常磐炭は非粘結性の黒色褐炭である故一般焚料に適し, 專ら熱源として用いられているまた一方工業的には煉炭の製造, 加圧式製塩工業, Koppers-Totzek微粉炭ガス化炉による合成ガスの製造などに利用されて多大の成果を牧めつつある。筆者はこれらの諸工業について詳細に説明するとともに今後の常磐炭の化学的利用として現地でルルギの高圧ガス化炉を用いて低品位炭のガス化を行い, 都市ガスあるいは有機合成ガスとして大都市への高圧輸送の構想を詳述すると共に常磐低品位炭活用対策委員会が立案した卒-東京間のガスの高圧輸送計画の概要およびその経済的考察を行つている。

ロケット推進剤としては化学エネルギ, 核エネルギおよび太陽エネルギを利用するものが考えられるが, 本報では主として化学エネルギによる推進剤について解説した。まず, ロケットの基本原理によれば大きな比推力を得るには燃焼生成物の温度が高く平均分子量がなるべく小さいことが要求される。このため燃料成分としてはH, Li, Be, Bなどの元素から成る化合物, 酸化剤としては0およびFの化合物が適している。この中, Beなどは資源酌ならびにその他の制約があるので, 現在の水準ではBの水素化物が注目されている。しかし, たとえばB10H14などはBの毒性が強いという欠点があるので, Bの水素化物の水素をアルキル基で置換したものが脚光を浴びることになろう。さらに本報で略衝推進剤の基本的性質, 分子量と温度の限界誰進剤とし腰求される液体ならびに固体推進剤の共通性質, 固体および液体推進剤の具体的な例などについて述べている。

The Ionic Semiconductor has been a polymeric semiconductor that contained with some rate earth metal oxides. This semiconductor was an equipment of environment conformity type, since the environmental loading such as power consumption was remarkably small, and it was man and beast harmless. Various solvents and/or atmosphere wre given powerful reduction effect (antioxidative effect) by the convenient and safety method with the semiconductor. In the solvent and/or atmosphere the new active species were generated with the action of this semiconductor. These active species were applied in following field; (1) the battery active reinforcement agents toward various secondary batteries, (2) the power storage system based on the regeneration secondary battery, (3) the cooking oil degradation prevention system toward deep fling manufacturing process, (4) refrigeration and/or thawing system toward keep of freshness of the food and/or selective accelerated ripening, and so on. The authors report the outline of practical application examples of environmental conformity type our products and/or our systems. In addition, it is reported in this lecture that heat exchange efficiency of refrigerant are able to be improved with this semiconductor and relation technologies. The improvement effect of heat exchange efficiency is applied to air-conditioner, refrigerator, and freezing chamber. As the result, large reduction of power consumption is manifested. The obtained practical field data that these reduction effect of power consumption and development of these power consumption reduction systems are reported in detail.

Energy environmental education is an important matter to establish a sustainable society. Technology innovations or social improvements must be supported by education to achieve the most performance. Numerical evaluation of people's behavior changes caused by education is important to analyze the effects of education and to improve educational methods. In this study the mothers were chosen as monitors for the behavior analyses. Monitor's significant behavior changes as power consumption reductions after the energy environmental workshop were obtained from the daily energy consumption data collection by themselves. The changes are analyzed numerically using the residuals of multi-regression analyses; the explanatory variables are weather data and activity time in the house of whole monitor families. The maximum percentage decrease of power consumption after workshop was 22%. In this study it is found that detailed data collections of lives make it possible to evaluate numerically the behavioral changes of the people.

Effects of delignification treatment on the enzymatic saccharification of grass biomass (rice straw and sugarcane bagasse) were investigated. The delignification treatment improved the efficiency of the enzymatic saccharification. The yields of glucose and xylose from the delignified rice straw by enzymatic saccharification at low cellulase loading (2 FPU/g-substrate) were 75 and 65 %, respectively. Furthermore, combining delignification and hot compressed water treatment at 140°C, the yields of glucose and xylose was increased to 95 and 80 %, respectively. On the other hand, the yields of glucose and xylose from the sugarcane bagasse combining delignification and hot compressed water treatment by enzymatic saccharification were 55 and 70 %, respectively. It is shown that the high cellulase loading (10 FPU/g-substrate) was needed for obtaining high monosugar yield from sugarcane bagasse.

In the past decade, much research has been focused on electroactive polymers (EAPs) as actuators. However, less well known is the fact that some of these materials have outstanding performance in the generator mode. Whereas polymer actuators convert electrical energy to mechanical energy, polymer generators convert mechanical energy to electrical energy. Many of the characteristics that make EAPs attractive as actuators also make them attractive as generators. Potential advantages include high energy output per unit mass, low cost, good coupling to many mechanical inputs, lightweight materials, and flexible design.We believe that given new capabilities enabled by EAPs, and the world's critical need for electrical power, that EAP power generation is an important focus area for research and development. Indeed, it is possible that EAP power generation could well exceed the importance of EAP actuators, itself an exciting technology area.

The purpose of this study is to improve accuracy of the renewable energy assessment in order to promote renewable energy utilization. We have a local renewable energy assessment in the local new energy vision by NEDO. But NEDO assessed potential of local renewable energy with different methods for different energies. Some of these assessments are not accurate enough to decide policy for promoting renewable energy. Therefore, the authors developed a new method of renewable energy assessment and improved the assessment more systematic and accurate by using GIS. The new method evaluates amount of renewable energy as frequency distribution and shows spatial distribution of renewable energy. The authors applied the new method to Unzen City in Nagasaki Prefecture as an example and showed availability of the new method. The result showed that Unzen City has practical potential of 45MWe for geothermal energy, 7.6 MWe for wind energy, 1.1MWe for solar energy and 1.7MWe for small-scale hydropower as a most probable value and that wind and geothermal energy are concentrated to the specific areas and hydropower and solar energy are distributed in whole Unzen City.
