Three subjects are studied for the vibration characteristics of laminated graphite-epoxy cylindrical shell. Firstly the eigen-value problem is exactly solved to obtain the natural frequency of layered composite cylindrical shell by use of Flugge type vibration equation. In the case of two layer crossply and angle-ply laminates the coupling effect decreases the fundamental natural frequency about 20%. For four layer antisymmetric cross-ply and angle-ply, the natural frequency is close to the one of the thickness-wise homogeneous cylindrical shell. However in the case of symmetric four layer crossply the lamination constitution unexpectedly affects the fundamental natural frequency. The natural frequency is explicitly obtained using Donnell type vibration equation of orthotropic cylindrical shell for the S2 boundary condition and the influence of lamination constitution is clarified. The optimum lamination constitutions for the highest fundamental natural frequency are disclosed. It is shown that the quasi-isotropic lamination is not optimal. The influence of lamination constitution on the nonlinear property of resonance curve for the fundamental natural frequency of the shell is analytically studied. It is concluded that the nonlinear property is softening for all laminations and the degree of the softening is stronger in the order of the circumferential layer alone, the ±45° angle-ply, the cross-ply, the quasi-isotropic and the axial alone.

Electrodeposition of Cu was conducted in a synthetic electrorefining solution to investigate the effect of gelatin, thiourea and chloride ions on the polarization curve for Cu deposition, morphology, texture, surface roughness and the throwing power of the deposited Cu. In a solution containing both gelatin and chloride ions, the cathode potential for Cu deposition was significantly polarized at current densities above 200A/m2, while the thiourea depolarized the potential for Cu deposition at 200 to 1000A/m2. In a solution containing the three additives, i.e. gelatin, thiourea and chloride ions, the potential for Cu deposition was polarized at 500A/m2. It is supposed that the synergistic effect of gelatin and chloride ions on the polarization prevailed over the depolarization effect of thiourea. In the Cu deposited at initial stage, the chloride ions promoted the field-oriented texture with the orientation of direction. However, Cu deposited at initial stage from the solution containing gelatin, thiourea and chloride ions was composed of both the inclined texture type and the epitaxial growth type of crystals. The surface roughness and throwing power of the deposited Cu was most improved in the solution containing gelatin, thiourea and chloride ions, showing the synergistic effect of three additives. The thiourea had an effect on decreasing the surface roughness of the deposited Cu, and chloride ions improved the throwing power of Cu.

The effect of equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) on the pitting corrosion resistance of Al and Al-Mg alloy was investigated by means of polarization curves in solutions containing 300 ppm of Cl- and by surface analysis. The potentials for pitting corrosion of Al and Al-Mg alloy were evidently shifted to the noble direction by ECAP process, indicating that this process improves resistance to pitting corrosion. SEM observation revealed that the pitting corrosion occurred near the impurity precipitates and the size of impurity precipitated decreased with ECAP process. The time-dependence of corrosion potential and the polarization resistance determined by AC impedance technique suggested that the formation rate of Al oxide films was increased with ECAP process. The improvement in pitting corrosion resistance of Al and Al-Mg by ECAP seems to be attributable to the decrease in the size of impurity precipitates and the increase in the formation rate of Al oxide films.

By using N, N-dimethylformamide(DMF), an aprotic polar solvent, the electrodeposition of lead from PbCl<sub>2</sub>-DMF and Pb(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>2</sub>-DMF solutions was studied. The deposits of lead gave rise to the welldefined dendrites, when the electrolysis was carried out in higher concentration bath and at higher current densities, while at lower current densities (-3mA/cm<sup>2</sup>), the deposits became dark-gray and smooth. The dendrites of lead were of 2D [110], 3D [110] and 2D [100] types. The deposits from PbCl<sub>2</sub>-DMF solutions were the isolated nuclei of the layer growth (hexagonal, tetragonal and trigonal deposits), when temperature was higher than 40°C. The deposits from Pb(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>2</sub>-DMF solutions were white powder when temperature was higher than 50°C, while at 100°C the dendrites were not observed. The X-ray analysis of the deposits of crystalline lead had well-defined diffraction patterns. By the addition of thiourea and 2-butyne-1, 4 diol to Pb(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>2</sub>-H<sub>3</sub>BO<sub>3</sub>-DMF baths, semi-bright and smooth lead deposits were obtained. They had fine grains in crystal structure and were found to have the strong preferred orientation of (220). The grain size of the deposit was 150-350Å. From these results the optimum condition for the electrolysis was as follows: Pb(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>2</sub>: 100g/<i>l</i>, H<sub>3</sub>BO<sub>3</sub>: 10g/<i>l</i>, (NH<sub>2</sub>)<sub>2</sub>CS: 4g/<i>l</i>, HOCH<sub>2</sub>C≡CCH<sub>2</sub>OH: 3g/<i>l</i>, temperature:room temperature, current density:0.5-1.0mA/cm<sup>2</sup>, plating time: 60min, current efficiency: ca 50%.

An analytical study has been carried out to clarify the mechanism of pogo. As a numerical example, the pogo instability of N-Launch Vehicle has been studied. The calculated result is in good agreement with the flight record for the occurrence time of pogo vibration. The following properties have been disclosed. (1) Main factors which govern the pogo occurrence are the mass ratio and the structural damping coefficient. (2) In the case of N-Vehicle, the pogo instability is mainly created at the oxidizer-structure loop with a short feed pipe. (3) The bubble frequency due to cavitation in the oxidizer pump plays an important role.The effectiveness of an accumulator at the pump inlet as a suppression device is also presented analytically.

頭がい骨を円筒形容器として中にほとんど非圧縮の柔らかい弾性体を詰めた頭がい模型を用いて, 有限要素法により頭がい衝撃問題の基礎的研究を行った. 脳はせん断弾性係数が体積弾性係数にくらべて非常に小さく従ってポアソン比が0. 5に近い材料なので, 普通の変位法では誤った結果を与える. この困難を克服するため Herrmann の変分原理を用いた. 内部弾性体の圧力応答に対してその体積弾性率と端板の変形の影響が大きいことを明らかにした.
