Concerned with the question of religious awareness in the thought system of Kant, this essay considers his philosophical position in the Critiques in reference to the situation where humans are brought face to face with God. Lots of students have attempted to examine Kant's own standpoint about the relationship between human beings and God; especially those academic works which concentrate attention on the teachings of Critique of Practical Reason stress that his theoretical position is one of ethical, not religious, apparatus of discovering God by way of moral aspects of human beings. Yet, in spite of their findings, many of those theoretical and terminological inconsistencies about basic character of human beings which are found in Kant's own system of ideas remain unaccounted for. In this essay the author tries to open up a new perspective in which to grasp Kant's own view of the limited nature of human beings as finite beings with innate depravity, and of a necessary logical shift from ethics to religion.

Competence to communicate is essential for those who work at medical institutions. Various kinds of communication trainings have been provided in professional health care education, and acquiring good skills in medical interviews has been a major interest in higher education. However, many of those trainings have paid little attention to interactive communication with patients and competences for inter-professional collaboration. It is important that students have a chance to participate in the dialogue as a member of community of inquiry into the issues they are sharing. This experience will help students understand human diversity in terms of both aspects of sameness and difference. The method of “Socratic Dialogue” was introduced as a part of training for health care professionals. We report educational implications of offering opportunities to experience community inquiry.

This paper focuses on the aspects of art for art's sake and religious sense through The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890) which was written by Oscar Wilde. The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of the most well-knownworks by Wilde and has been regarded as the immoral novel. However his short fictions for children, namely, The Happy Prince and Other Tales (1888) and The House of Pomegranates (1891) are filled with his religious sense. I have investigated religious aspects in The Picture of Dorian Gray, and have clarified not only the coexistence of art for art's sake and his religious sense but also the conflict between both of them.

The purpose of this study is to examine cases of the “past life therapy” of “spiritual” pain by means of the method of Dr. Brian Weiss's “past life therapy” by surveying summaries of patients' age, occupation,religion, symptoms, treatment and psychological state. Through this case study, the authors of this essay wish to pave their way to consider the tendency of spiritual pain, and to clarify the issues and direction of future care. In the framework of the “past life therapy,” “spiritual” pain of life in this world is a pain which is visible to the real being because this catches the pain as it is. A sufferer's sense of being seen by the real being leads the sufferer to reduce pain. According to the theory, talking about death and experiences of world after death “widen our horizons”, and “values and behaviors change when the sufferer wakes.” This enables the sufferer to “transcend” this world and rise to a multilateral dimension of mind, spirit, or soul.This world briefed here is a main subject of our analysis.

When patients leave hospital and wish to continue to receive medical care and treatments at home, what kind of support and aid should be provided by ward nurses to the patients concerned and their family members?Nurses' opinions and views and cases of patients and their families were examined by reference to Anne Bishop’s perspective of nursing. The analysis showed the following. Firstly, nurses tend to perceive home care purely in a medical framework; they have some difficulty in understanding that the contexts of everyday living for patients and their families differ from those of medical providers. In the second place, adhering too much to nursing manuals at hospital, nurses tend to have pre-conceived notions of patients' abilities, while elderly invalids find it hard to go through advanced procedures which nurses require. This creates a gap between techniques that nurses consider necessary and those that patients’ families want to know about. In the third place, nurses are considerate towards patients and their families, get along with them cordially, and collaborate closely with home care specialists. To conclude, it is necessary that nurses have a clear notion of the situations which patients and their families are set in and confronted with in their every-day life at home, and by doing so, offer aids and assistance according to their desires and wishes.

Zenmaro Toki(1885-1980) is well-known both as a poet and as a translator of Tu Fu’s poetic works. After retiring from a newspaper company, he devoted himself to study on classical Chinese literature. He made remarkable achievements in this field after the Second World War. He wrote many scholarly essays on Tu Fu’s poems. These essays need to be read in a new light and deserve to be revalued on their merits.

Abstract:The principal aims of the present study were to elucidate differences by life stage and comparatively examine the utility of the model by Holland et al. used for analysis of the psychological progress in patients with breast cancer during the fight against the disease following the notification of cancer. We comparatively examined the behavior of patients with breast cancer using phases 1–3 of the model by Holland et al. to classify and categorize each psychological state. The results revealed the following points:1) with regard to the psychological process following notification of breast cancer, there were cases in which the patients passed from phases 1 and 2 to reach the phase 3 of "adaption" and cases in which the patients shifted to phase 3 without going through phases 1 and 2. In addition, individual differences were remarkable during the periods of each phase. The model of Holland et al. is useful as a reference in understanding the psychological process of breast cancer patients following notification of cancer, thereby making it possible to elucidate the characteristics of the individual psychological processes of patients with breast cancer. 2) In the case of young women, especially single women with no spouse, the psychological impact of "anxiety" "shock," "fear concerning the future," etc. was great. In particular, patients specifically manifested complex psychological anxiety and fear concerning damage to femininity and motherliness.That is, the psychological process following notification had a significant effect on life stages. 3) The results show that support by nearby family members, health care practitioners, and other persons who have experienced breast cancer contributes to the amelioration of the various anxieties and fears that breast cancer patients feel after notification and promotes adaptation.

This article is a case study of the U.S. defense budgeting for fiscal year 1991. The Cold War had just ended and the United States had to reconsider its defense strategy and budget due to this substantial change in the security environment. Moreover, financial constraints promoted political arguments between the George H. W. Bush Administration, the House of Representatives, and the Senate over the defense budget. My research questions are as follows: How do the political actors (administration and Congress) of the United States move for formulating the defense budget when there is a significant change in the security environment? Has the Congress assumed a lesser role in defense budgeting, especially since World War II, as most researchers, such as Samuel P. Huntington (in his well-known book The Soldier and the States), say? This article is a descriptive analysis of how the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1991 (NDAA 1991) was established. The bill was deliberated from January to November of 1990; analysis revealed that the Congress did play a leading role in establishing the defense budget when the security environment around the U.S. largely changed. This finding refutes the widely accepted theory that the Congress assumes a reserved attitude to defense budgeting.

In this essay the author is concerned with the development of Kant's philosophy in which the Critiques lead to the notions of God and religion, in particular reference to his analysis of the 'teleological judgment' in Critique of Judgment. Kant's discussion in this part of the work concerning what makes a human being really moral directs us toward a new phase of thinking beyond the general scheme of Critique of Practical Reason. On this new horizon of thought, a moral human being, in pursuing ultimate good, is supposed to be moving toward the goal of superlative good of humans. And this is exactly where God comes down to relate Himself with humans. It is this idea of the relation between God and humans which provides a key to Kant's perspective on religion (re-ligio).The relation between Divine Being and human beings is considered in terms of its logical structure against the background of the progress from the Critiques to Religion within the Boundaries of Mere Reason.

This paper explores the origins of the formation of industrial agglomeration to identify strategic trends in establishing new business facilities in regional Japan. The formation of agglomeration is often due to historical backgrounds; however, this study reveals that developing urban infrastructure in advance and leveraging human resources and existing industries unique to the locale can in effect lead to the establishment of new business facilities. This paper also shows corporate strategies capitalizing on the circulative clustering forces (forward linkage effects and backward linkage effects) that arise from the formation of agglomeration is critical for sustaining and developing industrial agglomeration. Considering the ongoing changes in international structures of division of labor, the paper views locating business facilities to a region is to be in part of the global supply chain, with areas in which the region is weak to be aggressively handed off to external economies (industrial outsourcing). Furthermore, the study also shows that promoting innovation and interaction with human capital outside the region are vital to ensure the competitive superiority of specialized industries of the region.

本稿は、ビジネス英語スピーチにおける「主要な概念メタファ」を定義するための新たな指標として、「時系列的支配性」を提起し、その意義を検証するものである。時系列的支配性は、従来の量的支配性・分布的支配性に続く第3の要素として、「スピーチの時間的推移」と「主要な概念メタファ」の関連を示す指標である。その提起および検証にあたり、本研究では、まず2010 年に発表された10 本のビジネススピーチを手作業で分析し、概念メタファの検索語リストを構築する。続いて、その検索語をもとに、コーパス分析による機械的処理と、手作業の確認作業を経て、全スピーチをメタファグラム分析によって時系列的に解析する。その上で、量的・分布的・時系列的の各分析データから、各スピーチの「主要な概念メタファ」を求め、それらを比較検証することで、時系列的支配性の存在意義を考察していく。検証研究の結果、「時系列的」という第3の支配性は、従来から実績のある量的支配性と一定の関連性を維持しつつも、分布的支配性からは独立した指標として機能することが明らかとなり、時系列的支配性の重要性が示された。

Japanese manufacturers changed their international strategy of increasing export of domestic products for one of expanding overseas production, in 1980s in most cases. Indeed their direct investments in othercountries still keep increasing, and yet on the other hand, forming strategic alliances in international operations has become a measure of great importance. This paper attempts, first of all, to review and examine a number of leading theories of business alliances. Then on the basis of this analysis, two cases of strategic alliances are considered: the alliances into which two Japanese companies have entered with overseas companies – Sumitomo Rubber Industries with Goodyear of USA, and Daikin Industries with Gree Appliances of China – in order to make clear the main features of and the distinctions between the alliances. And in view of the fact that these overseas partners are based in two separate home countries on largely different levels of development, special attention will be paid to what effects the differences of their respective home economies will have. In the process of analysis, several theories of strategic alliances are used, and are shown to be effective and valid methods of inquiry.

Abstract: This study aims at disclosing different stages of the psychological process which lung cancer patients pass through after they are notified of their cancer, in order to see if these stages are connected with the stages of the disease. From patients' own words and behaviors, recorded by themselves in their treatment reports, those which may reveal their psychological stages after notification are extracted and dissected in terms of the division of 'psychological states' defined as Phase I, II and III on the Massie & Holland model. As a result, three points come to light. Firstly, the disease stages, presence or absence of treatments or metastasis, affect psychological states. In the second place, “shock” and “denial” in Phase I and “distress”, “anxiety” and “fear” in Phase II last longer in patients on Stage IV than in those on Stage II. And lastly, immedately after the notification “efforts for adaptation” of Phase III appear more remarkably in patients on Stage II than in those on Stage IV.

A Physical Assessment Classes is designed on the basis of a theory of performance assessment. It is intended as a means of finding out ways of making more accurate measurements of how far the students have gone to acquire nursing skills. This study examines those main effects which a special program of the course had on the students concerned when it was conducted in April - July, 2014. When performance activities are really so interesting and attractive to students, and when the assessment standards and processes are disclosed, they can have a clear idea of what they need to know on their way to professional practices of nursing care. By critically examining themselves and evaluating one another, they can learn to apply their knowledge and skills in the most proper way that their situation allows. They can learn ways of improving themselves.

In this paper I focused on Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sunday services, Church Cantatas, and Catholicism in Leipzig in the 18th Century. First of all, I tried to examine the handwritten worship notes by Johann Christoph Rost, sexton at St. Thomas in Leipzig. Secondly, I treated of Bach’s Church Cantatas which were composed in the Leipzig era from 1723 to 1748 and I also investigated basic characteristics of Bach’s Church Cantatas in the 1720s BWV1, 1730s BWV51, and 1740s BWV69. Thirdly, I briefly touched on Catholicism as the subject of universal. And the reason I used Günther Stiller’s “Johann Sebastian Bach and Liturgical Life in Leipzig” (1982) is because this book includes concrete and credible expositions.

Macau is called Las Vegas of the Orient. Is it appropriate now that Macau's gambling revenues are actually bigger than those of its Nevada counterpart? Casino industry and tourism account for approximately 70% of the government annual revenue of Macau in 2012. Gambling industry in Macau has made rapid and remarkable development since Sociedade de Turismo e Diversoes de Macau was granted the monopoly rights to gambling in all forms in 1962. In this essay its economic history is considered in particular reference to the connection between casino industry and STDM.

This essay tries to examine those discussions on the propriety of adopting an open-door policy towards Japanese culture which were carried out in the South Korean Diet during the years 1994-2003.On October 8, 1998, a joint statement concerning “a new Japan-Korea [Korea-Japan] partnership towards the 21st century” was made by Kim Daejung and Keizo Obuchi (who were President of ROK and Prime Minister of Japan respectively). This was where the process of deregulating the introduction of Japanese culture into Korean cultural soil came to a decisive turning point. The open-door policy towards Japanese culture actually got started. It is to be noted that up to that year there had been vehement and serious discussions and arguments about the issue, and that after the joint announcement of 1998 discussions and arguments went on. During the period 1994-200, some argued against deregulating; others accepted the process of opening the door because of the inevitability of the cultural trends; still others stressed the need of suspending the judgment as it was too soon to determine the merit/demerit of the policy. In this essay the author considers these arguments and discussions in terms of the political and historical context of the period.In what political and historical conditions did those discussions and arguments occur? What changes did political and historical situations go through with the going on of the debates and controversies? This is what the author is going to investigate into.

Evaluating a firm's merit on the basis of its financial history alone is not enough to determine its potential.An increasing number of financial institutions are focusing attention on "knowledge asset management reports" when considering the value of a firm. Why are "intangibles" and "knowledge assets" of a firm attracting more and more attention? This is exactly what this paper examines in order to establish the importance of "knowledge asset management" in developing potentialities of a firm. As a matter of fact, the "knowledge assets" concept is becoming more popular than the accounting concept of "intangibles" in business. This study inquires into the origins of the "knowledge assets" concept, making clear the logical distinction between the two categories. Furthermore, the significance of successful "knowledge asset management" based on an accurate understanding and proper use of "knowledge assets" will be considered, together with a prospect of development of the "knowledge assets" concept in Japan.

This research is an investigation into the relationships between factors defining the context of each scene and behavior signaling for a request, making a contrastive analysis between two film remakes and theiroriginal films – the Japanese-original version of Shall We Dance? (2005) and the Hollywood-original version Ghost (2011) –.Focusing on urgency, obligation, cost, vertical distance, and intimacy, it is confirmed that urgency greatly affects request expressions both in Japanese and English. In Japanese, vertical distance and intimacy arereally important and higher status and intimate relations can result in avoidance of care in choosing of polite expressions, followed by obligation, when it is not a matter of great urgency, but in English, obligation andcost take precedence over relations between speaker and addressee.

Graham Greene (1904-1991), who is called a Catholic novelist, published Dr Fischer of Geneva or The Bomb Party (1980) when he was seventy six. Although the theme of the story focuses on the limitless greed of human being and the cruel image of almighty God of a man with power and wealth, it admits of various interpretations. This story consists of seventeen sections. Interestingly, the section number 13 is the dramatic turning point of the progression of the story itself and the life of Alfred Jones who is the main character as well as the narrator of this story. And at the scenes of the section number 13, such things as Jones's complicated feelings, signs of his happiness and indications of misfortune about his wife Anna-Luise are presented. In this paper, therefore, I tried to clarify the roles of several things, with focusing on the section number 13 in this story to find out the peculiarity and charms of Greene's literature.
