This paper provides new knowledge on the geographic distribution, habitat preference and identification of Littoraria species on the tidal flats of mainland Japan. Littoraria ardouniana is first recorded from Kyushu and Honshu islands. Other mainland species include L. intermedia and L. sinensis, which have been frequently confused with each other in previous literature. The color of the kidney is used here as a new taxonomic character for the genus to distinguish the latter two taxa. A few juveniles of L. scabra have been collected from the Kii Peninsula in Honshu, but they presumably represent incidental occurrences of this tropical planktotrophic species. At the mouth of Honjo River in southern Kyushu, L. ardouniana, L. intermedia and L. sinensis abundantly co-occur on rocks and concrete walls in the upper littoral zone, while the first species is also found on reeds and tree branches in the supralittoral zone.

1 0 0 0 大阪市立自然史博物館所蔵"木村蒹葭堂貝石標本"中のカタマイマイ類について

本誌の6巻3号には,江戸時代の貝類コレクションである"木村蒹葭堂(きむらけんかどう)の標本の発見"についての報告が簡単になされている(小出,1970)。この木村蒹葭堂貝石標本は数奇な経路をたどった後,大阪市立自然史博物館の所蔵となって現在も大切に保管されている(大阪市立自然史博物館,1982;湊,1983)。その標本のうち貝類については梶山(1982),金子・梶山(1982)によって報告された。それによると腹足類(巻貝)73科249種,掘足類1科1種,二枚貝類38科141種,頭足類:1科2種,多板類1科1種,総計394種の海産,陸産,淡水産貝類が含まれている。この全容は,同館のホームページで容易に見ることができる(http://www.mus-nh.city.osaka.jp/collection/kenkado/)。標本の大半は日本近海産であるが,そのうち南方に分布する種,あるいはヨーロッパに分布する種(例えば,北海や地中海地方に分布し,日本に産しないモミジソデAporrhais pespelecani)があってその構成には興味がつきない。陸産貝類では関西地方に広く分布するヤマタニシ,ヤマグルマ,ツムガタギセル,ニッポンマイマイ,オオケマイマイ,ナミマイマイがみられるが,特に注目されるものは小笠原諸島産のカタマイマイ類(Mandarina)である。これらの貝類について,梶山(1982)は"標本の特異性"としてモミジソデの入手経路について考察したが,カタマイマイ類については詳述しなかった。前述のホームページでこのカタマイマイと同定されている写真をみた筆者の一人,湊は,これは小笠原諸島父島に分布する真のカタマイマイMandarina mandarina (Sowerby,1839)のタイプ標本(Gray&Sowerby,1839;黒住,1995;千葉,2004c,2005)とは趣を異にしていることに気づいた。そこで,我々は2006年10月14日に大阪市立自然史博物館でこれらの標本を調査させていただいた。本稿はその調査結果の報告である。

Intertidal and subtidal limpet fauna in Oga Peninsula, northern part of Sea of Japan was investigated. It is characterized by predominance of temperate and warm temperate species under the influence of the Tsushima Warm Current. The poor occurrence of cold-water elements in spite of relatively high latitude of the area under study exhibits a noticeable contrast to the subarctic fauna of northern Pacific coast of Honshu. It is also revealed that warm temperate species are restricted to south of Boso Peninsula on the Pacific side and Oga Peninsula in the Sea of Japan.
