Variations in Monguor orthography mainly arise from (1) how to assign a sound, (2) presence or absence of a space, (3) combination of (1) and (2), (4) choice of allomorph, (5) presence or absence of a segment,. The main purpose of this paper is to pick up all the possible variations which occur in two dictionaries and seven books. A wrong assignment of a sound may ambiguate grammatical functions in a sentence and a space may cause a problem, if it corresponds to a lower rather than a higher morpheme boundary. In general, the authors of the books have a tendency to spell as they like ; even a single book written only by one author has a lot of variations in spelling.
