This research is aimed to propose the method of calculating COP of the residential air conditioner, and to clarify an energy conservation performance and the best operation method. Because the information on the performance of residential air conditioners that we can obtain is usually limited, we propose the calculation method of COP which can be predicted from general catalog information. First, the change in the refrigerating cycle by the outside temperature and the amount of the heat supply was analyzed. Next, the characteristic of COP change was clarified by the theoretic refrigerating cycle COP. Finally, we led the prediction method of COP based on the similarity of the relation between power consumption and the heat supply.

This paper describes a study on Japanese public bathhouses (Sento) in Kumamoto City as an example of a regional city. This research was conducted using field surveys and hearings from owners of public bathhouses and local government.Kumamoto City had 141 public bathhouses in 1976, but only 19 in 2006. The layouts of these public bathhouses changed along with advances in facilities and the owners' desire to increase the number of visitors. However, the numbers of public bathhouse owners and visitors are decreasing, and the age of both is increasing. Changes in society influence the function of public bathhouses.

In this paper, we evaluated the COP of room air-conditioners with variable capacity compressor. The evaluation method and process to lead functions of electricity consumption and cooling / heating output were shown. Coefficients to lead approximate functions of input and output were shown as well. Next, we compared the COP calculated by functions mentioned above and the COP measured in another test institution. As a result, it was confirmed that evaluation COP was identical with measurement COP. It developed that annual electricity consumption of variable-capacity air-conditioners was less than that of popular air-conditioners, because the COP at partial load was high.

In this research, the experiments to measure the actual performance of room air-conditioners were performed to make appropriate evaluation method of them. Results are as follows:1. Partial load rates of air-conditioners are very low; especially in the heating use there was a machine whose partial load rates are less than 10 % in 95% of the entire operating hours.2. COP in actual usage situation was lower than JIS experiment result in most of machines. This tendency was conspicuously appeared in heating.3. The evaluation approach that can evaluate the actual performance at the heating period and at the low partial load appropriately should be considered.

This paper reports the results of a field survey on the indoor thermal environment in two terraced houses in Johor Bahru city, Malaysia. The survey was carried out in a single-story house and a two-story house. The results show that opening windows not only affects ventilation but also controls the influence of the outside thermal environment. Moreover, on the double-story house, the upper floor has the function of thermal insulation for the ground floor.

ルームエアコンの消費エネルギー量を正確に推定するため、これまで困難であった除霜運転の発生条件と除霜時のエネルギー消費効率の算出法を明らかにした。ルームエアコンの使用時に生じる室内温度分布を改善するため、サーキュレーターを用いた場合の効果を明らかにし、省エネルギー性を評価した。
