Imitative words are more extensively used in Japanese language than in any other language. This paper analyzes the imitative words used in “The Restaurant of Many Orders” written by Kenji Miyazawa. From the viewpoint of styles, imitation words can be classified into the following six styles-basic word repeated style, long sound added style, syllabic nasal added style, double consonant added style, “ri” added style, and others. Miyazawa often and skillfully uses imitative words in his juvenile stories in describing humans and nature. By using imitative words he effectively represents sounds, behaviors, and mental states.This paper shows the concrete examples of the imitative words used by Miyazawa and takes consideration of their effects.

It is said, that daikon was brought into Japan about 6000 years ago. Since then it has been very popular and has come to be served everywhere in Japan. It was cooked in various ways and sometimes used for rice. Today we do not eat daikon so much as before, because we have more than enough food in our country.But daikon is one of the most favorite and most frequently used vegetables in our daily cooking even now.A change was studied in use and cooping of daikon in some of the villages in Naganoken, Japan.

発表者は、文化庁の派遣事業で平成26 年度文化庁文化交流使として、ヨーロッパ7 か国(フランス、ドイツ、ポーランド、ハンガリー、イタリア、スロバキア、イギリス)で約2 か月間、日本の食文化を紹介する文化交流活動を行い、ならびに各国の学校給食や食農教育の取組み等について調査した。本研究の目的はヨーロッパ7か国の学校給食についてその特徴をまとめ、日本の学校給食や食育活動に資する資料を得ることである。 見学した学校給食の共通点としては、食堂で食事を行っており、小学校では低学年の次に高学年が食べる等、学齢順に時間帯をずらして食堂を利用していた。また、配膳は、職員が行っていた。学校給食の内容は、各国の食文化や現状を反映していた。

Since music compact disks appeared in 1982, their usefulness has become widely known and they have completely taken the place of LP records. Although music compact disks are sometimes used as teaching materials in music classes, selecting the music compact disk which is needed for students mostly depend on catalog booklets. Retrieving the information stored on music compact disks by catalog is neither up –to-date nor efficient and is sometimes a very cumbersome task for teachers.In this paper, we recommended information retrieval of music compact disks using personal computer communication. By connecting the personal computer to data bases which contain the information of music compact disks by telephone lines, music teachers can get necessary information more rapidly and more efficiently than by turning the pages of a catalog.

The present study investigated the stereotypes of the ideal male and female face shapes depicted in Japanese comics (manga) and their influence on body image. General trends of face shapes in male and female figures (n=1381) were analyzed in manga published during 2006-2008. In manga for female readers, both males and females have a thinner cheek-jaw silhouette, while in manga for male readers, they have a natural cheek-jaw silhouette. Moreover, compared with females’ face shapes of males depicted in all the manga categories have more variation of face shape. Interestingly, males in manga stories for adult female readers are depicted with the highest frequency of thin cheek-jaw silhouette. The meaning of the thinner cheek-jaw silhouette in manga is discussed.

Saku Carp which grows in clean and cold rivers is characterized by a firm body and a week odor. Saku Carp has been eaten throughout Nagano prefecture. In this study, characteristics of Saku Carp sashimi were measured for smell, taste and texture using an organoleptic test and instrumental analysis. For this study, a carp from Fukushima and a Saku Carp were compared. A sashimi piece of about 3 millimeters thickness was used in the organoleptic test. The organoleptic test was conducted by 41 junior college students and teachers evaluating appearance, taste and texture. A 3 millimeter thick piece of dorsal meat was used for the physical property measurement. The physical property measurement used a cylindrical plunger of a diameter of 3 millimeters using a creep meter (Yamaden RE-330005). In evaluations of appearance, the carp from Fukushima was more transparent and smooth than the Saku Carp. In an evaluation of taste, the umami of the Saku Carp was weaker than the carp from Fukushima. In an evaluation of odor, significant difference was not recognized. In the instrumental analysis, the Saku Carp was found to be more firm than the carp from Fukushima. This finding agrees with local opinion and advertising claims.

The effects of two kinds of raincoat with different materials on physiological parameters and clothing microclimate inside raincoat under simulated rain conditions were studied at ambient temperature of 30℃ and a relative humidity of 80% in five female participants, aged 19.6±0.5yrs. One kind of raincoat was made of nylon with coating and calendar finishing (A) and the other of the fabric laminated with nylon, polyurethane and knitted nylon with moisture permeable properties (B). After they took a rest for 15min, water was sprinkled at the rate of 5mm/h for 20min, followed by 15min recovery. The main results are summarized as follows: (1)Skin temperatures on the chest and back were lower under sprinkling in B than in A. (2) Clothing microclimate absolute humidities on the back were significantly lower in B than in A. (3) Comfort sensation was better in B than in A. The raincoat B made the chest and back skin temperatures and microclimate absolute humidities inside the raincoat lower. The present findings suggest that the raincoat materials are of importance in improving the comfort sensation by reduction of microclimate humidity and trunk skin temperatures.

Parasite collection of Dr. Yoshimasa Ozaki has been deposited in the Meguro Parasitological Museum (MPM), Tokyo. Information on the platyhelminth parasites (turbellarians, monogeneans, and digeneans) reported in Dr. Ozaki’s publications from 1923 to 1966 is assembled in a host-parasite list. The list includes: (1) for each parasite species, data adopted from corresponding publication(s), namely, the year(s) of publication(s), page number(s), figure number(s), table number(s), location(s), within the host(s), developmental stage(s), main field(s), of study, and locality(ies); (2) the holotype depository, if known; and (3) the MPM Collection Number(s) of the specimen(s) found in the collection. No note is given on taxonomy and nomenclature of host and parasite species. A bibliography, parasite-host index, and Japanese host name index are presented.

Recently, damage to agriculture and forestry businesses due to wild birds and beasts is a serious situation in the mid-mountain areas such as Nagano Prefecture. Every year approximately 20 billion yen of loss occurs in Japan. Management of wild birds and beasts based on scientific data is necessary. Recently, wild animals are being examined as a promising resource for local development. In this study, we compared the smell of venison and beef to consider how venison compared to edible meat. Next, we considered whether the smell was improved by immersing venison in some seasonings. Sensory evaluation of grilled venison and beef resulted in the venison having a strong raw and bloody odor. As a result of smell component analysis, the main cause of the smell was 2,3-butanedione (diacetyl) and hexanal. As a result of having inspected the venison meat immersed in various seasonings, milk was shown to prevent the most smells. As results, we were able to elucidate a part of the cause of the unpleasant odor of the venison and we were able to prevent unpleasant odor of the venison with milk.

Eating disorders are medical psychiatric and social problem among adolescent girls and young adult women. The severe situation surrounding the eating disorders is recognized in Japan, because the prevalence of the patients is probably increasing, and the onset is getting younger. However, medical resources are limited in the current Japanese health care system. Thus, the effective prevention is also necessary for the eating disorders as well as other life-style diseases. Nutrition education may be contributable to prevent the disordered eating behaviors. In this review, we introduced the prevention trials developed and performed in western countries and Japan to date, and discussed the possibility of nutritional education for contributing to the prevention of the eating disorders.

長寿県である長野県に居住している人々は、淡水魚、特に鯉を食している経験が高い。今回は上田市近郊の給食施設従事者について淡水魚の食習慣に関するアンケート調査を行った。その結果、「ウナギ」や「ニジマス」、「アユ」、「ワカサギ」、「鯉」などの養殖が盛んな淡水魚については知名度も豊富で食経験も高かったが、「ハヤ(ウグイ)」、「カジカ」と言った、いわゆる手に入りにくい魚については知名度及び食経験が低かった。一方、「ヤマメ」、「ハヤ」、「フナ」、「ドジョウ」などの淡水魚は年齢が下がるほど食べられていない傾向が認められた。「フナ」は上田市近郊の南東に位置する佐久地方でよく食べられているが、上田市近郊では徐々に食されなくなってきているという現状が示唆された。「鯉」の料理(調理方法)について認知されている主要なものは「鯉こく」、「あらい」、「甘露煮」、「うま煮」であった。「鯉」は「小学生以前」に「母親の手料理」によって好むと好まざるとにかかわらず正月や年とりなどの「行事」のごちそうとして摂取される背景が示唆された。しかし、「あらい」については年代が下がるにつれて食経験が下がっており、「鯉」を生に近い状態で食べるためその生臭さ、泥臭さや触感、小骨の多さから若年層では敬遠する傾向があると考えられた。
