Thelaxes suberi (Del Guercio, 1911), an oak-feeding aphid species, is native to Europe, the Mediterranean region, and Southwest Asia, but adventive in South Africa and Florida, USA. The present paper reports the first occurrence of T. suberi in Japan based on the specimens collected in Tokyo in 2017–2019. This adventive species is assumed to have become established in Japan. The colonies of T. suberi were observed on new shoots and leaves of the Japanese native plant, Quercus phillyraeoides and often attended by the Japanese native ants, Lasius japonicus and Pristomyrmex punctatus. These represent newly recorded biological associations for T. suberi, respectively. A Japanese common name is newly proposed for T. suberi: “Korukugashi-mitsu-aburamushi”, meaning cork oak thelaxid.

被験者への聞き取り調査から、日本から派遣された日本人教員を中心に教育が行なわれていたようで、被験者が教わった教員は日本人であったというケースが非常に多かったようである。授業では手話が多用されていたようであり、被験者の手話言語能力には確かなものがあった。その教育においては(書記)日本語の獲得が決して軽んじられていたということではないようである。一方、語彙比較研究に関しては、「同一」と「類似」を合わせた割合が、日台・日韓の各手話言語間で48-55%で、北朝鮮手話・韓国手話間では約56%と高かった。

2018年6月に静岡県で栽培されていたレタス(Lactuca sativa)に,生育遅延や萎凋といった生育不良症状が発生した.根の褐変部位から分離した糸状菌の同定と接種試験により,本症状はBerkeleyomyces rouxiaeによるレタス黒根病であることが明らかとなった.静岡県における本病の発生は本報告が初となる.

科学研究費の支給を受け、東アジアにおける手話言語、日本手話、台湾手話、韓国手話の語彙比較研究を行なった。データ収録のためのハイビジョンカメラ、データ分析のためのコンピューターなどの機器を購入したほか、データ収集のために韓国に2度訪問した。これらの研究の成果は、2007年刊行の書籍に論文を寄稿したほか、5回の学会発表(うち国際学会2回)で報告した。I compared the lexical items of sign languages in East Asia, namely, Japanese Sign Language, Taiwan Sign Language, and Korean Sign Language. Besides purchasing equipments including an HD camcorder for data recording and computers for data analysis, I visited Korea twice to collect data from native deaf signers of Korean Sign Language. An article appeared in a book published in 2007, and I presented five papers at conferences (three domestic and two international).

Damping-off of kale (Brassica oleracea L., Acephala group) was found in Iwata, Shizuoka, Japan in 2016. Isolates obtained from basal stems with typical symptoms were identified as Rhizoctonia solani AG-4 HG-I. Original symptoms were reproduced on healthy kale seedlings after inoculation with the isolates, and inoculated fungi were reisolated from the diseased plants. This is the first report of kale damping-off caused by R. solani in Japan; therefore, we refer to this new disease as “damping-off of kale”.
