Two males of the parasitic calliphorid fly Melinda itoi Kano 1962 were obtained from the slug, Incilaria bilineata (Benson) in April, 1976. The slug was one of those which were collected on March 25,1976 in the cracks of the bark of an old Ume-tree (Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc.) growing beside the brook of a hilly village (Ohyagi, Moroyama-cho, Saitama) and kept alive in our laboratory at 25℃ from that time on. The movement of the maggots in the slug body was recognized three days after collection. Two days after that, they came out of the slug and pupated on the bottom of the glass container. After 12 days (April 11), the adult flies appeared. So far as we know, this is the first case of the parasitic fly emerged from the slug in Japan.

The distribution of larvae of Hirosia iyoensis was surveyed at the forest floor along a small branch of the Oyabe River of Toyama Prefecture. A total of 129H. iyoensis larvae was collected from leaf litter and soil at six different stations within 200m of the blood-sucking sites (a wide space opened at the main course of the Oyabe River) for H. iyoensis. Most of the larvae were collected within an 80m area of the blood-sucking sites. A total of 102 larvae was also collected at four stations with different altitudes (5,25,50 and 75m above the surface of the stream). The number of larvae collected tend to decrease in accordance with the elevation. This survey suggested that the breeding-places of larvae of H. iyoensis were the forest floor near the bloodsucking site of adults.

The tabanid fauna of Okushiri Island, Hokkaido, Japan, was surveyed by collecting female adults with a mosquito-net trap baited with dry ice and by digging larvae and pupae with hand shovels, on August 6 and 7,1983. A total of 544 female adults of 9 species belonging to 3 genera and 39 immatures of 3 species of Tabanus were collected. Tabanus nipponicus, T. chrysurus and T. trigeminus were ubiquitous and predominant. The faunal make-up of this island with a considerable abundance of anautogenous tabanid population markedly differs from that of Rishiri and Rebun Islands. The influence of the livestock farming for the establishment of the tabanid fauna of this island was discussed.

Three cases of human myiasis due to two species of Cordylobia were reported. In case 1,the patient was a 35 year old Japanese woman who had been in West Cameroun in 1979. A mass attended with a severe pain was found in the right upper-eyelid. Two maggots taken out from the lesion were identified as the third-stage lervae of Cordylobia rodhaini Gedoelst, 1909. In cases 2 and 3,the patients were the siblings, a Japanese boy aged 6 and a Japanese girl aged 2,who had been in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire in August 1982. The masses attended with a severe pain were found in the fore-head and shoulder of the boy and in the back of the head of the girl. Six maggots were taken out from the lesions and they were identified as the third-stage larvae of Cordylobia anthropophaga (Blanchard, 1893).
