Ethy1cellulose (EC) exhibits interesting behavior in the formation of liquid crystals. Early observations indicated that most cellulosics formed right-handed cholesteric structure. However, EC in chloroform and acetic acid (AA) solutions took left-handed cholesteric liquid crystals, whereas EC in dichloroacetic acid (DCA) solution had right-handed ones. In the present study, (phenylacetyl)ethylcellulose (PA-EC) was prepared by the reaction of phenylacetyl chloride with EC having a degree of ethyl substitution (DSEt) of 2.26 in N,N-dimethylacetamide solution using triethylamine as proton scavenger. Reactions were usually carried out at room temperature for one week, which provided a variety of phenylacetyl contents (degree of substitution of phenylacetyl (DSPa) = 0.02, 0.11, 0.32, and 0.43). The chloroform and AA solutions of PA-EC with DSPa = 0.32 displayed a right-handed cholesteric liquid crystalline phase, while the DCA solution showed a left-handed one.

We composed teaching material for education about information and communication technology using micro-robot which is the smallest soccer robot in the RoboCup soccer international competition. The feature of this material is that control programing for the micro-robot is clarified using Scrath which is produed by MIT Media Lab. However, since micro-robot is currently controlled by program in C++ language, we made translator system from Scratch code to C++ code using PHP language. In this paper, we report the reason why we come to think clarification of our teaching material is important and how to realize such clarification.

This paper aims to make clear the concept "universal"of Architecture in the Italian renaissance, through the architect/theorist Vincenzo Scamozzi in the 16th century Italy. In the 16th century, Italy pushed forward the universalization of the concepts that integrate each art. Yet, Scamozzi constituted a logic that puts Architecture in a high position and puts Painting/Sculpture in its subordinate position. In this logic, the concept that has an important role is "scienza". Architecture becomes a more excellent art than Painting/Sculpture, on the condition that it secures the inevitable relationship with the scienza. Scamozzi's architectural book "Idea della architettura universale" is the concept that was composed by the scienza. This means that "invenzione", "disegno", which have a deep relation with scienza, compose the concept "architettura universale", as scienza dose.

According to a recent report, the blood donation population has declined in Japan. We examined the measures required to improve blood donation participation among university students in Japan. The study subjects were classified into three groups based on their frequency of blood donation: "frequently," "no donation in the past year," and "unexperienced." Each group was subjected to different sets of interview questions, and the answers were analyzed using Cochran's Q test. The "frequent" blood donors tended to believe that "my blood is helpful for somebody." Conversely, the other two groups tended not to donate blood owing to busyness reasons. We identified that the number of blood donors can be increased by reducing the waiting time. In addition to this, increasing the number of bloodmobiles may be effective.

The word-formation is an important aspect of the word itself and one of the important research fields in supporting the lexical teaching. By analyzing the lexical structures of personal names, this paper intends to explore the general features of the word-formation in Japanese words and prove the relationship between the word- formation and etymology, and between the word- formation and semantic meaning so as to provide valuable suggestions in language applications. When reading the Ango Sakaguchi literature, you ofen meet with the words "absolute loneliness" or "nostalgia". It means the human's true character. After understanding the solitary of human's true character, Ango Sakaguchi addressed the Japanese by saying "to live" and "to degrade" who had fallen into thought confusion at during the war and the postwar period. He said that we should make a living according to human true character.

At 14:46 local time on March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake occurred off the coast of northeast Japan. It was one of the most powerful earthquakes to have hit Japan. The many hospitals which are located at Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate prefecture suffered damage from this Mega-earthquake. Forever, little is known about the damaged of hospital have not generally decreased in the last 20 years. In this paper, we used the following questionnaire to clarify the damage factor of a hospital. It was found that Medical disaster prevention product was a top priority.

Fumitaka Nishizawa (1915-1986), one of the leading architects in Japan, is known not only for his Modern architectural works as a "grandchild disciple" of Le Corbusier, but also for his exquisite survey drawings of Traditional Japanese architectures and gardens. This paper is to consider the background of his expression of plants and trees in his survey drawings. Nishizawa's early sketches published as the book "The Days in Philippines" and his unpublished notes to his collaborators were examined in this paper.

This paper describes a method to recognize a character handwritten in the air. This recognition method uses the motion direction instead of positions of the device. It also doesn't use the information of pen up and down. It selects and orders character candidates with DP (dynamic programming) matching. We prototyped an application software that recognize a character by using mouse movements. In this time, we made virtual key input motion for input method editor. We could edit a sentence by using handwritten gesture recognition.

Flow microreactors can provide a revolutionary change on organic synthesis, because of the following characteristic features derived from their small size and flow nature: 1) fast mixing, 2) temperature control, 3) highly strict control of reaction condition. By taking advantage of these feature, chemical reactions which are very difficult or impossible in flasks can be achieved in flow microreactors. We have applied this protocol to selective monobromination of 2,2'-bithiophene with N-bromosuccinimide. After various trials of controlling reaction conditions, the yield of the undesired di-brominated product (5,5'-dibromo-2,2'-bithiophene) could be reduced to 1−2%. The most important factor in the microflow system was the combination of the flow rate and the equivalent of N-bromosuccinimide. This article is described the details of the progress to achieve good selectivity.

In February, 2015, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan gave some universities a request for improving their educational content. The verb BE is often picked up as inappropriate content taught in university. However, to acquire how to use the verb BE correctly is difficult for Japanese learners of English, so this paper shows some causes which make it difficult for Japanese learners to use the verb BE correctly, and then shows a new method for Japanese learners to acquire the usage of the verb BE.

Liquid metal cooled reactors are currently one design option being considered as the next generation of power production by the Generation-IV international forum for the development of nuclear power plant designs. Currently, Russia, India, China, France, South Korea, and Japan are actively pursuing liquid metal cooled reactor concepts. The liquid metal coolants being considered for these designs are sodium, lead and lead-bismuth eutectic; these designs utilize reactive and toxic materials at temperatures up to 800℃for nuclear power plant operations. To simulate these systems with the actual coolant material requires a high level of safety systems. Therefore, a less toxic and less reactive liquid metal that can be used to simulate liquid metal cooled flows will allow for a greater number of investigations and experimentation of liquid metal flow with regards to the field of thermal hydraulics. Good candidates for a liquid metal experimental fluid are alloys from the indium-bismuth-tin system such as Field's metal, which by weight percent is 51% indium, 32.5% bismuth and 16.5% tin and possesses a melting temperature of 60℃. However, the thermodynamic properties of Field's metal and similar alloys in their liquid state are not well described in literature, especially for the temperature range for thermal hydraulic applications. Accurate knowledge of the thermodynamic properties of a coolant is essential for understanding the physical phenomena associated with the flow of fluids. This work experimentally measures the specific heat of the indium-bismuth-tin tertiary system and analyzes the results to determine if the thermodynamic properties of the system are desirable for experimental modeling applications.

"Since the year 2012, Budo was appointed to be a required subject in Junior high school in Japan. Nevertheless, without a right understanding on the actual purposes and the targets as a school subject which students learn, there would be little value as a result.We would take Kendo, Karate and Judo as a prominent example of Budo-sports, and we would show how to teach them to the students and to skill up. We wonder if there are skilled actual trainers (or coaches) and the enough facilities for the training of Budo in all over the country, that would be the key issues."

In the relationship to the direction of giving and accepting, both Japanese and Chinese have common and different points. So they were researched in 『Comparison of Japanese and Chinese about relationship's direction of giving and accepting』 . And at the centre of these points of difference what stands out is the changing of the direction of grace. The saying of「A helps B to do something 」 is normal and it has a patronizing sense but the condescending tone is absent in Chinese. On the other hand, in Japanese, in order not to belittle the person you are talking to and thus feel uncomfortable, you must change the direction of grace with the expressions about relationship of giving and accepting. To be certain, in 『Comparison of Japanese and Chinese about relationship's direction of giving and accepting』,the differences about the changing of the direction of grace were researched from the point of 「~(sa)se te mo ra u/i ta da ku」, and so they will be looked at later from otherpoints of view in this paper.
