The structural behaviors and strength of actual pressure PET bottle have been investigated, mainly by experimental measurements under internal pressure. First, tensile tests of PET resin material for PET bottle were carried out in order to obtain the fundamental tensile properties and the stress-strain diagram. Then, the mechanical behaviors of PET bottle were found by strain measurements under internal pressures. Finally, burst tests were conducted for 21 PET bottles. In the present burst tests, resulted magnitudes of burst pressures were not so much scattered, within the range of 1. 9∼2. 3 MPa. Fractured shapes of bottles by bursting would be categorized in three kinds of I, L, X types. For trial, burst pressure evaluation for the bottle were made by applying the theoretical analysis of N. L. Svensson. The calculated bursting pressure and radial deflection were numerically near the experimental values. However, in further investigation for more rigorous solutions, the following items are to be studied: (1)The material properties including stress-strain diagram for the actual bi-axially oriented PET bottle itself formed by blow molding, not only PET resin material. (2)The development of analytical approach for large deformation to the range of bursting.

In the Rescue Robot Contest (ResCon), rescue dummies, which is called as ‘Damiyan’, are employed for competition evaluation. Rescue teams are required to rescue Damiyan gently and quickly. In addition, it is also required to identify the signs that are presented, and these are the evaluation items. Therefore, Damiyan needs various sensors to quantify “neck bending”, “pressure on body”, “posture” and “impact” as evaluation indicators of gentleness. In addition, the functions of “presenting color”, “uttering sound” and “presenting two-dimensional code” are implemented as the presentation of signs to be identified. To achieve this, we have developed a new Damiyan that incorporates the microprocessor BlueNinja as a core system for sensing, communication, and overall system control. In addition, an airtight body was manufactured to measure the grip strength, which measures the pressure on the body. The body is molded using a 3D printer and flexible filaments, and the surface is coated with a solvent to ensure airtightness. By using this new Damiyan, we achieved stable operation and reduction of management operations. In this report, details of the concept, the policy and the process of developing this newer Damiyan are described.

The purpose of this study is to propose an effective model to estimate the effective thermal conductivity of compacts made from magnesium alloy particles, considering the effects of particle size, temperature and pressure. In order to investigate the influence of the particle size, six kinds of particles were prepared in which the cross sectional area was different. The test particles made from AZ91D were poured into a compression vessel and then a given pressure was applied to the piston of vessel for six hours under constant temperature condition. After compression, effective thermal conductivity of compacts were measured by steady state comparative-longitudinal heat flow method. The numerical calculation considering two-dimensional steady heat conduction was also conducted by using the actual cross section of compacts. Test results showed that the effective thermal conductivity of compacts were increased with increase of applied pressure and temperature elevation. Calculation results also revealed that by considering the actual cross section of compacts, the effective thermal conductivity could be well estimated when filling fraction is lower than 0.8. However, when filling fraction is exceed 0.8, the effect of thermal contact resistance between particles on thermal conductivity is not negligible. The experimental equation of effective thermal conductivity of compacts was determined to discuss the effects of cross sectional area of particles.

In order to investigate the flow of molten metal in a cavity of a die, experimental simulation was carried out by using water flow model. The experimental cavity was constructed of a backward step configuration for test zone, in which flow behavior and air exhaust process from the cavity were investigated. With rib material installed down the step, its effect on air exhaust promotion was examined for various flow velocities. The main results obtained are as follows : Air exhaust from the cavity is remarkably promoted by installation of rib because the strong turbulence around the rejoining potion of two different flows, which are separated by the rib at the upstream, broke rapidly the trapped air into small bubbles. The time taken to complete air exhaust process is in inverse proportion to the flow velocity in the high velocity region, while it is proportion to the flow velocity to the -2.27th power in the low velocity region.

Project-based learning (PBL) is effective for teaching students about the engineering design process, as it leads to higher educational effectiveness among lower-grade students. In this paper, we introduced an original PBL program that involved the use of an autonomous mobile robot in a rescue robot contest, and we assessed its educational effectiveness among several categories of students who participated in the contest. The results demonstrated that essential abilities for information engineering could be acquired by participating in the contest, and both the PBL program and contest provided a good educational environment for lower-grade students.

画像の拡大・高解像化のために様々な画素補間手法が提案・利用されているが,より高精度な拡大画像を得る手法についての要求はいまだ根強い.本稿では,画素値をその局所領域のエネルギーとみなし,それを保存する新しい画素補間手法を提案する.まず,画素値が定義されている座標に対して,画像原点とその座標で決まる領域の画素値の積分を定義する.この積分値は,その座標における画素値とその近傍の3つの座標における積分値から決定できる.そして,各局所領域における積分値の分布を,その領域を規定する4座標における積分値を制御点として,B-Spline曲面で補間する.これにより,画素値は完全に保存され,局所領域内の任意の座標における画素値は,その補間曲面の偏微分として得られる.検証実験の結果,従来広く用いられている画素補間手法に比べて良好な画質の拡大画像が得られることを確認した.
