The present study describes improvement methods for indoor microbial contamination in urban public facilities. We investigated the effects of low concentration of hypochlorous acid water on influenza virus with the tissue culture infectious dose 50 (TCID-50) assay using Caco-II cells and hemagglutination test. And experiment of applying system reducing airborne microbe to a primary school is introduced. Experimental results showed the validity on improvement of both relative humidity and airborne bacteria and fungi. In addition bactericidal effects of low concentration of hypochlorous acid water against Legionella bacteria in hot spring water as well as in distilled water are demonstrated.

The field study for 134 days, concerning indoor environment quality and productivity of call-center workers, was conducted. Call data of total 13,169 workers was analyzed. The rate of response to calls was adopted as an index to evaluate the worker performance. Worker performance decreased by 2.1 % when the average indoor air temperature rose at 1.0℃. The possibility of the improving productivity under thermal comfortable environment was suggested.

The characteristic of gap for every specifications, such as a floor, a wall, a roof, an opening, etc. which constitutes structure skeleton in buildings of wood frame construction system, has been grasped quantitatively. Furthermore, a comparison with the result depended on survey of the airtight performance in buildings that have already been built was performed, and the validity of a measurement result and the extendibility to a real residence were examined.

In order to investigate the effects of extremely low humidity on human health, comfort and performance, subjective experiments were carried out at Technical University of Denmark. Sixty subjects were exposed in climate chambers for 5 hours, performing simulated office work. Four humidity conditions in clean air at 22℃ and 4 conditions in polluted air, 3 of which at constant absolute humidity, were imposed. It was found that 5 hours ofexposure to 15%RH or below in clean air or high air temperature in polluted air is sufficient for the mucous layer of the tear film to become measurably worse. Subjective reports of dry discomfort increased as humidity levels were reduced, although the level of discomfort was never more than mild even at 5%RH. A negative effect of low humidity was found on the performance. The observed increase in blink rate at lower levels of relative humidity may have progressively reduced the rate of visual data acquisition and lead the decreased performance of subjects.

Field survey on thermal environment and questionnaire survey were conducted over three seasons at three train stations, and thermal comfort was quantitatively evaluated. Moreover, usage patterns and passengers' attitude towards the station environment were investigated in order to comprehensively identify the thermal environment required for train stations. Environmental control of the entire station by air-conditioning would not be energy efficient due to its open structure, and task-ambient air-conditioning strategy is proposed.

It experimented about the decrease status which accompanies the heating of chlorine residuals. As for the result, the higher the water temperature became, the faster the decrease speed became. In the experiment in the still-standing condition which used a copper tube with 15 mm diameter, in case of equal to or more than 50 ℃ , it disappeared within about 1 hour.

HVAC system simulation programs in Japan looks having ceased its development due to unhappy bubble economy boost followed by its collapse during the late 1980s to 1990s. In this period international environment in this area was far different from Japan. The TRNSYS, HVACSIM+, DOE2, BLAST and then EnergyPlus have been constantly upgraded to meet the world needs for HVAC application and high-technological developments, in contrast to the Japanese state as represented by popular application of distributed packaged unit system. The present paper overviews the state of the art in HVAC simulation technology in Japan compared with international activity and gives alarms to Japanese HVAC engineers as well as those people who are responsible for policy making on energy, environment, science and technology and engineering philosophy.
