This report introduces the feature and the technology trends of rubber cables for power generation plants and the transmission and distribution of electricity. In nuclear power plants, the radiation resistant ethylene-propylene rubber cable is used and requested longer service life, 60-80 years, for the purpose of plant life extension. In wind power plants, high voltage cable is used and required superior low temperature distortion resistance.The cables in photovoltaic power module demand the weather resistance, especially ultra-violet resistance. Halogen-free polyolefin and ethylene-propylene rubber are used. In the field of the transmission and distribution of electricity, rubber block joint is used to connect power cables, which utilizes the rubber elasticity. Ethylene-propylene rubber and silicone rubber are used in this application and it is requested to achieve both high dielectric breakdown strength, good workability which means cold shrinkable property around –40 °C, and relatively low cost.

Gas permeability of high polymer is important as a physical property in the gas barrier evaluation of vehicle tires and some fuel hoses from the viewpoint of energy-loss. The precise measurement of permeability rate of oxygen and steam is recently required in the field of organic EL display and fuel cell.This review describes the well-known mechanism of the gas permeability in the elastomers and the classification of gas transmission rate measuring methods as standard testing methods. The relationships between gas permeability and manufacturing process factors are also introduced. By using L18 orthogonal array, the results allow not only specifying effective factors and levels but also optimizing those for gas barrier property. Among the eight factors examined, primary factor of gas permeability is found to be the type of polymer, followed by the shape of inorganic filler, while the crosslink density of vulcanized rubber is not so influential.

We succeeded in developing the highly porous Cellulose Nanofiber nonwoven fabrics sheet, CNF sheet, composed of cellulose nanofibers (average fiber diameter: ranging of 30- 400 nm). CNF sheet has multilayered structure constituted of network plane of nanofibers over at least 50 layer. Therefore, with increasing in weight of CNF sheet, the pore size becomes to decrease and have the narrower pore size distribution. CNF sheet is corresponding to a heat resistant material (usable up to 200 °C, showing no glass transition temperature, low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE): below 10 ppm/K as the CTE value between room temperature and 200 °C), and has very small pore size (maximum pore size: ranging of 0.06-2 micro meters), furthermore, has very large surface area (specific surface area by B.E.T. method: 7-100 m2/g). These unique features of CNF sheet would lead to the applications in wide industrial field, such as functional filter, substrate material for a low CTE hybrid film and for a medical use.

The plant pulp consists of a cellulose nanofiber or a cellulose microfibril bundle. Since nanofibers are bundles of semi-crystalline extended cellulose chains, their thermal expansion is as low as that of quartz whilst their strength is five times that of steel. Recently, due to the risk of depletion of oil reserves and global environmental concern, the extraction of cellulose nanofibers and their utilizations has gained increasing attention. This review summarizes the research works on the production of nanofibers from plant resources and their application in polymer composites.

Recent trends of underfill resin for portable device were reviewed. In recent years, almost everyone in many countries has at least one or more portable devices such as mobile phone, smart-phone, and portable game consoles. Since these devices are often used under extremely severe condition for various purposes, they are required to have resistibility toward variety of physical and environmental stress. Underfill is one of the effective solutions to protect portable devices from troubles caused by these stresses. The requirements for physical and chemical properties of underfill resins and recent technologies used are described.

天然ゴム (NR) 及びイソプレンゴム (IR) の純ゴム硫黄架橋体を作製し, 溶剤抽出により精製を行った. この架橋体に空気中, 室温でγ線を照射 (0-20Mrad) して劣化した試料を引張試験, 膨潤試験, 全反射赤外吸収スペクトルなどにより検討した. その結果, (1) NR架橋体, IR架橋体ともに, 数 Mrad のγ線照射により引張強さ (<i>T<sub>B</sub></i>) は著しく低下した. (2) <i>T<sub>B</sub></i>の低下は, 応力-ひずみ曲線の変化から, 照射によって伸長結晶化が起こりにくくなったためである. (3) 20Mrad までの照射量では, 中変形領域における応力, 例えば50%伸長時の応力 (<i>M</i><sub>50</sub>) の変化は顕著ではなく, 硬さと網目鎖濃度の変化も小さかった. (4)モノスルフィドとポリスルフィドの架橋構造の違いは, <i>M</i><sub>50</sub>の照射による変化挙動に認められたが, その差は大きいとはいえない. (5)以上の結果から, シス-1, 4-ポリイソプレンは照射により, 分解と架橋反応がほぼ同程度に起こるものと考えられる, などが明らかとなった. 伸長結晶化阻害は, 照射により構造の乱れが起こったためと考えられるが, その詳細についてはいまだ結論できなかった.

Polymeric materials have the advantage of light weight, ease of manufacturing and feasibility for various shapes, compared with porcelain one. Application of the polymeric materials to outdoor electrical insulating apparatuses has achieved to reduce the size, weight of the equipments, and maintenance cost of the electrical power lines. Especially, silicone rubber can show good weatherability and hydrophobicity, so that it has been widely applied to polymeric insulators for outdoor use. Polymeric insulators are gaining market share as a result of improved tolerance to pollution, ease of handling and installation. In this article, the state of research and development of the polymeric insulators and their application for the electrical power lines are provided.

エチレン•プロピレン•シエン3元共重合ゴム(EPDM)と天然ゴムとの共加硫特性を改善するためにEPDMをプロム化し(約24%). 天然ゴムとのプレンドの特性についてEPDMのものと比較し検討を行った. プロム化EPDM(BEPDM)単独の試料についてみると示差走査熱量計(DSC)より求めたTgおよひ動的粘弾性試験機(DMA)より求めた貯蔵弾性率, tanδの温度分散曲線はBEPDMとEPDMの両者てほぼ同じ結果を示し, 2.4%のプロム化によるEPDMの性質の変化は小さいことがわかった. 一方. 昇温に伴う重量減が5%に達する温度についてみるとBEPDMてはEPDMに比へ, 約15°C高温側にノフトし, 耐熱性がEPDMより上昇することかわかった. さらに, 同一条件ての加硫速度についてはEPDMより著しく増大した. 天然ゴムとのフレント物については, EPDMのプロム化に伴う加硫速度の増加て天然ゴムとの共加硫性が改良され. 引張り物性が増大した.<br>また. ゴム/ゴム接着性に対するプロム化の効果も大きく. BEPDMかEPDMに対して. 約2倍高くなった結果が得られた. さらに, プレント物の破断面を走査型電子顕微鏡(SEM)て観察した結果. NR/BEPDMのプレント物の破断面がNR/EPDMのプレント物より荒く, 共加硫性の向上が認められた.

Continuous open cell in a Porous Macromolecule authors have developed is a porous material obtained by extracting the open cell forming agent with hot water. As polymeric materials, since it is selected from thermoplastic elastomers, thermoplastic resins, and rubbers, the basic characteristics of the selected polymeric material is expressed. Moreover, because it uses the extraction method as porous technology it becomes continuous open cell, thus it is breathable porous material. <br>In this paper, the characteristics and production methods and applications, will be introduced while using our example.

The rubber products degrade during use by various factors such as oxygen, ozone, heat, light and dynamic fatigue. Degradation factors are various depending on the conditions of use, and there are a lot of degradation factors besides the above-mentioned. The reagents that are added to prevent degradation are called antioxidants. Degradation causes the phenomena such as physical properties degradation, hardening, softening and cracking, and then rubber products cannot maintain the function of the products. To prevent degradation by these various factors and to maintain the product-life cycle for a long term, addition of antioxidants is very important.

Backgrind tape (BG tape) is widely used in semiconductor process to protect wafer surface as well as to prevent wafer crack. Among those tapes employed in industries, BG tape can be characterized by high precision in thickness and clean design by controlling both foreign and residual contaminations. BG tape is composed of base film and adhesive covered by release film. For base film, EVA, PET or other layered materials have been used. Some special materials were also reported for well contacting bumpy wafer surface. Adhesive is designed with acrylate in general, and material design should be cared to reduce residue. UV-curable adhesive is also used. In the technology that wafer thickness becomes thinner, BG tape will compete with other materials. Design of BG tape should be further investigated for handling ultra-thin wafer with facility.

Dicing tapes have been used for a Si wafer singulation at the IC packaging manufacturing. During the singulation, dicing tapes need to hold dies with high adhesion simultaneously with an easy die separation from the dicing tapes with low adhesion after singulation to prevent dies from breaking. In order to meet the requirements mentioned above, UV-curable dicing tapes, which is reviewed here, have been realized with both die-holding and easy-separation functions which are able to be controlled, independently. Moreover, with the popularity of the mobile devices, a packaging density and a die thickness tend to increase and decrease, respectively. For a reduction of thin wafer breaking, new thin-wafer processes, including a laser-dicing process, have been proposed and dicing tapes are required to have additional properties to realize those thin wafer processes. In this paper, the technical trend of dicing tapes for the new applications is presented.

加硫ゴムの日光劣化に対する保護剤として, 化学的にも比較的安定で, かつゴムに容易に溶解するイソ•プロピル•ザントゲン酸ニツケルを選んで実験し, 次の如き結果を得た. 普通硫黄加硫の場合には網状および一定方向の亀裂の発生を同時におくらせること, 過加硫になると硫化ニツケルができて加硫ゴムが変色し, 劣化防止効果も減少することがわかった. イソ•プロピル•ザントゲン酸ニツケルの耐熱老化性はあまり期待できなかった.<br>テトラメチル•チウラム•ジサルファイドによる無硫黄加硫においては劣化防止作用は認められなかった. 加硫のみについていえば, イソ•プロピル•ザントゲン酸ニツケルは硫黄加硫において, 相当強力な促進作用を有し老化防止剤と同時に二次促進剤として利用することができる.

The tire wear tests were performed for rubber compounds with different physical properties on the different road surface temperature using the same vehicle. It is clear that the temperature dependence of wear resistance were different for the different rubber compounds. The wear resistance W is found to be scaled using the fracture energy F (MJ/m3) and the storage modulus E* (MPa) for the rubber compound as follows:W = c(Fa / E*b)(a, b, c=the constant number)Temperature dependence of wear resistance is considered to be caused by the different contribution of F and E* values.

Fractionation technique is very significant for the polymer analysis. Several methods were proposed, SEC(Size Exclusion Chromatography), FFF(Field Flow Fractionation), Electrophoresis, Hydrodynamic Chromatography, MTF (Molecular Topology Fractionation), and so on. In these methods SEC is the most general. This report reviews about concepts of separation mechanism, sources of analytical error, detectors, and analysis examples of SEC.
