画像の領域分割などのクラスタリング問題でしばしば用いられるK平均アルゴリズムは, 簡単な原理に基づき有効な結果を与えることが多いが, 初期値依存性があるため適切な初期値を与えなければ, クラスタリング結果に大きな影響を与えることがある.本論文では, 適切な初期値配置法を検討し, 繰り返し処理を行いながら適応的により良いクラスタを形成するクラスタリングアルゴリズムを提案する.提案法を動領域分割手法に適用した結果, 初期値による影響が少ないロバストなクラスタリング手法であることが確認できた.

Tracking objects at a distance is a problem in wide area surveillance. This paper introduces a realtime active vision system that can track a moving object from 1 to 200 meters. This visual servo system is mainly structured with three mechanical freedoms: pan, tilt and zoom. An eagle eye mechanism is proposed to obtain a wide field of view and high resolution on the target. A fusion scheme has also been developed that combines the results of the three separate zoom cameras to detect and track remote targets. A high performance pan-tilt unit and an algorithm of high frequency motor control are proposed to achieve smooth tracking. The experiments of tracking a person walking outdoors and indoors have been carried out. The results show that this system is valid for tracking in a wide area.

Fuzzy clustering has been developed as an effective way of searching for a video by using a query or by browsing a video database. Each video in the database is segmented into shots by fuzzy clustering on the basis of the coarse color composition of frames. The type of shot boundaries, i.e., whether the change is discontinuous (called a cut boundary) or continuous (such as fade and wipe), can be detected by variation in the membership values at the boundary.Every video is summarized by a set of representative images of its shots. Fuzzy clustering is also used for searching for a target video by browsing a video database. In this search, representative images of shots are displayed and one of them is selected if it is the target video. The display region is narrowed successively by tracing hierarchical fuzzy clusters of shots. Additionally, the color correlogram of a video retrieved by querying shot images is shown to be superior to that retrieved according to a histogram.

SIGGRAPH2001で, Hertzmannらにより発表された, イメージアナロジーという画像変換法のノンフォトリアリスティックレンダリングへの応用を支援するための見本画像の作成法として, エッジを保存する平滑化フィルタの1種であるモードフィルタを利用する手法を提案する.イメージアナロジーでは, 見本画像として元の写真と絵画画像の両方が必要であるが, 絵画画像しかない場合に, それにモードフィルタをかけたものが擬似的な元の写真として使えることを例示する.

We studied the degree of visual fatigue in subjects watching HDTV stereoscopic images. The images used as visual stimuli contained only absolute, with no relative, parallax. The examination of visual fatigue was carried out with a five-grade subjective evaluation test and measurements of the accommodation response after watching the images for one hour. We found that when they were displayed within the corresponding range of depth of focus and remained static in the depth direction, the degree of visual fatigue was almost the same as that induced by watching the images displayed on the screen. However, visual fatigue was clearly induced, when they were displayed outside the corresponding range. Moreover, even if they were displayed within the corresponding range, visual fatigue was induced if they were moved in depth according to a step pulse function.
