航空機は大型化,高性能化が進むと同時に従来の操縦桿・操縦輪に代わり,サイドスティックによる操縦装置が,また飛行計器はグラスコックピットと呼ばれる大型CRTを用いた電子式飛行計器等が導入されるなどコックピットの近代化が進められてきている。さらに飛行計器の表示デバイスもCRTから液晶フラット・パネル・ディスプレイ(以下液晶ディスプレイ(LCD)と略す)にと変りつつある。航空機用液晶ディスプレイは3インチ型TCAS指示計が実用化されており,5~8インチ型が開発段階にあり,実用化の時期も間近の感がある。これら新しい表示デバイスを実機に搭載するにあたってはその前段階として飛行シミュレータによる機能,性能の評価が必須であり,実機搭載に十分な機能,性能を確認する必要がある。今回,日本航空電子工業(株)との共同研究で8インチ型液晶ディスプレイ(PFD,DMD)の機能,性能および表示フォーマットに関して,飛行シミュレータによる評価試験を実施した。その結果,ハードウエアについては従来のCRTの性能と同等あるいはそれ以上の性能を有していること,DMDディスプレイについては使用目的に対応した表示機能とすることにより,その有効性があることが確認できた。

Background: The circulating level of KL-6/MUC1 is a sensitive marker for various interstitial lung diseases. Previous case reports have suggested that KL-6 may also be increased in some patients with drug induced pneumonitis. A study was undertaken to determine whether serum KL-6 could be a marker for particular types of drug induced pneumonitis. Methods: The findings of high resolution computed tomographic (HRCT) chest scans of 30 patients with drug induced pneumonitis were reviewed separately by two independent observers. The pneumonitis was classified into four predominant patterns: widespread bilateral consolidation (diffuse alveolar damage, DAD; n=7), fibrosis with or without consolidation (chronic interstitial pneumonia, CIP; n=11), consolidation without fibrosis (bronchiolitis obliterans organising pneumonia or eosinophilic pneumonia, BOOP/EP; n=8), and diffuse ground glass opacities without fibrosis (hypersensitivity pneumonitis, HP; n=4). Serum KL-6 levels were measured by a sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results: The overall sensitivity of serum KL-6 in detecting drug induced lung disease was 53.3%, which was lower than its sensitivity in detecting other interstitial lung diseases. However, the KL-6 level was increased in most patients with a DAD or CIP pattern (16/18; 88.9%) and was closely correlated with their clinical course. In contrast, serum KL-6 levels were within the normal range in all patients with a BOOP/EP or HP pattern. Conclusions: Particular patterns detected by HRCT scanning, such as DAD and CIP but not the BOOP/EP or HP patterns, are associated with increased circulating KL-6 levels in drug induced pneumonitis. Serum KL-6 levels may reflect the clinical activity of the particular disorders.

Objective The Japanese Respiratory Society (JRS) last revised the guidelines for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in adults in 2005. These guidelines proposed new criteria (A-DROP) to assess the severity of pneumonia and to differentiate between typical bacterial pneumonia and atypical pneumonia. The goal of the present study was to evaluate the utility of the A-DROP criteria for these described purposes. Methods An observational survey was conducted between July 2006 and March 2007, and patients with CAP were prospectively surveyed using consecutive enrollment methods. Patients In total, 1,875 patients from 200 medical facilities throughout Japan were analyzed. Results The JRS 2005 A-DROP system was a good indicator of mortality in the patient population, and these results were significantly correlated with the Pneumonia Severity Index (PSI) of the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA). Among the various factors characterized, 'SpO2 of 90% or less (PaO2 of 60 Torr or less)' was the strongest predictor of mortality. In terms of the differential diagnosis between typical bacterial and atypical pneumonia, five of six JRS 2005 items were strongly and significantly correlated with a diagnosis of atypical pneumonia. Conclusion The JRS 2005 A-DROP system was accurate and clinically useful for the assessment of the severity of pneumonia and for the differentiation between typical bacterial pneumonia and atypical pneumonia.

The Colletotrichum lagenarium PKS1 gene was expressed in the heterologous fungal host, Aspergillus oryzae, under the starch-inducible α-amylase promoter to identify the direct product of polyketide synthase (PKS) encoded by the PKS1 gene. The main compound produced by an A.oryzae transformant was isolated and characterized to be 1,3,6,8-tetrahydroxynaphthalene (T4HN) as its tetraacetate. Since the PKS1 gene was cloned from C.lagenarium to complement the nonmelanizing albinio mutant, T4HN was assumed to be an initial biosynthetic intermediate, and thus the product of the PKS reaction, but had not been isolated from the fungus. The production of T4HN by the PKS1 transformant unambiguously identified the gene to encode a PKS of pentaketide T4HN. In addition, tetraketide orsellinic acid and pentaketide isocoumarin were isolated, the latter being derived from a pentaketide monocyclic carboxylic acid, as by-products of the PKS1 PKS reaction. Production of the pentaketide carboxylic acid provided insights into the mechanism for the PKS1 polyketide synthase reaction to form T4HN.
