シロウリガイ属はこれまで北東・北西太平洋から多様の種類が知られてきたが,南西太平洋からはニュージーランド沖とラウ海盆からこの属の出現が予報的に報じられているのみで,分類学的な詳細は公表されていない。ところが,1994年にドイツのゾンネ号が行ったニューアイルランド海盆の調査中,リヒル島沖のエジソン海山から本属の標本を採集していた。今回その後同地点から採集された標本の形態学的および分子系統学的研究(Kojima et al.,未発表)を行った結果,我が国本州沖の南海トラフに棲むナンカイシロウリガイに近似の未記載種であることが判ったので記載した。Calyptogena(Archivesica) edisonensis n. sp.エジソンシロウリガイ(新種・新称)殻長99.8mm(ホロタイプ)。殻頂は前方1/4〜1/5くらいに偏っていて,殻の後域は僅かに広がる。殻皮は薄く,殻頂域では剥離している。〓歯は放射状。浅い殻頂下洞がある。前足牽引筋痕は明らか。エジソン海山の水深1450m。あらゆる点でナンカイシロウリガイに似るが,ナンカイシロウリガイでは前足牽引筋痕が深い孔状になる特異性がある。

50歳代の男性。腎硬化症のため16年前から血液透析がなされていた。胸部異常陰影精査目的の胸腹部CT検査にて5cm大の左副腎腫瘍が指摘された。血液透析患者に発症した左副腎褐色細胞腫と診断され,泌尿器科・循環器内科・腎臓内科・内分泌内科・麻酔科が合同で厳格な水分管理のもとに手術を行う方針となった。術前3週間前よりα/β遮断薬を投与し,dry weightを徐々に増加させた。腹腔鏡下副腎腫瘍摘除術に加えて左腎摘出も行った。腎動脈の遮断まではα遮断薬を用いて降圧し,中心静脈切離後からカテコールアミンで昇圧した。術後合併症を認めず手術9日目で退院となった。血液透析患者の心肺予備能を考慮し,慎重な術前体液管理・術中血圧管理を必要とした点,長期血液透析患者ゆえに組織の脆弱性が予想され手術操作に細心の注意を払った点など,示唆に富んだ貴重な症例を経験したので報告する。

Kojima Art Laboratory has been engaged in the Shizu-Okashi (Japanese- style confectionery associated with Shizuoka-city) art project since 2008 to promote communication and innovation in the community. As part of the project, we are now holding an art show using as a motif rabbit rice cake sweets, one of the three traditional confectioneries in Shizuoka-city.The show presents the art works featuring a fairy tale of rabbits giving rabbit rice cake sweets as a gift to Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, who lived in Sunpu Castle, Shizuoka-city, in the early 1600 s. The art works are comprised of three folding screens, a bead castle, and two shaped articles based on the fairy tale. The show is scheduled to be held in several shops and public facilities in the community.

In deep-sea reducing environments, such as hydrothermal vent fields and cold seep areas, biological communities with huge biomass are often observed. Such communities associated with bacterial chemosynthesis, which are composed of species endemic to these environments, are founded with hydrothermal activities and succeed with changes of activities. Over a longer timescale, genetic deviations among local populations and speciation occur during the course of a series of activities and finally new faunal groups diverged. We attempt to estimate the ages of various hydrothermal phenomena on various timescales from 10 to 107 years on the basis of the evolutionary ecology of animals endemic to hydrothermal vents as part of the “Taiga project”. In this paper, we introduce communities in hydrothermal vent fields and describe the principals of methodologies for age estimation, which we are now planning, and the expected results.

Professor Mitsuru Yamazaki distinguished himself as an economist specializing in local industries in Japan. As a "star" professor at the University of Shizuoka, he was also quite popular both in the mass media and among students. In 1993, however, he suddenly died at the age of 59. Why was he so popular? What was he most interested in ? What did he want to accomplish in his life? What kind of career did he pursue and how did he develop his identity? In this essay, I explored the answers to these questions in my own way. I had worked with Professor Yamazaki in urban planning committees for three years. We also co-authored a book, "Three Major Cities in the Shizuoka Prefecture," which makes a comparison of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, and Numazu, three of the major cities in the Shizuoka Prefecture. In this sense, I may have had opportunities to observe Professor Yamazaki a little more closely than other colleagues of mine. Moreover, I have been contributing a series of cartoons, "Professor Challenge," to the official bulletin of our School and Professor Yamazaki also appeared in the cartoons eight times. In the essay, I presented the cartoons chronologically to use them as subtitles. I also added facts and episodes related to the cartoons, whereby I tried to conjure up the whole image of Professor Yamazaki as an individual.

This essay presents the profiles of nine foreign teachers and professors on campus at the University of Shizuoka based on interviews with them. The questions include: Why did they come to Japan?; how did they decide to be a teacher or professor and what do they think of teaching?; what does it mean for them to live in Japan?; how well do they adjust themselves to Japanese culture? In short, what kind of careers have they pursued and how have they affected their sense of identity? It was found that many of them were teaching foreign languages, married with Japanese, and thinking of teaching as their calling. Although they were often put into a cross-cultural dilenma in everyday life, they seemed to be fairly well-adjusted to Japanese culture.

Shell morphology of Calyptogena soyoae-complex (Bivalvia : Vesicomyidae) was compared between the two mitochondrial haplotypes that had been revealed by the previous genetic study. Significant morphological differences between the two haplotypes were detected by an analysis of covariance of shell length-height relationship and by t-test of the average value of length-height ratio. On the basis of the molecular and morphological differences between two haplotypes, Calyptogena okutanii n. sp., a sibling species of Calyptogena soyoae, is established from the seep area off Hatsushima Island, Sagami Bay, central Honshu, Japan.

海洋科学技術センター(JAMSTEC)が運用する深海調査システム(有人潜水調査船, 無人探査機, 深海曳航式カメラ)を用いて, 日本周辺の深海化学合成生物群集におけるオトヒメハマグリ科二枚貝の採集及び生息環境の観察を行い, 6種について新たな分布域を発見した。シマイシロウリガイは, 相模湾の初島沖と沖ノ山堆の冷水湧出域と沖縄トラフ伊平屋海嶺の熱水噴出域に分布していることが知られていたが, 沖縄トラフの北部伊平屋海嶺からも新たに発見された。テンリュウシロウリガイは, これまで知られている南海トラフ天竜海底谷の冷水湧出域に加え, 南海トラフ第三天竜海底谷からも発見された。ナンカイシロウリガイは, 南海トラフ竜洋海底谷の冷水湧出域に分布していることが知られていたが, 沖縄トラフ北部伊平屋海嶺の熱水噴出域にも新たに発見された。ニヨリシロウリガイは, これまで知られている南海トラフのユキエ海嶺や東海スラストの冷水湧出域に加え, 琉球海溝(南西諸島海溝)付近の喜界島沖の冷水湧出域から死殻が採集された。エンセイシロウリガイは, これまで知られている沖縄トラフ南奄西海丘に加え, 南海トラフ第二天竜海底谷の冷水湧出域に生息し, さらに南海トラフの室戸海丘と足摺海丘, 琉球海溝付近の黒島海丘から死殻が採集された。ノチールシロウリガイは, 天竜海底谷に加え, 南海トラフの第一南室戸海丘の冷水湧出域から新たに発見された。また, これまで日本周辺の深海化学合成生物群集から出現しているオトヒメハマグリ科に属するシロウリガイ属およびオトヒメハマグリ属二枚貝の地理的分布・鉛直分布をまとめた。そして, 日本周辺ではシロウリガイ属二枚貝の分布は, 熱水噴出や冷水湧出といった化学合成生物群集のタイプの違いや地理的な距離に左右されず, 同じ水深レベルには同じ種が出現する傾向が認められた。

最近12カ月間にトラニラストが原因と考えられた重症肝障害の5症例を経験した.トラニラスト内服開始後,平均34日目に黄疸を認めて入院となり,内服中止後平均37日で肝機能の正常化を認めた.薬物リンパ球刺激試験は3例に施行したがいずれも陰性で,薬物性肝障害の診断には国際コンセンサス会議の診断基準が有用であった.トラニラストによる肝障害はまれではなく,内服中は定期的に肝機能を検査する必要がある.

日本海溝の超深海域より採集したオトヒメハマグリ科ナラクシロウリガイCalyptogena fossajaponicaの共生細菌の性状を明らかにするため, 形態観察, 硫黄含有量および同位体組成分析, 分子系統解析を行った。透過型電子顕微鏡観察により, この二枚貝の鰓上皮細胞中に多数の細菌を確認した。また, この二枚貝の軟体部の硫黄含有量と硫黄同位体組成の解析により, 硫黄細菌の存在を示唆する結果を得た。更に, この細菌の16SリボソームRNA遺伝子配列を決定し, 系統解析を行ったところ, この細菌は深海の熱水噴出域, 冷水湧出域に生息する他のオトヒメハマグリ科二枚貝の共生硫黄細菌と近縁であった。この共生細菌はガラパゴスシロウリガイ, ナギナタシロウリガイおよびフロリダ海底崖産シロウリガイ類の1種の共生細菌と単系統群を形成した。これら4種の二枚貝は他の多くのシロウリガイ類に比べて大深度に分布していた。シロウリガイ類は種ごとに垂直分布が異なることが知られているが, このような垂直分布様式の違いはそれぞれの共生細菌の影響を受けているのかもしれない。
