I propose development of a hybrid flight system ‘Barone’, which is combined a balloon with a drone. Barone can be expected as a flight system that combines the advantages of both the stability of the balloon and the good operability of the drone. In addition, Barone can be applied not only as a new flight system, but also for short-term microgravity experiments, air launch to orbit, exploration of the planet with atmosphere. Particularly, Barone can be expected to play an important role in the life exploration on Mars.

In this report, woman global human capitals (WGHC) and woman global engineers and scientists (WGE&S) are grouped into several categories, and education and qualification required to be a variety of high-level global professionals and role of industry and economy focused education, among others, are discussed. It is generally said that women can relatively, easily play a leading and active role in professions such as medical doctors, lawyers, teachers and professors in Japan, as compared with the other professions, such as those at industry in Japan, with males occupying a majority of manegement and other high level key positions. Since the equal opportunity law was put in to effect in 1985 in Japan, opportunities for women professionals have been increasing in this age of global economy. Issues of WGHC and WGE&S are, therefore, discussed with situations in both Japan and overseas nations taken into account.

Recently, from the viewpoint that decreases the load to the global environment, the bio-plastics, which are derived from the reusable resources from the biomass, attract much attention as new polymeric materials instead of the polymers derived from exhaustible resources such as petroleum. Poly lactic acid (PLA) is considered to be one of the most promising bio-plastics because its strength and modulus are as high as that of the existing plastic, and it has also biodegradability. In this study, we investigated the effect of immersion in gasoline on mechanical properties of injection-molded PLA plates in the case of assuming that PLA will be applied to severe environment such as in contact with gasoline.

To prevent the wheel separation accidents, clarifying the influence of running condition on load of wheel bolts. In this paper, I investigated the stress of wheel bolts while the vehicle is moving. In the results, I confirmed that stress amplitude on left rear wheel bolts increased in the car trun to the right. Then the load of wheel bolts changed the pulsating bending load from the reversed bending load with loosing the wheel bolt.

Pulse detonation engine (PDE) performances were calculated. Simple relationships were derived for detonation, exhausting and ventilation to calculate the engine performances. Calculated Isp were about 20 km/s in subsonic flight and 5 km/s in supersonic flight, respectively. A spaceship with PDE and a rocket engine was conceptually designed, and its transportation performance was estimated with use of the extended Tsiolkovskii method. When the mass at take-off was 3,000 kg, 2,230 kg was carried to the altitude of 101 km.

Hummingbirds are the only species in birds capable of performing continuous hovering flight. However, the precise aerodynamic force generating mechanisms, which should be associated with the dynamic wing-morphing, still remains unclear. In this study, targeting at hummingbird Amazilia amazilia, we aim at conducting a systematic analysis of flapping-wing kinematics and dynamic configuration of the wings during hovering flight. With use of a filming system consisting of four synchronized digital high-speed video cameras operating at 2000 frames per second, we recorded a sequence of hovering with sufficiently high resolution. With the video images, characteristic points on the right wing of the hummingbird were tracked. Additionally, we conducted the flapping experiment to evaluate the effect of the wing-morphing on lift generation. Two time-variant wing deformation parameters were obtained: wing surface area and spanwise twist. We found that the wing area shows a variation up to 20% within a wingbeat cycle. Our results indicate that the time variation of the angles between adjacent primary feather shafts is the main cause of the variation of the wing area. The wing twist shows asymmetric variation during upstroke and downstroke, and this asymmetry is prominent for the inboard part of the wing. The hummingbird-inspired flapper experiment shows it is generating sufficient aerodynamic force to support the original hummingbirds weight based on which it is modeled.

This paper describes measures to suppress the temperature increase inside tunnels on urban roads. The Yamate Tunnel is a long tunnel extending a total of 18km in the center of Tokyo. The tunnel interior temperature has increased during the summer. Motorcycle riders have complained about the heat inside the tunnel. So we investigated and analyzed the causes of the temperature increase. To suppress the increase of the temperature, we installed mist spraying equipment inside the tunnel. This system successfully cooled the inside of the tunnel. Furthermore, we compared the calculated value to the measured value of the temperature in the tunnel.

Impingement jets are often used for cooling and heating of a surface or a body because a high heat transfer coefficient is obtained near the stagnation point of an impingement surface. For example, they are used for drying paper and fabrics, cooling gas turbine blades and electronic components(1). Recently, the usage of impingement jets can be predicted to be used in comparatively small spaces due to the miniaturization of devices. In these cases, the nozzle diameter, the flow rate, and the distance between the nozzle and the impingement plate are inevitably small.The purpose of this study is to clarify the flow and heat transfer characteristics when an impingement jet is applied in a narrow space. And now, when the heat transfer coefficients are measured by using the thin heated surface, a heat loss (qe) occurs in the in-plane direction of the heated surface due to heat conduction. Generally, this heat loss is often ignored at high Reynolds number (Re) and large diameter, because it is very small compared to the heat taken by the impingement jet. However, it may not be negligible in the case of a low Reynolds number and small diameter, because the heat taken by the impingement jet become relatively small.In this research, heat transfer characteristics using a circular impinging jet, which impinge on the heated plate, were investigated experimentally. The jet holes with the diameters D of 1, 3 and 5 mm were used. The values of H/D were from 2 to 6, where H is the distance between the nozzle exit and the impingement plate. The experiments were performed with the relatively low Reynolds number range of 250 ~ 2500. The surface temperature of the impingement plate was measured using an infrared camera, from which a heat loss (qe) in the in-plane direction and heat transfer coefficients were obtained. And the flow behavior of the jet was visualized by using a Laser Light Sheet(LLS)method. From the experiments, it was found that a heat loss (qe) needs to be considered in the case of a low Reynolds number and a small diameter.

Children with visual impairment and teachers of school for the children request new Raised-Line Drawing Kit for practical use in the field of education, because the existing drawing kit do not have sufficient performance to satisfy their various needs. In this paper, we reported that the development of the test model of our Tactile Drawing Pen using beeswax enable people with visual impairment to express and perceive their ideas more accurately. Additionally, we conducted two experiments for collecting the quantitative data to decide the basic specification guaranteeing the high usability for all age people with visual impairment including the children. The results showed that people with visual impairment felt that our device was easy to write when the pen pressure needed to release the inks was lower, and when the radius on the tip was larger. We determine that the recommended values are 50 gram-force. Furthermore, we determined that our Tactile Drawing Pen should equip mechanism to release inks which sizes are 2.0 mm height and 3.0 mm line width because the dimensions are appropriate to understand easily.

To achieve dynamic motion, such as jumping and running, generating large instantaneous force and decreasing impact force at the time of the landing are needed. However, when increasing the instantaneous force of actuators such as motors and hydraulic actuators, the weight of robot also tend to increase. Therefore, in this study, we focused on the variable viscoelastic element with the human muscle. In this paper, we developed a bipedal jumping robot with variable viscoelastic joints. In this robot, we adopted straight-fiber-type artificial muscle as a variable elastic element and the magnetorheological fluid (MR) brake as a variable viscous-friction element. Moreover, we conducted the bending and stretching operation experiment by this robot. In this experiment, we used the experimental parameters which were determined based on human bending and stretching operation. As a result, it was confirmed that this robot realized the bending and stretching operation.

This paper studies the separation flow reduction effect around NACA0015 airfoil using PSJA. We expect to reduce fluctuations of wake velocity by PWM control input applied to PSJA using DFC. This paper shows change of the lift force by the DFC in 5m/s main flow velocity and 15deg angle of attack. We attempted two modes by setting 4msec delay time of DFC. DFC positive mode set to ON the PWM signal when the input exceeds the threshold. DFC reverse mode set to ON the PWM signal when the input falls below the threshold. The experimental results show that the DFC result with a delay time of 4ms recovers lift force compared to without control of PSJA. In the both modes 4msec delay time, lift force is maintained without depending on the threshold at 1 second driving start. At the threshold 0.01 of the reverse mode, lift force is kept than the other threshold.

A linear reduced-order model of flow fields around an airfoil controlled by a plasma actuator is constructed based on experimental data. An alternating-current dielectric-barrier-discharge plasma actuator (ac-DBDPA) with random input was used to control flow fields around a NACA0015 airfoil at the chord Reynolds number of 6.4 × 104 in a wind tunnel testing and time-resolved data of the velocity fields were obtained by particle image velocimetry. Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) was employed to the data and the lower-dimensional description of them was obtained by using the first ten POD modes. Subsequently, the least-squares method was applied to the time history of the POD modes and the control input corresponding to the voltage amplitude of ac-DBDPA, and the coefficient matrix of the linear model was computed. The effects of the control input on the velocity fields reconstructed by the POD modes were investigated from the input matrix. It is shown that the velocity fields are not influenced much when the average value of the input is changed. On the other hand, they are sensitive to the input change. This result corresponds to the fact that the intermittent actuation is effective for the flow control by plasma actuators such as the burst-mode actuation or nanosecond-pulse-driven DBDPA.

In this paper, we propose a method to evaluate vehicle dynamics performance using trajectory tracking control of autopilot system. In recent years, high performance is required as a need for vehicle. In the past, vehicle dynamics performance evaluation often relied on human driving, making quantitative evaluation difficult. Therefore, the autopilot system that controls the steering and pedals in a closed loop control was used to minimize the variation. The vehicle dynamics performance was evaluated from the steering stability tests such as "Straight" and "Lane change".

This study investigates elastic behavior attributed to flexor digitorum tendon, using ultrasonographic images. The tendon is stretched during finger extension both by muscle strength and external forces applied to the fingertip. The elastic force exerted by the stretched tendon can work as torque for flexsion of the finger. Our experimental scheme includes measuring changed MP joint angle and each corresponding exerted fingertip force and displacement of image feature on flexor digitorum in the ultrasonographic image. The measurement results of the relationship among the exerted fingertip force, flexion angle and ultrasonographic images show that extension or displacement of the tendon is proportional to the flexion angle. In addition, a hysteresis of the fingertip force in stretching and shortening cycle can be observed. The hysteresis addressed in the related studies may be caused mainly by behavior of flexor digitorum muscles.

In general, bat swing analysis of baseball has adopted an optical motion capture system. It is possible to perform advanced operating analysis, but the system is not practical for large-scale, high cost and labor-consuming measurement. In this study, the trunk rotation movement in baseball bat swing was measured using a three-dimensional gyro sensor. Gyro sensor attached to the shoulder and waist, to measure the angular velocity of the vertical axis of the body. It was possible to show a rotation movement of the trunk during the bat swing similar to the DLT method. There was no significant correlation between the angular velocity of the trunk and swing speed. There was a significant positive correlation between the maximum angular velocity of the waist and maximum angular velocity of the shoulder (r = 0.66). As a result, it was to clarify the relationship of the swing speed and trunk rotation movement.

In this paper, numerical simulation for influenza infection was conducted using difference between air-flow course and virus-moving course. An alteration of radius of virus droplet changes sedimentation velocity. Then, the radius is affected by temperature and humidity around droplets. Flying virus drops may combine to other droplets. The repetition of the combination between droplets affects the sedimentation velocity of the droplet. Furthermore, using survival rate of influenza virus and human resistance, more realistic simulation is enabled. In this paper, the effectiveness of the method was shown carrying out infection simulation in an indoor environment.
