COVID-19 outbreak has forced sport spectators to keep social distancing in the stadium/arena, causing economic damage to sport organizations due to a lack of matchday revenue. However, the situation would arouse sport spectators' nostalgia for their past experiences in the sporting venue. Thus, the purpose of this study was to clarify whether nostalgia for spectating sport in the stadium/arena during the pandemic differed by involvement in sport spectatorship. In December 2020, an online survey of Japanese sports spectators (n = 728) was conducted. The result of confirmatory factor analysis explained that sport spectators' experience-based nostalgia during COVID-19 was engendered from memories of their favorite teams, stadiums, and social interactions in the stadium/arena. Mann-Whitney's U tests resulted that sport spectators with higher involvement in sport spectatorship perceived nostalgia stronger than those with lower involvement. Sports teams and leagues could benefit from the knowledge during the “with-corona” period.

We examined the process of development of the first professional female volleyball club in Japan, Victorina Himeji, in relation to its stakeholders. For the purposes of this study, a professional sports club was defined as an organization composed of professional athletes who receive compensations through engagement in sports. We collected qualitative data from websites, papers, books, and archive material. In addition, we conducted a semi-structured interview with Mr. Akira Hashimoto, chief executive of Himeji Victorina. This revealed the involvement of 13 primary stakeholders and 11 secondary stakeholders in Victorina Himeji’s development from its conceptual stage up to the present. Analysis of Victorina Himeji’s organizational development over time revealed 3 phases. Phase 1 was the period from the launch of the club-founding preparatory committee until the establishment of the joint-stock company: Himeji Victorina. During this period, Mr. Masayoshi Manabe, who has been the head Japan women’s volleyball coach until 2016, and interested locals joined together with the idea of creating a professional volleyball team in Himeji city, a period during which Mr. Hashimoto later joined and strengthened the management. Phase 2 was the period following the establishment of Himeji Victorina until its official admission to the V. League. This was the period during which the organization conducted tryouts, scouted and collected players with prospects of strengthening the team, and strengthened the main office staff at the club’s headquarters. In addition, Phase 2 saw the beginning of sponsor recruitment, in addition to strengthening of the top team, along with activities to popularize volleyball and train players through the establishment of the general incorporated association: Victorina Elite Academy. Finally, Phase 3 was the period following the official admission to the V. League until the present. Overall, this study clarified the relationships with stakeholders and engagements as a club, which were both crucial elements in the process of founding this professional sports club and ensuring its growth as an organization.

The purpose of this study is to examine how the experience of belonging to athletic clubs during adolescence affects an individual's involvement status in sports later in life, and whether the influence differs depending on an individual's age group. Web surveys were given to those over the age of 18 living in the Kansai area. The survey remained open for participants to respond until the total number of responses reached 10,000, and the survey occurred between December 6–10, 2018. First, we treated the experience of belonging to athletic clubs in junior high school and high school as one of two values, either "belonged" or "did not belong." Then, they were divided into four groups as career patterns. In order to examine the relationship between sports career patterns of belonging to athletic clubs and an individual's current sports involvement status, we performed a one-way analysis of variance test. Next, in order to examine the relationship between the effect of the sports career patterns in youth and age, we performed a two-way ANOVA using career patterns and age groups as independent variables and the number of sports participated in and watched over the past year as dependent variables. The results of the ANOVA show significant differences in all items, such as exercise frequency and sports watching and volunteering habits. As the results of the two-way ANOVA show, the effect of the career patterns was significant in all items, and the effect of age groups was also significant in most items. Having experience in athletic club activities in adolescence may significantly contribute to the expansion of an individual's range of exercise and sports involvement after entering adulthood.

The purpose of this study was to examine the background and influence of the integration between the Netherlands Olympic Committee and the Netherlands Paralympic Committee. We adopted the framework of a neo-institutional theory. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with two staff of the Netherlands Olympic Committee and the Netherlands Paralympic Committee. In addition, we collected data from the archival materials to complement and check the information obtained from the interview. The analysis was based on thematic analysis. An important milestone in this integration was marked by the signing of a declaration on the initiative of the former State Secretary of the ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports. This declaration was the initiative to integrate disability sport in mainstream sport. The Netherlands Olympic Committee was under formal and positive pressure to sign a country-led declaration, and this integration was " coercive isomorphism." The integration had the advantages of "sharing resources" and "getting fund", led to the strengthening of institutional legitimacy. Also, it had influences on "integration of the national federations and the national disability sport organizations," "grassroots expansion in region sport clubs," and "inclusion of society." Notably, these influences by integration were considered to "mimetic isomorphism" and "normative isomorphism." This study has contributed to the theoretical accumulation of a neo-institutional theory in the context peculiar to sport.
