This paper introduces Landsat-8/ASTER/Sentinel-2 unified data global graphic user interface (GUI) developed by AIST. Users can freely browse, search, and download each band and true color image of global Landsat-8 data, global ASTER data, and true color image of global Sentinel-2 data.

A number of distinct signatures suspected of relating to Maya relics are observed over northern Yucatan Peninsula, serendipitously, during the geological study on JERS-1/SAR imagery. Among other things, ancient roadways (“sacbe”in indigenous language) are prominent being expressed as linear features, mostly with dark tones, throughout the whole region. Preliminary interpretation shows that these archaeological lineaments might also be indications of putative causeways, moats, walls and the like constructed by Maya people in the past. Another interesting patterns to be noted are numerous bright spots which suggest remains of human dwellings consisted of aggregation of huge mounds, courtyards, buildings including pyramids, from place to place. No verification with on-site ground check is practised yet ; however, the result of correlation with existing data seems to be encouraging to demonstrate the unique potentiality of JERS-1 imagery in radar archaeology, particularly, in terms of penetration through vegetative cover.

This paper introduces a method for colourizing the black and white (B/W) air photos by transferring colour information from another colour air photos that capture the same vegetations at the same season. Air photos taken by U.S. Air Force just after WWII were the first ones that cover whole Japan. As they are available only in B/W, the imagery has not been fully utilized.In our method, land cover was roughly categorized on a B/W image, whereas colour information for each category was taken from colour source images. Then colour information and original intensity information of the B/W image were combined in the HSI colour space.A questionnaire on photo interpretation experts revealed that the proposed method worked well for the photos. Additionally, rough categorization was enough for the method and the colourized photos might improve interpretation efficiency. The colourized images should be used for various purposes such as 3D landscape visualisation.

We have been provided confusion to some extent by several explanations of dissimilar meanings with respect to a scientif ical terminology.This paper shows a semantic problem concerning stochastic error term stood for “mean square error” (MSE) which does not exhibit only “root of mean of squared errors” in surveying and photogrammetry, but also indicates “average of squared errors” (or residuals) in statistics.Therefore, it is highly recommended even in surveying and photogrammetry that precision and accuracy illustrated a dispersion and an extent of measurements, respectively, should be utilized variance and MSE (square of “RMS” (root mean square) error) which can be obtained with sum of squared differences between measurements and most probable parameter (or true value), divided by number of observations, or redundancy of them. Similarly, definition of “MSE” in statistics makes variance added to squared bias (systematic error) .

GMSのCCTデータのパラメータ部と画像の一部のフォーマット変換とリスト処理の手法を開発した。<BR>このフォーマット変換は, データコントロールパラメータと記述文コントロールパラメータを用いて, バッファメモリ上で編集しながら処理を行うものである。<BR>このフォーマット変換を用いれば, 見出し, ページ, 項目番号, 記述文, データの位置, データの長さ, 副記述文を付加し文字型に変換されたパラメータ部のデータが得られる。また, 画像データ部の1ラインのダンプリストが10進数と16進数で得られる。<BR>この手法は, LANDSAT-MSS, LANDSAT-RBV, NOAAのCCTデータにも応用できる。<BR>LANDSAT-RBVとNOAAに関しては, すでにフォーマット変換を実行している。<BR>この変換手法を利用することによる利点はつぎのとおりである。<BR>1) パラメータ部のデータの内容が理解しやすくなる。<BR>2) 画像データのダンプリストにより, 画像のレベルを解析以前に知ることができる。<BR>3) 将来確立が予想される, リモートセンシングデータの統一的なデータ管理システムに応用できる。

The 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake brought about great numbers of landslides in the broad area of the eastern Iburi region, Hokkaido, especially Atsuma town. As emergency disaster response to the earthquake, PASCO Corporation carried out 1) taking oblique aerial photographs, 2) automatic extraction of landslides using optical satellite imagery (SPOT6), 3) detection of surface deformation with DInSAR analysis and 4) field surveys based on DInSAR analysis. This paper introduces the analysis of extraction utilizing optical satellite images with deep learning, which has been actively studied in recent years.

A fire destroyed the Shuri Castle, an icon of Okinawan culture in Japan on October 31, 2019. I launched a project with a group of people who gathered on social media aiming to collect photographs and videos of the castle along with the memories from the public, and to digitally reconstruct 3D models of the castle so that they can be used as alternative touristic resources. The data has been collected through a website, and more than 80,000 images from 35 countries and regions have been received from about 3,000 unique contributors, half of whom sent their memories.

The empirical model for estimating stand volume from LiDAR was developed by Takejima (2015). The study introduced new concept of Stock Ratio, the ratio of the stand volume in the spatial volume occupied by trees. The analysis of field data of over 6,000 trees revealed that Stock Ratio can be descripted by species and Hart-Becking index (Sr). However, the model had a problem for practical use, because of its adaptability since the base parameter was relying on the particular field data. To solve this problem, Stock Ratio simulation was adopted in this study. It was realized by calculating stem volume and spatial volume from virtual tree model. As a result, the generalized stand volume estimation functions were established. Functions are v={0.0270e(-0.2140×Sr)+0.00217}V (Sugi : Cryptomeria Japonica stand) and v={0.0226e(-0.2485×Sr)+0.00207}V (Hinoki : Chamaecyparis Obutsusa stand) where v as stand volumes, V as spatial volume calculated from LiDAR data. With the use of these functions, the stand volume of Sugi and Hinoki can be appropriately estimated without field data, which was essential in conventional methods.

A discovery of the buried Egyptian remains has been made by using satellite SAR data. L-band (HH) signal of SIR-C (Shuttle imaging Radar Mission-C), which was very similar to the characteristics of the existing Egyptian pyramids, was detected on a hilltop of Saqqara where nothing has been reported so far. As the result of the ground truth, some artificial lime stone blocks and significant fragments were found. The area is situated approximately 200m west of the pyramid of Merenre. This is a preliminary report of the study for satellite SAR application in Egypt.

The purpose of this report is to observe the internal structure of old scluptures and to measure the sizes of the nails used inside, the analytical X-ray photogrammetry utilized in this report has been studied for about 24 years. At first, the relationship between the target of X-ray tube and the object and the relationship between the target of X-ray tube and the projected point on the X-ray film were discussed. Next, the relationship between the density of X-ray film and the thickness of the wood, the voltage, the electric current and the exposure time were investigated. From the analogy between the analytical photogrammetry and analytical X-ray photogrammetry, the algorithm of the analytical X-ray photogrammetry were derived. In this report, the application of analytical X-ray photgrammetry on the wooden Buddist such as AMIDA, JUNI-SHINSHO and BISHAMONTEN, FUDOMYOO etc. were investigated. And the merits of the analytical X-ray photogrammetry are described.
