Oil-lubricated sterntube system is generally used for merchant ships while water-lubricated sterntube system is generally used for passenger ships. Recently, the water-lubricated sterntube system is attracting keen interest from the viewpoint of oil-pollution prevention. Conventional seal used in water-lubricated sterntube system has a drawback in that the sealing ring cannot be easily replaced with a spare. This is a problem in large ships for which on-schedule voyage is strongly required. This paper introduces a new water-lubricated sterntube seal in which the sealing ring can be switched to a spare ring with just a simple valve operation.

Banking of human placental/umbilical cord blood (PCB) requires volume reduction for prevention of hemolysis-related side effects and cost-effective storage. We collected, separated, and cryopreserved PCB following the New York Blood Center's protocol, and obtained PCB with an mean volume of 70.0±28.1ml (n=100). Red cells were sedimented by addition of 1% hydroxyethyl starch with gentle centrifugation. Recovery of nucleated cells (NC) and colonyforming units (CFU) was 82.9±13.7% and 90.4±18.9%, respectively (n=25). Volume of the NC suspension was reduced to 20ml by centrifugation and 5ml of 50% dimethylsulfoxide and 5% Dextran 40 solution were added slowly. The frozen cells were washed with a solution containing 10% Dextran 40 and 5% human serum albumin. NC and CFU recovery was 88.8±7.13% and 81.2±20.3%, respectively (n=18). No aggregation of cells occurred after the washing procedure.We studied the effect of storage after collection, cell separation, and cryopreservation under various conditions. Results suggested that collected PCB should be prestored at 25°C for less than 24 hours, and that HES of moleculer weight 400, 000 should be used at the concentration of 1-4% for efficient cell separation. Further, the cryoprotective solution could maintain the number of NCs, CFUs, and CD34+ cells under slow cooling.
臨床応用可能な開鼻声の定量的評価法を確立するために、口蓋裂あるいは先天性鼻咽腔閉鎖不全症による開鼻声患者18例と健常人17例の発声した母音/i/にケプストラム分析を行い、得られたスペクトルエンベロ-プに1/3オクタ-ブ分析を加え、開鼻声の周波数特性を求めた。次に20人の聴取者による開鼻声の聴覚心理実験を行い、得られた主観評価量と周波数特性を表わす物理量の関連を検討したところ次の結果が得られた。1 健常音声と比較した開鼻声のスペクトルエンベロ-プの特徴は第1、第2フォルマント間のレベルの上昇と、第2、第3フォルマントを含む帯域のレベルの低下であった。2 開鼻声の聴覚心理実験を行い得られた5段階評価値を因子分析したところ、開鼻声を表現する2次元心理空間上に2つの因子が存在し、第1因子は全聴取者に共通した聴覚心理上の因子であり、第2因子は聴取者間の個人差を表わす因子であると考えられた。そのうち第1因子を主観評価量とした。3 開鼻声の主観評価量とスペクトルエンベロ-プの1/3オクタ-ブ分析から得られた物理量の相関を検討したところ、第1フォルマントの含まれる帯域から2/3〜4/3オクタ-ブ帯域の平均レベル(物理評価量L1)および9/3〜11/3オクタ-ブの帯域の平均レベル(物理評価量L2)と主観評価量に高い相関が認められた。

The purpose of this study is to investigate the uses of the space satellite data for disaster management. The prototype of the volcanic disaster information system was constructed by using a Google Earth^<TM> Mapping Service, which has excellent performance of processing the image and altitude data.
