties are sometimes experienced in the course that sometimes inhibits the achievement of good results. One method to address potential problems is to encourage a sense of competition among the students. In addition, support is often necessary for the creation of cooperative relationships. Therefore, in 2014 we introduced a case management support system called Salesforce. The preliminary effects of Salesforce are presented in this study. The results revealed that instructors were able to respond more quickly to the students' questions. Furthermore, it was confirmed that competition among the students was greatly enhanced using the Salesforce system.

The East Japan great earthquake disaster occurred in March 2011. Information distribution using social media became one of the most important sources of information at the time. It was found that local governments throughout the whole country gave increased attention to social media. As a result, the utilization by local governments of social media significantly increased as it became a part of government policy. However, the concrete trend of this utilization of social media has not yet become clear. In this study, a questionnaire was distributed to 1,742 local governments throughout Japan from June to July of 2012. The name of the questionnaire was "an investigation of the variation of the actual situation of social media throughout the region." The results of the questionnaire are at first analyzed, and then the data are analyzed using an example of Facebook administered by the local government. In the analysis, Sagamihara city (Kanagawa Prefecture) and Kanazawa city (Ishikawa Prefecture) were chosen as the target cities. Using these two cities as a test case, a joint questionnaire was carried out. The overall results revealed a variation in the trend of social media within current local governments.
