Tapered seal is widely applied to hold lubricating oil inside the clearance at the ends of fluid film bearing utilized in precise machines such as a spindle motor of HDD system. This study aims to analyze theoretically the fundamental working mechanism of tapered seal. Applying the analysis on meniscus of fluid surface due to the surface tension cooperating with the results of computational fluid dynamics for velocities and pressure fields under the axisymmetric and steady-state condition, the mechanism of the sealing ability of the tapered seal is clarified, and an index value which represents the sealing capacity of a tapered seal is introduced. The effects of some design and working parameters, such as the taper angle of the sleeve and the initial fluid volume, on the sealing capacity are discussed through the index value. The role of the barrier film coating on the sleeve surface to the sealing capacity is also studied theoretically.

近年の量子ビーム分析技術の発展と拡張に伴い,実作動環境下での分析,すなわち「オペランド(Operando)分析」へのニーズが高まりつつある.本稿では,その中でもX線および中性子線を用いた機械的な動的環境下でのオペランド分析に焦点を当て,その装置設計や得られた結果について紹介する.

理学療法学教育において臨床実習は重要な位置づけにある. しかし, その方法論は古くから変化しておらず, 現代の教育に必ずしも適当であるとはいえない. 今回, その課題について, 研究会を設立し検討した. その結果, 「関わること」の重要性が浮かび上がり, いかにして関われるのかを明確にする必要が示唆された. 研究会では人に関わる以前に自らに関わり, それを基盤に他者と関われると考えた. それは言語的コミュニケーションのみならず, 身体的コミュニケーションの重要性を前提としている. 関わりについてケア, クリティシズム, アンガージュマンなどのキーワードを使用し説明を加えた. 最終的に言語的・身体的コミュニケーションの経験を自らが解釈し, それを言語化できるような学習プロセスの経過(思考し表現すること)が必要であると結論づけた. 臨床実習は自己, 他者への関わりを理解し, 経験するプロセスなのである.

<p>Surface texturing is attracting much attention especially in the tribology field because for the effect improving the lubrication properties. However, most of studies on surface texturing conduced in the past focused the lubrication properties under a static load, and there are almost no papers on the dynamic characteristics of textured surfaces under a squeezing condition. From these backgrounds, the purpose of this research is to grasp the oil film behaviour on the textured surface under vertical vibration that simulates repeating squeeze motion. The oil film behavior under squeezing motion was observed by means of optical interferometry with two-color light. The experiment showed that the oil film shape in the contact circle under squeezing motion changed due to the existence of microdimples. Particularly, when the glass surface with 500 nm-depth microdimples was used, the oil film became thicker and the contact area became smaller than that when the non-textured surface was used.</p>

Ball bearings on the main shaft of rocket engine turbopumps which supply cryogenic propellants to the main combustion chamber are critical elements of the entire propulsion system of a rocket. A self-lubricating ball bearing with a retainer made of glass-cloth-polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) laminate has been used in turbopumps developed in Japan. In the operation of the turbopump, the bearing heat generation is possible to cause sudden temperature rises of bearing elements which finally result in bearing seizure. Therefore, it is important to predict the accurate bearing heat generation under various operating conditions. In this research, the bearing heat generation operated in cryogenic hydrogen was experimentally investigated under the various operating conditions where the rotational speed and the bearing coolant condition were changed. In addition, the bearing heat generation was compared with that theoretically predicted on a numerical model of mechanical losses. It was finally clarified that the bearing heat generation is influenced dominantly by the friction loss on balls and the drag loss on an inner race.
