事故による子どもの傷害は多発しており,重要な健康問題となっている.子どもが事故に遭遇しやすい理由は「発達」するからである.昨日まで寝返りできなかった子どもが,今日,寝返りをしてベッドから落ちてしまう.子どもの事故は,何歳になったら,どんな事故が起こるかはわかっており,多くの場合,どうしたら予防できるかもわかっている.傷害予防に取り組む場合は,重症度や発生頻度が高く,増加している事故について優先的に取り組む必要がある.予防するためには,傷害が発生した状況や製品・環境の詳しい情報が不可欠であり,また,いろいろな職種の専門家が連携する必要がある.傷害が起こった時の情報を,「変えたいもの」「変えられないもの」「変えられるもの」の3 つに分け,「変えられるものを見つけ,変えられるものを変える」ことが予防なのである.

Many serious injuries occur in preschools. Effective injury prevention requires measures customized to the individual preschool. This paper proposed a field-adaptive injury prevention support system that combines both epidemiological analysis of big data of accidents occurred at Japanese preschools and video analysis on accidents/incidents occurred at a specific preschool. While the big data analysis revealed serious injury patterns common in preschools, the video analysis allowed us to extract behavioral patterns in real situations arising at the target preschool. Analysis from both sides enabled the grasping of the behaviors and environments that could lead to serious accidents at the target preschool.

Developing effective safety messages targeting parents is one of the key issues of injury prevention and safety promotion research. The present study was conducted using online-experiment as well as a focus-group methodology to evaluate message effects of animations which depicted childhood injury situations. Parents with children aged 0.5-2 years participated in the study. Compared to simple texts with illustrations on a paper describing injury scenes, animations appeared to be more effective in terms of leaving a strong impression. Focus-group discussion revealed that animations gave parents an opportunity to consider strategies to prevent injuries depicted in the animations. The results suggested that further examination of effectiveness of injury scene animations in safety education is worthwhile.
