わが国の生徒は数学の知識や技能を日常生活の場面で活かす能力が弱いと言われている。OECDが実施している生徒の学習到達度調査(PISA)は,このような生活に関係する課題を活用する能力を測ることを目的とした国際的な学力調査である。この調査の結果から,他の国と比較したわが国の特徴を分析することができるが,国の成績の順位や各項目の正答率はその国の教育水準を反映するため,知識を日常場面で活かす力という観点からはそれを直接比較することはできない。本論文では,PISA2003年調査の「数学的リテラシー」の結果を反応パターンから分析し,多母集団IRT(Item Response Theory)によるDIF(Differential Item Functioning)の検討を行うことで,それぞれの国に所属する同一水準の学力の生徒の反応パターンの違いを明らかにした。分析の対象は,オーストラリア,カナダ,フィンランド,フランス,ドイツ,香港,アイルランド,イタリア,日本,韓国,オランダ,ニュージーランド,アメリカの13か国である。分析の結果,この13か国のうち,わが国は最も特異な困難度のパターンを持っているということが明らかになり,またその特徴として,日常生活に関連する項目を解く力が弱いということが示された。

When applying inference statistics, power analysis should be performed as a part of research plan, and in reporting the results, some measure of effect size is supposed to be included, as APA noted. However, they have been considered less serious indeed. Power analysis including estimation of effect size will be illustrated with sample effect size and sample statistical power calculated for the articles published in the Cognitive Studies.

This study analyzed the statistical power of research studies published in the "Japanese Journal of Psychology" in 2008 and 2009. Sample effect sizes and sample statistical powers were calculated for each statistical test and analyzed with respect to the analytical methods and the fields of the studies. The results show that in the fields like perception, cognition or learning, the effect sizes were relatively large, although the sample sizes were small. At the same time, because of the small sample sizes, some meaningful effects could not be detected. In the other fields, because of the large sample sizes, meaningless effects could be detected. This implies that researchers who could not get large enough effect sizes would use larger samples to obtain significant results.
