A novel sputtering method using an electron-cyclotron-resonance (ECR) microwave plasma was used to perform reactive sputter-deposition of Ni-Zn ferrite thin films. Ni-Zn spinel ferrite thin films with preferential orientation of (400) and relatively low coercivity of 15 Oe were obtained at a high deposition rate of 14 nm/min. and at temperatures lower than 200 ℃. To achieve this high deposition rate, the configuration of the ECR sputtering apparatus and processing parameters such as the microwave input power, target voltage, and oxygen partial pressure were carefully optimized. Reactive ECR sputtering is one of the most suitable methods for preparation of ferrite thin films applicable to magnetic devices such as MMICs, isolators and circulators.

This paper describes how the launch velocity of a solenoid-type electromagnetic launcher (EML) was simulated by combining the finite element method (FEM) with electric circuit and equation of motion, in order to improve the launch velocity of a projectile. The system constitution, the specifications of the projectile and solenoid coil, and the magnetizing curve of the carbon steel projectile are introduced, and methods for calculating the exciting current and launch velocity are derived. The inductance and the exciting current of the solenoid coil, the thrust, and the launch velocity of the projectile are simulatied. The simulation results for the dependence of the exciting current and the launch velocity on the time, and dependence of the launch velocity on the settled position are shown, and compared with the measured values. The calculation errors of the exciting current and the launch velocity with respect to the measured results are 3%, and 5%, respectively. These results confirm the feasibility of the simulation method.

This paper describes the effect of the solenoid dimensions in an electromagnetic launcher on the height of projection. The height of projection is calculated by combining the circuit equation and the equation of motion. The magnetic force is carried by the finite element method. The calculation errors of the height of projection are respectively 5.5%. In conditions where the charging voltage V=68V and capacity C=3.66mF (input power W=8.46J), the height of projection of a solenoid with an outer radius r_0=19mm and length l=22mm reaches a maximum.

This paper describes a robust design for a capacitance-drive-type linear electromagnetic solenoid (LES) using a quality engineering method and an exclusive dynamic analysis simulator. Reducing the variation in the performance significant by restrains the rise time of the current in the electromagnetic coil. In addition, the current should be kept above a specified level for a certain period. For this purpose, it is important to increase the inductance of the electromagnetic coil. In other words, it is necessary to increase the winding diameter and reduce the number of turns in order to reduce the variation in the performance. The validity of this robust design has been verified by experiments with actual solenoids. Consequently, it provides a high yield ratio.

Recently high-resolution magnetic domain observation has been strongly required in both scientific and technological fields, because of the rapidly growing interest in the physics of nano-structured magnetic materials, the increasing recording density of conventional magnetic storage devices, and the advent of nano-scale magnetic and spin-electronic devices. In this respect, the spin-polarized scanning electron microscope (spin SEM) is a very useful instrument. It uses the phenomenon that the spin-polarization vector of secondary electrons emitted from ferromagnetic material is antiparallel to the magnetization vector at the point in the material from which the secondary electrons originate. It has several advantages such as high spatial resolution, no limitation on sample thickness and fiatness, magnetization information independent of the sample surface topography, and quantitative analysis of the magnetization vectors in three dimensions. In this review article, the principles and structure of spin SEM are briefiy explained, and data obtained with various spin SEMs are presented.

The fundamental swimming properties of spiral-type magnetic micro-machines were investigated in detail by constructing four micro-machines with differnt structures. These micro-machines are able to swim in various liquids with kinematic viscosities ranging from 1.37 to 1000mm^2/s. This result suggests that the micro-machines have potential medical uses. In particular, they can swim against the stream in a liquid whose the velocity is comparable to the that of venous blood.

Demand for ferrite EM-absorbers is going to increase, particularly in the field of EMC (electro-magnetic compatibility) technology. They are used for anechoic chambers, for example, and to prevent TV ghosting,forged echos in ships' rader signals, and EM-wave leakage from various electric devices. The fundamental principle for the construction of a ferrite EM-wave absorber is based on the idea of a "magnetic resistive sheet" backed with a conductive plate. However, various types of ferrite absorber that depart from this principle have been developed recently. For instance, double-layered absorbers, consisting of carbon and ferrite materials, and grid ferrite absorbers are widely used for anechoic chambers. EM-wave absorber consisting of a concrete panel and a ferrite plate, or of a concrete panel containing ferrite particles to prevent TV ghosting, have been developed as materials for building walls. These ferrite materials include, sintered soft ferrite, rubber ferrite, plastic ferrite, and by-product ferrite. This paper first describes the fundamental principle of a ferrite absorber's constraction and reviews trends in research on ferrite EM-wave absorbers. In response to recent broad EMC technology trends in EM-absorbers, simple methods for improving and changing the frequency characteristics of ferrite absorbers are introduced, such as the use of magnetized ferrite, ferrite combined with other materials, and ferrite with small holes.

Recently, medical actuators of various kinds have been reported. We have particularly reported actuators for colon endoscope navigation. Magnetic actuators have the unique feature that they can be moved wirelessly, using external magnetic fields. The magnetic actuator consists of a permanent magnet and a spiral structure. When a rotational magnetic field is applied, the actuator rotates and moves without wired connection. The actuator therefore has a potential use for colon endoscope navigation. In this paper, we show some results compared with other navigation systems.

Application of a magnetic actuator to a capsule endoscope is proposed. Capsule-type magnetic actuators were fabricated and their motion properties were investigated in a silicone tube and in the intestine of a pig. The dummy capsule is 11mm in diameter and 40mm in length. This magnetic actuator is composed of a permanent magnet inside the dummy capsule and spiral structures outside it. The permanent magnet is magnetized in the direction of the diameter. When a rotational magnetic field is applied, the magnetic actuator rotates and moves wirelessly. The velocity of capsules with top spirals was examined in a silicone tube. In addition, a motion test was conducted in the intestine of a pig. The actuator can pass through the small and the large intestines over distances of 450mm and 400mm, respectively, in less than 150s. The capsule can pass out of the bag-shaped section of the large intestine. This result shows that the actuator has the potential to be used in the guidance system of a capsule endoscope.

The output voltage of an eddy current displacement sensor depends on the quality factor Q=ωL/R of the coil. Therefore, impedance analysis of the coil is important for output voltage analysis. Theoretical analysis of coils has been performed by C. V. Dodd, A. Reatti, and others. However, the quality factor of a coil cannot be calculated by using their theory. This paper presents theoretical, numerical, and experimental analyses of a coil for an eddy current displacement sensor. The impedance characteristics are analyzed by combining three theories : Dodd's theory, Reatti's theory, and the finite element method (FEM). As a result, the calculated value of the quality factor using the technique of complementing Dodd's theory with FEM is found to be accurate within seven percent. This technique is effective from the viewpoints of calculation time and accuracy. The calculation times of the three methods are also discussed in this paper.

IT社会の進展に伴い,GHz帯で良好な特性を持つ軟磁性薄膜への要求が高まっています.例えばRF集積化インダクタ等のように,高透磁率で低損失のもの,あるいは,電磁雑音対策用として高損失な材料です.いずれの場合も,材料特性の評価基準となる超高周波帯域での複素透磁率の測定が必須です.当社ではこれらの要求に応える9GHzまでの透磁率測定を可能な装置を製品化しました.PMM-9G1は幅広い分野の磁性材料開発に活用して頂けます.

携帯電子機器の急速な高速度化・小型化とそれに伴う電子回路の高集積化により,半導体部品等から発生する高周波伝導ノイズを,ノイズ発生源である半導体素子内部あるいはその近傍で抑制する技術が望まれています.我々はフェライトめっき法により得られるNiZnフェライト薄膜を用いたGHz伝導ノイズ抑制体(バスタフェリックス_[○!R])を開発しました.Fig.1に示すように,従来の金属粉とポリマーからなる複合磁性シート(厚さ50μm)に比べ約1/15の厚さ(31μm)で同等以上の性能を発揮するので,携帯電話,ノートパソコン、デジタルカメラのようなデジタル電子機器の輻射ノイズ対策、及び内部干渉・誤動作の防止に最適です.

Co-γFe_2O_3 longitudinal magnetic recording media obtained by annealing CoO-Fe_3O_4 were prepared on NiO underlayer. The coercivity HC was varied. with the Co content, namely, the atomic ratio of Co/Fe in Co-γFe_2O_3, and the oxygen partial pressure in deposition of Co-O-Fe_3O_4. The H_c of the media with Co/Fe=4 at% was 2000-3500 Oe, 1.3-3.6 times higher than that of Co-γFe_2O_3/NiO media without NiO underlayer. The grain size of Co-γFe_2O_3 became smaller with decreasing the thickness. The read/write characteristics of the media with no overcoat were evaluated in contact recording. Co-γFe_2O_3 media on NiO had higher D_<50> and lower medium noise than those of the media without NiO underlayer. kywe>Co-γFe_2O_3 / NiO underlayer / coercivity / longitudinal magnetic recording medium / R/W characteristic / contact recording</kywe>

Torque was detected in a steel shaft with a ring-sharped surface by using a magneto-impedance effect sensors whose heads were placed on the two edges of a gutter in the ring-shaped surface. The hysteresis removal was done utilizing two different shapes of the hysteresis of torque detection at the two egges. A large pulse current was a priori applied through the shaft to induce circumferential magnetic anisotropy in order to remove the magnetic poles at the gutter edge for zero torque.

高耐衝撃性腕時計(商品シリーズ名"The G")に、長波帯標準電波の時刻情報を受信し時刻を合わせる、いわゆる電波時計機能を付加する事を実現しました.電波受信用アンテナ鉄心材に従来のフェライトに替えて耐衝撃性に優れるアモルファス金属積層材を採用、アンテナケース構造にも耐衝撃を高める工夫を加え、アモルファス金属自体も特注材を使用し、金属のしなやかさによる耐衝撃性と、電波の受信特性の両立を図りました.日本国内及び米国での電波受信が可能です.

This paper introduces a interpolation Preisach model. The first step in analysis of the model is calculating a maximum of eight conditions of the Preisach diagram at the points of divided fields, which are located on both sides of the actual field changed in direction. The condition of the Preisach diagram is separated into plus or minus values by a step-shaped interface due to past magnetic history. Next, the magnetization corresponding to the actual fields is linearly interpolated using previously calculated values. Magnetic field analysis with the model becomes possible in the case of occurrence of an optional reversal field. The model is used for simple magnetic field analysis of a magnetic sample ring. The model's validity is confirmed by agreement between the analytical results and actual measurements.
