The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of shot peening on surface durability of sintered powder metal rollers under a sliding-rolling contact condition. The compressive residual stress, the hardness and the surface roughness of the rollers increased and the pores near the surface of those were deformed by the shot peening. The failure mode of the rollers was mainly spalling. The failure depth agreed almost with the depth where the amplitude A(τ_<yz>/HV) of the ratio of the orthogonal shear stress to Vickers hardness became maximum. The surface durabilities of the shot-peened rollers were lower than that of the unpeened roller in these experiments. While, the spalling cracks propagated from the sharp notches of the pores deformed by the shot peening. In addition, it can be considered that the shear stress below the contact surface of the shot-peened rollers increases, since the increase of the surface roughness by the shot peening results into the increase of the frictional force between the rollers. Therefore, it could follows from this that the mild shot peening without sharp deformed pore and too large surface roughness should be selected in order to improve the surface durability of the sintered rollers.

In this paper, the position and force control of constrafined motion of robotic manipulators is discussed. First, issues related to decoupling position and force-controlled directions are discussed. The fundamentals of estimation of the contact force without using force or torque sensors are then presented, and a control scheme for position and force control of robotic manipulators without using force sensors is proposed. The extension of this scheme to redundant manipulators is also discussed. Finally, the proposed control scheme is implemented on a 3-DOF planar redundant manipulator, and the experimental results illustrate the validity of the control scheme.

モノレールや新交通システムに採用されている剛体電車線では,集電装置が離線しやすく,騒音が大ですり板の寿命が短い欠点がある.そこで,これらの問題点を解決する新しい集電装置を試作し,回転円板形等価実験装置を新設して各種実験し,新形集電装置と新しく開発した黒鉛分散鋳造銅合金すり板とを組み合わせた結果,騒音低減が著しく,また離線率およびすり板の寿命も現状品に比較し,格段に向上させることができた.

A method for supporting industrial design with special attention paid to the diversity of Kansei was proposed to respond to the quickly diversifying customers' requirements. As Kansei is very individualistic in nature, a new approach is needed to accommodate the difference from person to person to really reflect the customer's preference In terms of Kansei or his or her personal evaluation Kansei feature. Therefore, such a method was developed which creates a different Kansei space for each different user, by applying a semantic differential method and a principal component analysis to the impression words. A prototype system was developed with cellular phones as samples and the usefulness of our method was demonstrated.

この論文は,計算機援助下での形状設計において有用な曲線創成報を扱っている.この方法によれば,任意の通過点,接線方向,曲率を指定して曲線形状を定義でき,さらに,その生成された曲線を他の機能的,審美的要求に合うように修正できる.この創成法は,Bezier曲線のなめらかな接続に基づいており,Bezier曲線の各種の図式的特徴を活用している.曲線の接続は,条件の視覚化と,Bezier曲線の穂坂表現式による式操作の単純化によって容易に扱える.

The present paper describes the implementation of and experiments on a three-axis tactile sensor applying an optical wave guide plate. The sensor is comprised of a sparse array of columnar feelers and a dense array of conical feelers, which are formed on opposite sides of a silicon rubber sheet. The columnar feelers contact objects while the conical feelers contact the acrylic optical waveguide plate. Three components of a force vector applied to the columnar feeler are identified from contact areas of four conical feelers which are covered by one columnar feeler. Contact points of conical feelers photographed using a CCD camera are transferred into a frame memory board installed in a personal computer and they are memorized as 8-bit patterns. A one-bit pattern is quantized from the 8-bit pattern by utilizing a suitable threshold value; the contact areas of conical feelers are obtained from the total number of picture cells of the one-bit pattern. In evaluation experiments, several combinations of vertical and horizontal forces are applied to the columnar feeler through a probe attached to a three-axis force sensor. The experimental results show that the three components of the force vector can be calculated from the four contact areas, and that hard material is not favorable for the conical feelers but is suitable for columnar feelers.

方形波の分散によるひずみ波形をフーリエ級数展開近似による方法で計算し、方形波の分散波に関する特徴的形状をまず提示した。ついで、片持ばりに方形波を入力した場合について、有限要素法による数値解と実験から分散波に近い結果を得、現実に波形ひずみが生じていることを明らかにした。さらに、固有モードの形成過程を考察し、高い振動数ほど速く形成されることを明らかにした。

The poor operation for information systems such as car navigation systems may result in the visual workload. To reduce the visual workload produced by information systems and their use during vehicle operation, we propose a user-adaptive vehicle information interface with a reconfigured navigation sequence. We propose the information assistance interface which recommends a preferred content in short time without following the hierarchical steps because of the hierarchical structure of most car navigation systems. Our proposed user-adaptive interface consists of user modeling using a hidden Markov model (HMM) and symbol matching which is the reconfiguration of a navigation sequence. The interface learns a user's navigation patterns based on accumulated navigation sequences. The navigation sequence is reconfigured by the user model and a clue. The symbol matching is performed in compliance with the user's selection and the navigation sequence is recommended to the user. Experimental results showed that reconfiguring the navigation sequence and switches reduced navigation reaction time.

This paper proposes a new system for analyzing the shearing process using the visioplasticity method. This visioplasticity method is well known as a method for analyzing the metal deformation processing. Drawbacks to the grid method such as large deformation cannot be treated, time-consuming, Processing procedure is complex when image processing by computer is performed, have been overcome with this newly developed method. This newly developed method consists of the following steps. First, images of materials at an arbitrary stage and the following stage are input into the computer. Next, the displacement between the two stages is obtained by a correlation methed based upon the inverse Fourier transform of the phase difference between two images. By repeating this process, the whole forming process can be analyzed accurately in a short time under a wide range of deformation. In order to verify this proposal, practical shearing tests and the analysis of these tests using this system were carried out. As a result, the distribution of displacement and strains until a very large plastic deformation of the material could successfully be obtained.

Usage of self-excitation as an excitation method for cantilever-probe in atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been proposed in order to improve the low quality factor Q in liquid environments. For realization of non-contact mode AFM, it is necessary to reduce the amplitude of the self-excited cantilever-probe. In this study, the self-excited oscillation of the cantilever-probe is generated by the angular velocity feedback. In addition, the small steady state amplitude is achieved by nonlinear feedback proportional to the squared deflection angle and the angular velocity. Regarding the micro cantilever-probe as a micro cantilever beam, we show the equation of motion in which the geometrical nonlinear effect is taken into account. Averaged equation is derived by applying the method of multiple scales and the bifurcation diagram is theoretically described. Then, it is clarified that the amplitude of the cantilever-probe can be reduced by increasing the nonlinear feedback gain. By using our own making AFM, we demonstrate the nonlinear dynamics of a "van der Pol" type self-excited cantilever. Steady state amplitude of self-excited oscillation is reduced to 8 nm.

The characteristic which the Duffing oscillator with a softening spring property under harmonically stimulating force presents in the main resonant region has been investigated numerically. With regard to the structure which the system exhibits in this region, there exists another branch which appears due to bifurcation from the resonant branch at a certain frequency, in addition to the resonant and nonresonant branches. It has been clarified that many kinds of periodic solutions exist in the region between this new branch and the resonant one. Furthermore, besides the traditional harmonic solutions, i. e., resonant and nonresonant solutions, it has been shown that another harmonic solution appears, although it is unstable. This unstable solution enables us to reasonably explain the constitution of attractors in this resonant region. Chaotic phenomena, which appear due to period doubling bifurcation also exist.

In the previous paper, the general theory of exact solutions in a family of Duffing oscillators including hard, soft and snap-through spring systems was studied. In particular the paper discussed the hard spring system in detail, and a listing of the numeration program was included. As a continued report, the soft spring system is dealt with here in detail. All the free vibrations in a family of Duffing oscillators are solved exactly and formally in terms of a family of Jacobian elliptic functions ; however, their precise numeration is a very important task. The present study is devoted to discussing excellent algorithms/programs. A FORTRAN program with the precision of REAL * 16 is presented, which ensures an accuracy with relative error of less than 10^<-30>. The listing of the program and numerical results of the dynamics of the Duffing oscillator with the soft spring system are demonstrated.

From our experimental results previously reported, it was considered that the formation of water film between contact surfaces remarkably influenced on adhesion force or contact mechanism under water lubrication. Here are reported the results of numerical analysis based on the Herrebrugh's integral equation for applying the EHL theory to water lubrication of steel rollers. The formulas of film thickness were obtained with various EHL parameters for lower pressure-viscosity coefficient such as that of water. Furthermore, it was shown that the adhesion coefficients previously obtained were well related to the contact load supported with asperities through water film, which was estimated by assuming asperities with spherical summit on one surface and Gaussian asperity height distribution.

A passive walker can exhibit a stable limit cycle. In our earlier work, a global stabilization principle of fixed point has been established mathematically, provided that the state just after heel-strike exists at the next step. However, this condition may not always hold. The passive walker with knees can execute the leg-swing motion with no control, only by gravity effect. Unfortunately, while the walker takes a step forward, the swing leg may strike its toe on the slope at unsuitable point. Therefore, understanding of the mechanism of swing-leg motion is very important for assuring the next step. In this study, we focus on the flexion and extension of knee joint of swing leg. In this paper, first, an equation of angular acceleration of knee joint is derived by simplifying and linearizing the model of passive walker. Then, the mechanism of the flexion and extension of knee joint of swing leg is explained.

In this paper, we introduce a new mechanism of quasi-passive-dynamic-walking machine which uses actuators just only at ankle joints. First, we analyzed about basic mechanisms of passive dynamic walking. So, we made and modeled the passive dynamic walking machine that walks down the slope. Experiment of the walking was compared with the numerical analysis, which showed the validity of the model. And, these were analyzed from the energy point of view. Second, we proposed a new control method of quasi-passive-dynamic-walking based on the result of analysis of passive dynamic walking. The new method was confirmed by the numerical analysis on a horizontal plane. Finally, ankle-driven type of quasi-passive dynamic walking machine was designed and developed. Experiment of the walking on the horizontal plane was done. That result shows the validity of the idea.

For the purpose of establishing the mathematical beckground of a kinematic analysis of a multiple body system, the Lie aglebra of a motion group has been studied, and the algebraic experessions for kinematic analysis which is applicable any motion group is determined. Firstly it is shown that the equations for determining relative velocities and accelerations among rigid bodies can be expressed by the Lie algebra of addition and commutator product representing a Lie algebra of a motion group. Next, it is also clarified that the velocity and the acceleration of the point on a rigid body in a motion can be computed by multiplying an function of elements of the Lie algebra to the vector indicating the point from the left side. There exist eight groups of the rigid body motion, and the characteristics of the motin groups can be described by the theory of Lie algebra.

This paper describes a strategy for foreign direct investment (FDI) of multinational enterprises when manufacturing costs change with time. This FDI planning problem is formulated in order to determine how many manufacturing facilities are needed in each country when they are needed, and how many products should be manufactured to meet the product demand in each country. It is assumed that both product demand and manufacturing costs in each country change with time. Finally, an algorithm for finding an optimal solution of the FDI planning problem is developed and an example is demonstrated.

本論文は,両側に張出しを持つはりと片側にのみ張出しを持つはりとの横振動特性を調べることを目的としており,2個の力の作用する両端自由はりと,1個の力の作用する一端支持,一端自由のはりとの運動方程式を解き,その解に支持点位置での条件を適用することによって振動数方程式を求め,振動数を計算し,振動数に与える張出し部の長さの影響を明らかにし,実験によってその結果をためした.

There is a method of measuring a shake and vibration quantiatively and evaluating, in one of the performance evaluations of a moving object like vehicles. In that case, the acceleration information as an amount of physics of a shake and vibration becomes important. Furthermore, the acceleration information on 6 DOF is needed when measuring complicated motion of vehicles etc. Then, we constructed 6 DOF acceleration sensor system which used three dual-axis accelerometers, and enabled measurement 6 DOF acceleration. In this paper, we analyzed the problem of the stability in the measurement system of the same method that was not clearly analyzed in the past research. We took notics of a nonlinear term that consist of an angular velocity, which included in the derivation algorithm of 6 DOF acceleration, and made clearly how a nonlinear term would influence the stability of a measurement system by the analysis simulation. And we installed the acceleration sensor in vehicles and performed measuring 6 DOF acceleration to a slalom run. As a result of comparing survey data with a simulation data, emission of the measurement system under the influence of a nonlinear term was not seen.
