It is true in a certain sense that bodies are social phenomena, but they are not static. I will construct the sociality of bodies in the relations between the following two propositions.
1 ) Human beings are bodies, (the body as being)
2 ) Human beings have bodies, (the body as having) '
The body as being' means the immanency of bodies (being-in-the-world) , and 'the body as having' shows the transcendency of bodies. '
The body as being' and 'the body as having' stand for the ambiguity of bodies, but theoretically it may be possible to separate and to relate both each other in social demensions. Both work under certain conditions as 'the social device' on bodies. I call this social device the media in a wide sense.
The paradox of the body is led by the relations between 'the body as being' and 'the body as having'. For instance, 'the body as being' dose not appear as the subject until 'the body as having' is inserted into the social device, which is shown precisely in the Panopticon model of M. Foucalt.
M. McLuhan defined the media as 'the extension of bodies', which means not only the functional extensions as tools but also 'the implosion' of the central nervous system. The new electronic media creates the new realities which depend on the new relations between 'the body as being' and 'the body as having'. It means the paradox of the body in the new dimension.
Simuracres precede the realities, or the realities themselves become the results of the simulation, which Baudrillard shows as the process of the hyper-reality. But it's not the monotonous simulation. In the local and minute levels the tremor of the realities which results from the new paradox of the body develops.
In this paper, I will discuss the repetition of the paradox of the body in contemporary societies, and show the analytical framework of the dynamic processes on the 'simulation society'.
