Although heat conduction with phase change has a great field to be solved for its application not only to the study of various natural phenomena, but also to the practices, it seems that the study has not yet been sufficiently developed for the above mentioned purposes because of its difficulties. The authors, therefore, have tried to get a broad outlook in this field from a stand-point of dimensional analysis. Using dimensionless quantities derived from such an analysis, the partial differential equations of heat conduction can be changed to ordinary ones and it is shown that the general solutions obtained in this way include the exact solutions which have been solved likely by chance. Considerations of a dimensionless quantity being a ratio between the effect of latent and sensible heat, give an approximate and very convenient method to obtain a solution sufficiently exact when the value of the above-mentioned dimensionless quantity is large. This report also gives a rule to decide whether the moving velocity of an interface obtained in this way is higher or lower than that which would be given by the exact solution. The numerical analysis following E. Schmidt is also discussed briefly.

In this report the sub-harmonic resonance of the dissipative system with the restoring force represented by a cubic curve is treated. The authors tried to solve this problems by Fourier series and investigate the stability of the solutions, and then acquired the graphical solution which is useful for actual practice We made an experiment to see the validity of the calculation, that is, we could find how the magnitudes of damping force and external force affect occurrence of sub-harmonic resonance in the non-linear system.

種々の型式の蒸汽タービンの段落効率の一般的研究は既に屡々発表した通りである.今囘はこの一般的研究に於て取扱はなかつた速度複式衝動タービン(主としてテリータービン及びエレクトラタービンの如き特殊型のもの)に就て論じた.即ち段落効率の理論式を誘導し, これを基礎として効率に及す諸因子の影響を明らかにした.本研究に依て知り得たる主なる事項を擧げると次の如くである.(i) 速度複式衝動タービンの諸型式例へばカーチス, テリー及びエレクトラ型の如きは一見著しい相違があるやうに見えるが, 夫々の場合に對する條件を入れることに依て全く同一の方法によりその効率を論じ得ることが明らかとなつた.(ii) この種のタービンでは一般にカーチスタービンの場合に就て既に知られてゐる樣に, 先づ2速段が最も適當と考へてよいことも分かつた.(iii) 輻流タービンにおける蒸汽の流動は, 半徑方向に内向きの流れをなすものと, 外向きの流れの場合の兩型式がある.低速度比に對しては外向きの流れの方が勝れてゐるが, 高速度比の最大効率を生ずる前後では内向きの流れの型式が優秀なことにも論及した.

従耒の調帯掛け普通平削盤とワードレオナルド方式高速平削盤との比較切削試験を試み、理論的立場といふよりは寧ろ現場的立場に重点を置き、工場に於て実際に使用し得るに便利な簡易なる切削力測定器を作り、それに依て両者の特異性を明らかにせんとしたものである。この目的のために普通平削盤にはシンシナチ製 20ft ベルト掛け平削盤、高速平削盤にはニイガタ 5D型標準高速平削盤を使用し、同一なる材質、形状及び大きさを有する被切削材を、各機に適應した実用的の切削条件の下に於て比較切削試験を行つたものである。

Many researches on the longitudinal motion of locomotive while it is running, have already been reported. But the explanations on the velocity with which the locomotive moves longitudinally while running seem insufficient. In this paper, the longitudinal motion of locomotive is regarded as an oscillation which causes a periodical collision between the locomotive and tender. This is a forced oscillation caused by the unbalanced force of engine. Then the velocity of the oscillation can be calculated as a resonant velocity. The results obtained from the calculations concide fairly with practical measurements. Preventions of these oscillations are also discussed.

Regarding the penetrating distance of fuel spray of Diesel engine, the old theory dealing with the motion of a fuel droplet in still air is recognized not to coincide with the actual phenomenon because of extremely small size of atomized fuel droplets and very high density of gas in cylinder. In this paper, the characteristics of spray penetration are discussed from the viewpoint of momentum theory based on the idea that air induced into fuel jet stream makes a kind of mixed gas together with fuel droplets. As the results of a series of experiments, the following conclusions have been reached : (1) Theory of momentum for the spray penetration holds good, and effects of elements which control the penetrating distance can be expressed by relatively simple relations consisting of non-dimensional numbers. (2) The distance of spray penetration is proportional to square roots of each of nozzle orifice diameter, injection velocity and time after injection begins, and also is influenced by density of gas in cylinder, but the effect of viscosity of gas on the penetrating distance which remained uncertain is very little. (3) Excess air coefficient of spray mixture increases in proportion to penetrating distance, and the ratio between cylinder bore and such a penetrating distance that excess air coefficient becomes one (1) gives a base of similarity of fuel spray distribution in cylinder. In the design, accordingly, nozzle orifice diameter may be determined only in proportion to cylinder bore.

水中における翼型は、高速低圧に於てキャビテーションを発生し、その際における性能は風洞実驗に依ては求められない。然るに廻流水槽における水中翼型の実驗によれば、キャビテーション発生下における翼型性能を求められる。又勿論キャビテーションの発生せざる場合の性能(即ち風洞実驗に該當するもの只空気の代りに水を用ひる)も求められる。この場合も含めて翼型のキャビテーション性能と称した。今回は4箇の翼型に関する結果を報告する。

The mechanical properties of rubber vibration isolators depend on the amplitude, frequency, temperature, inclination and mean stress, and have remarkable shape effect. When designing, not only such properties but also the kinds of rubber, the conditions of vulcanization, the influences of blending and coating of different rubbers as to the characteristics of materials have to be considered. Furthermore, the deformation of rubber under usual stress is not infinitesimal. The author has continued calculations and experiments in view of the theory of viscoplasto-elasticity advanced by Prof. Sawaragi and strength of materials. And now it becomes possible to calculate the apparent modulus and spring constant by the successive approximation method. From such results a rational method to design rubber vibration isolators is contrived, considering terms above mentioned as much as possible. In this method using nomographs, design can be expedited with a high accuracy.

The effects of stress ratio, ratio of number of cycles and magnitude of applied stress on the fatigue strength of notched medium steel were studied under many-fold multiple rotating bending load in two stress levels. A few other investigators have reported that on the notched specimen the fatigue life is nearly equal to the calculated life by the linear damage law, i.e, Nth=n0/(nA/NA+na/Na). According to the test results the fatigue life on the notched specimen shows the same tendency to change with the stress ratio, the ratio of number of cycles and the magnitude of the applied stress as on the smooth specimen all over the stress range. But the value of N/Nth on the notched specimen seems to be larger than that on the smooth specimen. In the last part of this paper we state the way to modify the linear damage law with the stress correction factors which are the functions of stress ratio, the ratio of number of cycles and magnitude of applied stress. The method makes it possible to deduce the fatigue life under manyfold multiple load with the help of a few experimental data.

It is well known that the characteristics of rubber vibration isolators depend upon their shapes. So the authors obtained experimental equations which show the variations of their characteristics in relation to the shape factor S=(cross sectional area)/(free surface area). They previously proposed the successive approximation method already on a supposition that the variations of characteristics are chiefly caused by shape effect due to their deformations. Here the more accurate approximation method is presented on a supposition that the deformed shape is a sort of rotating parabolic body. And the radius of curvature of bonded part largely influences the moduli of rubber vibration isolators, but even in such cases this calculating method is applicable.
