It is frequently observed that Silerella vittata (KARSCH) plunders ants of the eggs, larvae and other things which are carried, and on this behaviour a short report was already given by Jo (1964). But this habit does not seem to be limited to S. vittata, for several salticid spiders (Menemerus confusus, Plexippus setipes, Evarcha albaria) were observed to show the same behaviour, though less frequently. In this report these observations, except for the case of S. vittata, are described in detail.

A small orb-web spider species, Gea subarmata Thorell 1890, was newly recorded from Japan. The previously known distribution of G. subarmata ranged from India to New Guinea, and its closest known habitat to Japan was in the Philippines. The specimen was collected at a resort hotel, and no other specimen could be found; therefore, it seemed that the species is not native, but rather introduced. The genus Gea was also newly recorded from Japan.

A new salticid species of the genus Ceriomura Simon 1901 is described herein as C. momilensis n. sp. found in the dry forest of the Córdoba department in northwestern Colombia. Photographs and illustrations of the diagnostic characters for both males and females and ecological comments are provided. In addition, a distribution map, and a key with all species of the genus Ceriomura are included.

A new species of Cyrtophora is described on the basis of specimens collected from Trang Province, Thailand, under the name of Cyrtophora sextuberculata n. sp. This species can be distinguished from other congeners by the elongated abdomen having three pairs of tubercles. The shape of epigyne of this species resembles that of C. crassipes (Rainbow 1897), but the abdomen of the latter has only a pair of dorsal tubercles and bifurcated posterior end. The male of the latter species is still unknown.

A new species of the spider genus Anyphaena (Araneae: Anyphaenidae), Anyphaena yoshitakei sp. nov., is described on the basis of specimens obtained from the Ryukyu Islands, Japan. The male palpal structure of this species is similar to those of males of A. taiwanensis and A. pugil, but this species can be distinguished by the lack of palpal femur spines. The female can be easily distinguished from females of Asian congeneric species by the shape of the longitudinal middle furrow of the epigyne.

Two new species of the genus Tegecoelotes are described from Chubu and Chugoku Districts, Honshu, Japan, under the names, Tegecoelotes chikunii n. sp. and Tegecoelotes hibaensis n. sp., respectively. Tegecoelotes chikunii found in Nagano and Gifu Prefectures is characterized by having extremely elongated femur and patella, short and bifurcate conductor, and extended tegulum in the male palp. Tegecoelotes hibaensis is distributed in Hiroshima, Okayama, Tottori and Shimane Prefectures, and is characterized by having elongated patella of the male palp and linguiform epigynal teeth in the female genitalia.

A new lycosid species, Hippasa babai, is described using the specimens from Yonagunijima Is., which can be distinguished from H. holmerae Thorell 1895 by short male papal tibia as well as broad and thick projection of epigynum.

Araneus mayumiae (Araneae: Araneidae) is newly recorded as a prey of Eopompilus internalis (Hymenoptera: Pompilidae). In the laboratory, the spider was alive in approximately two months after being stung by the wasp.

A new species of the genus Marpissa (Araneae: Salticidae), Marpissa mashibarai sp. nov., is described using specimens obtained from Yamaguchi and Tokyo Prefs., in Honshu Island, Japan. This species exhibits poorly marked sexual dimorphism in body size and coloration. Both sexes have the black median line on dorsum of abdomen, allowing us to distinguish it from the other congeneric species.

In 1942 Takakuwa and Takashima reported five specimens of Polyxenidae (Pselaphognatha, Diplopoda) which was collected by Mr. Toma at Shuri on Oki-nawa Island. They identified them as Monographis kraepelini, the species of which was established by Attems based on a specimen from Buitenzorg, Java. This record constitutes the first occurrence of Polyxenidae from the Japanese Islands. Soon after the Pacific war, Mr. Gamo who was a young graduate of the Middle School at that tine succeeded in finding the Polyxenidae on Enoshima Island in Kanagawa Prefecture where those tiny animals were creeping on rocks near the seashore. They are no doubt a species of Pselaphognatha and his finding attracted much attention among scientists and amateur entomologists which gradually lead to further discoveries frog various parts of Japan. Mr. Miyosi, the myriapodologist, considered these Japanese specimens as the fourth and new species of the Genus Monographis and subsequently named them as takakuwai and further a new subspecies nigricans was described, We propose here the third subspecies of M. takakuwai based on specimens collected at Kinnta, Tokyo:- Monographis takakuwai kinutensis Haga n. subsp. This new race is closely related to the typical takakuwai and nigricans but differs from them by having a different body length;colour of dorsal scuta, dor-sal side of head, ventral side of body and ambulatory legs, the setae of both dorsal and lateral parts; colour of dorsal streaks and caudal hair bundle; and number of barbed hooks in the caudal hair bundle.

Six species of the genus Haplodrassus (Gnaphosidae) are reported from Japan: H. pugnans (Simon 1880), H. cognatus (Westring 1861), H. kanenoi Kamura 1995, and three new species. It became clear that a Japanese species was incorrectly identified with Haplodrassus montanus Paik & Sohn 1984, and this species is described as new to science under the name of H. hatsushibai. Furthermore, two new species are described under the names of H. mayumiae and H. nojimai.

1992年の夏に親の産室より出てきたシラヒゲハエトリの2齢幼体を自然に近い条件下で飼育した結果, 雄4匹は翌年の7~8月に成体となったが, 1匹はその次の年の夏までかかって成体となった. 雌3匹も3年目の夏に成体となった. 雄の脱皮回数は5回, 雌のそれは6回であった.野外で採集した雌成体6匹を室内で飼育したところ大多数があしかけ3年生存し, この間の2年目までに4~5回受精卵を産んだが, 一部の個体は3年目にももう1回産卵した. 産卵数 (平均値±標準偏差) は, 第1回目の産卵が24.4±4.2, 第2回が17.8±2.1, 第3回が14.3±3.2, 第4回が12.2±5.5, 第5回が12.7±1.5であった. 一生における雌当りの総産卵数は71.7±18.6 (平均値±標準偏差) であった.

Spiders from Laos collected on expeditions from 2003 to 2008 are investigated. Currently, 89 spider species are recorded from Laos. Records of 51 species are included in the present paper. Four species are described for the first time: Argiope dang sp. n. (male, female) from Vang Vieng, Pseudopoda wang sp. n. (male, female) from Nam Khan valley, Olios muang sp. n. (male) from Ban Thathot, and Thelcticopis folia sp. n. (female) from Nam Khan valley. Sixteen species are recorded from Laos for the first time: Acusilas malaccensis Murphy & Murphy 1983, Agelena limbata Thorell 1897, Anepsion maritatum (O. Pickard-Cambridge 1877, Arachnura melanura Simon 1867, Araneus ellipticus (Tikader & Bal 1981), Argiope pulchella Thorell 1881, Eriovixia pseudocentrodes (Bösenberg & Strand 1906), Hersilia flagellifera Baehr & Baehr 1993, Menemerus bivittatus (Dufour 1831), Myrmarachne turriformis Badcock 1918, Oxyopes birmanicus Thorell 1887, Portia assamensis Wanless 1978, Tetragnatha ceylonica O. Pickard-Cambridge 1869, Tetragnatha lauta Yaginuma 1959, Tylorida striata (Thorell 1877), Tylorida ventralis (Thorell 1877). New observations on the biology of Eurychoera banna Zhang, Zhu & Song 2004 are documented. E. quadrimaculata Thorell 1897 is firstly recorded from Brunei. The following species are transferred from the genus Zygiella (Araneidae) to the genus Guizygiella (Tetragnathidae): Guizygiella indica (Tikader & Bal 1980) comb. nov., Guizygiella shivui (Patel & Reddy 1990) comb. nov. Illustrations are given for Argiope pulchella, A. ?versicolor, Eriovixia pseudocentrodes, Laoponia saetosa Platnick & Jägerger 2008, Orsinome vethi (Hasselt 1882), Oxyopes birmanicus, Tylorida ventralis, mostly showing intraspecific variation. A map of Laotian collecting localities is given. Orsinome vethi is recorded for Flores the first time, the record represents the eastern most distribution of this species.

1. 低張液処理押しつぶし法を真正蜘蛛類の11科17属18種に試みた結果, ほとんどの種で鮮明な染色 体像を得ることが出来, この方法は特に精原細胞分裂中期および還元分裂のさまざまな時期の染色体像 にすぐれていた.2. 低張液処理押しつぶし法により, オオヒメグモ Theridion tepidariorum 雄の22本の染色体がす べて小さい腕をもった端部動原体染色体であることがわかり, 2本のX染色体の一方と考えられる短い染色休が確認出来た.3. IMAI and KUBOTA の方法および酢酸解離空気乾燥法を原法に改良を加えて使用し, そのうち特に酢酸解離空気乾燥法は精原細胞分裂中期の染色体像にすぐれていた.4. IMAI and KUBOTA の方法および酢酸解離空気乾燥法に改良を加えた方法によるスライドに, SUMNER の BSG 法を用いた結果, オオヒメグモ, ササグモ Oxyopes sertalus の染色体の動原体付近が濃染し, この部分に構成的異質染色質が存在することがわかった.5. ササグモでは鮮明なC-バンドが得られたが, 1本のX染色体を含む21本のすべての染色体の動原体付近のみが濃染し, この部分のみに構成的異質染色質が存在することが示唆された.6. C-バンド法により性染色体を識別しようとする試みは成功しなかったが, オオヒメグモの染色体の一部には, 動原体付近以外の染色体末端が濃染するものがあるようであり, C-バンド法は真正蜘蛛類の核型の進化を考える上で, ある程度有効な方法であることが示唆された.

Phenology and biology of a total of 11 opilionid species were surveyed in and near Sapporo, Hokkaido. Most of the species showed an annual life cycle with overwintering in egg stage. Exceptions were Paraumbogrella pumilio having an annual cycle with adult hibernation and Sabacon makinoi with overwintering in both egg and juvenile stages. Compared to the phenological patterns of opilionid assemblage in Shikoku, southwestern Japan, those in Hokkaido were characterized by the absence of species with overwintering in juvenile stage. Among the species overwintering as eggs, species whose juveniles emerge earlier in spring tended to have longer juvenile period. Furthermore, in most of the species females reached adulthood earlier than males (protogyny). The protogyny seems to be rather prevalent in harvestmen of the superfamily Phalangioidea including Phalangiidae and Sclerosomatidae, although it has been only rarely documented in insects and other arachnids. Long reproductive period and multiple mating by females connected with presumable last sperm precedence might explain protogeny in harvestmen. Except for three soil-dwelling species (Sabacon makinoi, S. imamurai, and Paraumbogrella pumilio), all species changed their diurnal microhabitat preference from soil litter on the ground to upward herbaceous layer or tree trunks before they reach adulthood. Even in sexually reproducing species, adult sex ratios in the field often deviated from 1:1. Relative abundance between male and female changed also temporally, probably as a result of sexual difference in microhabitat preference and in reproductive behavior. Data on fecundity of some species and egg size of ten species were presented. Mucous egg sacs produced by two Sabacon species are described and illustrated for the first time. In addition, a new name Nelima suzukii is proposed for one of the two species of the genus Nelima, with some notes on their taxonomy and biology.

ユアギグモ1種 Patu sp. の網構造と造網過程を観察した. 網は完全な水平円網で体長にくらべて大きく, タテ糸が極めて多かった. このタテ糸の大部分は普通の円網種と同様な過程でヨコ糸まで張り終えた後に付加されたものであった. また, 造網の最後にタテ糸を緩めて付け直すというこしき部の修正を行った. このような特徴的な造網行動は, 本種が普通の円網種より派生したことを示し, さらに網構造と造網行動の類似性から, 本種がヨリメグモ科やコツブグモ科のクモと近縁であることを示唆している.

1. 産卵後一両日中にウヅキコモリグモの持っている卵嚢を取り除いたら, 3週間ほどで再び産卵した. 初回の産卵数は平均約50個, 次回のそれは約33個であった.<br>2. 卵嚢保持個体における肥大卵母細胞の大きさは, 産卵後約4週間で直径約184μに達したものもあったが, 排卵したものはなかった. 産卵後一両日中に卵嚢を除去したものでは, 産卵後約4週間で肥大卵母細胞は直径約476μに達したものがあり, 直径450μ以上のものは排卵されていた.<br>3. 卵核胞は卵細胞の成長とともに大きくなる. 直径約40μの卵細胞において直径約33μであるが, 排卵までに直径約67μに達する.<br>4. 卵黄核も卵細胞の成長とともにある程度大きくなる. 卵細胞の直径70-90μで, その直径平均約23μであるが, それ以後排卵までその大きさにとどまる.<br>5. 卵黄粒は卵細胞の直径約150μ以上で形成され, 卵細胞の成長とともに大きさを増す. 排卵時, 最大のものの直径約35μ, 産出卵において最大のものの直径約56μであった.<br>6. 卵巣には初回産卵後, なお平均150個ほどの卵緒を有する卵細胞が残されている. 卵嚢が除去されると, それらのうちあるものが急速に成長し成熟する.<br>7. 退化卵細胞は産卵直後には十数個あるも, 次第に吸収され, 3-4週間後にはほとんどなくなる.

On July 12 and 13, 1953, the writer collected three females of <i>Typopeltis stim-psonii</i> together with their egg-sacs at Ushibuka in Amakusa, Kyushu. The embry-onic development of this species was very similar to that of <i>Thelyphonus caudatus.</i> When the eggs were collected (presumedly about two weeks after oviposition) the germ disk formation was already advanced. Two days after the germ disk for. mation the abdominal process, which was identified by SCHIMKEWITSCH (1906) as primitive cumulus, appeared near the margin of the germ disk (Figs. 1, 2). Then the germ disk was transformed into a germ band, which was segmented by cros-sing of transverse grooves and the cephalic lobe, cheliceral segment, palpal segment, and four leg segments were formed (Fig. 3). The abdominal process cut out successively the abdominal segments forward and by this teloblastic growth the abdominal portion grew in length (Figs. 4-7). No abdominal appendages appeared at any stage. The lateral organs appeared within eight days after the germ disk formation (Fig. 5). Near the hatching the egg membranes were perfora. ted by the egg-teeth which developed at the base of the palps and of the legs (Fig. 8). By moving of the embryo air was drawn through the incisions made by the egg-teeth into the space between the embryo and the egg membrane. Hatching and the first ecdysis occurred simultaneously by the 18th day after the formation of the germ disk.
