Our daily task of shaving is discussed in this article. Shaving touch, which is quite a vague notion and involves many factors, is very difficult to treat quantitatively. The writer, who reported informer articles a new method to measure bevel angle of razor blades, investigates the relationship between the actual shaving touch and the physical quantities such as top edge radius, top edge angle, paper-or string-cutting value and so on. The factors which dominate shaving touch are classified into three groups: physical factors, physiological factors and pre-shaving treatments. “Pulling” effect in shaving is desired to be possibly small, which means that the top edge radius of blade should be small. “Planning” effect is also very important in actual shaving. If the top edge angle is large, the “planning” is diminished and the shaving touch to the skin is mild. But if the top edge angle is too large, the touch to the skin is slack and we can not get satisfaction in such a shave. “Stropping”effect of shaving was found by the writer in this investigation: the edge which had been deteriorated artificially by repeated paper cutting tests was found sharpened after actual shaving. The rough-hone angle is not an important factor in shaving touch. Concerning the holder of blade, the shaving angle is of much importance. Sound effect, resistant feeling to the hand, sensation of pain by “pulling” and distribution of string cutting value are also discussed in this article.
