In this paper, we prove that there exists a perfect 1-factorization of the complete bipartite graph K_<n,n> if there exists a perfect 1-factorization of the complete graph K_<n+1>, and when n > 2 is even, there does not exist perfect 1-factorizations of K_<n,n>.

We have surveyed student satisfaction with the curriculum, the graduation research paper system, the facilities, the services, etc. in the School of Administration and Informatics, University of Shizuoka from 1997. In this paper we report and analyze the results of the survey. This will be used as the basis for improvements of the educational environment of our university.

We will show that logistic curves explain many trends of growth, such as economic growth and increase in population, taking the case of the telephone penetration rate. We will extend logistic curves to the general sigmoid curves and give some examples using probability density functions.

A double Dudeney set in Kn is a multiset of Hamilton cycles in K_n having the property that each 2-path in K_n lies on exactly two of the cycles. In this paper, we construct a double Dudeney set in K_n when n=p^2+2, where p is an odd prime number.

A set of Hamilton cycles in the complete graph K_n is called a λ-ply Dudeney set if every path of length two lies on exactly λ of the cycles. The problem of constructing a λ-ply Dudeney set in Kn has been solved when n is even, but it is still open when n is odd. In this paper, we construct a λ-ply Dudeney set in Kn, where λ=n-3 when n=4k + 3 (k ≥ 1), and II^<e-1>_<i=0>(2^<e-i>k_1-2) when n=2^ek_1+1 ≥ 5 (e ≥ 1, k_1 is odd).

A set of Hamilton cycles in the complete graph on n vertices is called a Dudeney set, if every path of length two lies on exactly one of the cycles. It has been conjectured that there is a Dudeney set for every complete graph, but it is still unsettled. Furthermore, little is known about the number of non-isomorphic Dudeney sets. In the previous paper, we constructed two types of new Dudeney sets using perfect 1-factorizations and determined the numbers of these Dudeney sets. In this paper, we show Dudeney sets of these types are not isomorphic, so the number of them are determined.

The aim of the paper is to examine the historical significance of the productivity-improvement movements in Japan afer World War II by investigating the procss in which the movements arose and results of sending study teams overseas, an activity that was most favored by Japan Productivity Center, the driving force behind the movements. This study found the following: Firstly, those who had had previous backgrounds in introducing the scientific management methods in Japan shouldered guiding roles in the introduction of American-style management during the time of productivity movement of 1950s-60s. Secondly, the American-style management methods were introduced upon the foundation of managerial capability of the individuals, a superstructure of shared and accumulated organizational capability within companies. Thirdly, oraganizations of productivity-improvement movements in Japan, in the long time perspectives, are characterized as a mutual complementary system of the government, business representatives and related organizations. That is, the central body of the movements was newly established every time to meet the new needs of the time through active support by government and business associations. Though former central bodies came to assume supporting role, the whole system became stronger and expanded as time went by.

今日、消費者のリーフ緑茶に対する需要が低迷し、多くの茶生産者、茶卸売業、茶小売業は停滞もしくは衰退の業況にある。とくに、全国一の茶産地である静岡の茶業界は、厳しい状況にある。茶産地静岡の活力維持のためには、従来の発想にとらわれない戦略的展開が不可欠になっている。そこで本研究では、従来の"静岡の緑茶を売る"という発想から、"緑茶のある静岡を売る"、すなわち、地域をマーケティングするという発想に転換し、緑茶とツーリズムとの融合による茶産地静岡のイノベーションの方向性を検討した。消費者に対する質問紙調査から得られたデータを用いて、緑茶とツーリズムを融合した茶産地マーケティングの方向性を分析した結果、"リラックス型の緑茶ツーリズム"の構築等の有効性が示唆された。緑茶にかかわるツーリズムが定着すれば、消費者の緑茶への愛着向上、茶産地のブランドイメージ向上等によって、緑茶の需要増加、茶産地の活性化が期待できる。

There is no management in Japanese regions. Any buildings and roads do not have a coherence with small number of exception. Almost local governments which should take an initiative of town planning leave everything to chance on the pretext of only 30% autonomous ability. Firms and individuals seem to think that they can do what they like with their own property. Anyone would not be worried about the future of town together with neighborhood. The Big Bang, however, is going to draw more and more people out of apathy. Decentralization of authority which is not sufficient yet makes a sound progress step by step. Big merging of municipalities asks every inhabitant what his and/or her region should be. Various kinds of problems which local governments, firms, and inhabitants have no choice but to tackle by themselves come to the fore frequently all over the country. Any region in which there is no management will not be able to survive an elimination match with other regions. Not only local governments but also firms, NPOs, and individuals have to acquire the regional management as a major actor in their region. The purpose of this article is to theorize the regional management which does a lot for a growth and development of region. First of all, problems against which most of regions come up are sorted into four categories. Next, four approaches to region : a political economics approach, a substantial one, a nominal one, and a mixed one, are closely investigated. Thirdly, a management process in the broad sense of the word is distinguished into two stages : an entrepreneurial stage and a management one in the narrow sense of the word. Lastly, the new type of "organized entrepreneurship" which is indispensable for all the regions to ride out the Big Bang troubles. This article, at any rate, is no better than a tentative study.

Professor Mitsuru Yamazaki distinguished himself as an economist specializing in local industries in Japan. As a "star" professor at the University of Shizuoka, he was also quite popular both in the mass media and among students. In 1993, however, he suddenly died at the age of 59. Why was he so popular? What was he most interested in ? What did he want to accomplish in his life? What kind of career did he pursue and how did he develop his identity? In this essay, I explored the answers to these questions in my own way. I had worked with Professor Yamazaki in urban planning committees for three years. We also co-authored a book, "Three Major Cities in the Shizuoka Prefecture," which makes a comparison of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, and Numazu, three of the major cities in the Shizuoka Prefecture. In this sense, I may have had opportunities to observe Professor Yamazaki a little more closely than other colleagues of mine. Moreover, I have been contributing a series of cartoons, "Professor Challenge," to the official bulletin of our School and Professor Yamazaki also appeared in the cartoons eight times. In the essay, I presented the cartoons chronologically to use them as subtitles. I also added facts and episodes related to the cartoons, whereby I tried to conjure up the whole image of Professor Yamazaki as an individual.

This essay presents the profiles of nine foreign teachers and professors on campus at the University of Shizuoka based on interviews with them. The questions include: Why did they come to Japan?; how did they decide to be a teacher or professor and what do they think of teaching?; what does it mean for them to live in Japan?; how well do they adjust themselves to Japanese culture? In short, what kind of careers have they pursued and how have they affected their sense of identity? It was found that many of them were teaching foreign languages, married with Japanese, and thinking of teaching as their calling. Although they were often put into a cross-cultural dilenma in everyday life, they seemed to be fairly well-adjusted to Japanese culture.

This paper attempts to clarify the business activities of Taichiro Morinaga and Saburosuke Suzuki, especially of marketing. The former is the founder of Morinagaseika which was inagurated in 1899, and the latter is the founder of Ajinomoto established in 1908. Morinagaseika is a first-mover in the confectionery industory in Japan and Ajinomoto in the seasoning industory too.

This paper describes the implementation of the semantic network and the processing of the preference rules for the pragmatic inference on the natural language understanding system based on the feature structure grammar. The method taken is the control of the constraint solver with these processing and it keeps advantages of the constraint-based approach.

本稿では、消費経験主義研究について検討を行った。まず、消費者行動研究全体における消費経験主義研究の位置づけが弱いことを述べた。次に、消費経験主義の主要概念として「快楽消費」と「消費の意味」の二つを取り上げ、それぞれの問題点を検討し、今後の方向性について提案を行った。「快楽消費」については、"快楽"の概念に注目し、1."効用"の概念との対比の非妥当性、2."属性"との関係の問題、3."快楽"以外の感情の研究の必要性、の3点に関する議論を展開した。一方、「消費の意味」については、1.消費の個人的意味と社会・文化的意味の区別の必要性、および2.社会・文化的意味の研究課題について論じた。最後に、実務サイドにおいても、消費経験主義と共通の関心があることを指摘し、今後は実務サイドの見解も消費経験主義研究に組み込んでいくべきであると論じた。
