A difference of alignment of rear foot between lying down and standing in patients who have sports disorders is often observed. The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between the alignment of the rear foot and activities of ankle flexor muscles during the calf-raise. We identified an alteration of the alignment of the rear foot between the prone position to standing by measuring leg heel angle under each condition, and classified subjects into three groups (varus, neutral, valgus) according to angle alteration. In addition, we measured activities of the tibialis posterior muscle, soleus muscle, medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle and lateral head of the gastrocnemius muscle during the calf-raise with surface electromyography. The varus group showed significantly greater activation of the tibialis posterior muscle than the valgus group. Activation of the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle displayed similar findings with an increase from the valgus group to the neutral and varus groups. These results suggest that if alignment of the rear foot in standing is more varus than in lying prone, sports disorders are potentially more likely in therapeutic calf-raise exercises and in running during training.

Multi-fidelity analysis has been used for reducing the calculation cost of evaluating the design solution, which is the most costly process in design optimization. In general, multi-fidelity analysis is applied to problems with continuous design variables, which are suitable to construct an approximate model of design space such as the response surface. On the other hand, combinatorial optimization problems, e.g., layout design, are difficult to apply the conventional multi-fidelity analysis, since the response surface cannot be constructed due to the property of the design variables. In this paper, we propose a multi-fidelity optimization method independent of the response surface and a simple analysis model for the method, and apply them to multi-disciplinary optimal layout design problem which is a complicated combinatorial optimization problem. The proposed analytical model, which adopts the concept of the explicit method, realizes for reducing the calculation time by simplifying the physical phenomenon. Then, the multi-fidelity optimization method is constructed by combining the proposed analysis model with the thermal network method which is a well-known thermal analysis method. We confirm that there is a strong correlation between the calculation result of the proposed analysis model and of a CAE software, and show that the proposed analysis model is suitable as a low fidelity model. The effectiveness of the proposed optimization method is demonstrated through numerical experiments.

現在,高度道路交通システム(Intelligent Transport Systems:ITS)及びその1構成システムであるAHS(Advanced cruise-assist Highway Systems)についての研究が盛んである.このAHSを構成する一つとして,道路カラー画像から道路標識を抽出・認識し運転者に注意を喚起するシステムが考えられている.本論文では,実用的な処理時間で円形道路標識を抽出可能な新しい手法を提案する.提案手法は,入力となる道路カラー画像から道路標識に使用されている色(特定色)を判別した後,その分布状況によって抽出処理の対象領域を限定することにより,処理時間の大幅な削減を図っている.更に,抽出領域に占める特定色の面積比率を利用することにより,抽出精度の向上と更なる処理時間の短縮を図っている.53枚の道路カラー画像を用いた評価実験の結果,94.7%の高抽出率を達成するとともに,平均処理時間が約2.18秒とほぼ実用的な処理時間を達成できることが示された.

The Rescue Robot Contest is one of the robot contests concerning lifesaving in urban disasters. In this contest, loads of rescue dummies simulating disaster victims, and contest progression status are presented to audiences, and team members operating robots. This presentation is important for both robot activity evaluation and production effect. For these purposes, a game management system for Rescue Robot Contest is originally constructed and operated. In this system, a database system is employed as base system. And this system's role is for both recording all data and events, and real-time processing for the presentation. In this paper, design and implementation of the tables and built-in functions of the database which is foundation of this system are presented. For real-time processing, embedded functions and trigger functions are implemented. These functions generate unique latest records into specific tables which stores only latest data for quick access.

The daily routine of changing clothes and underclothes for patients undergoing physical therapy can sometimes be a problem. Clothes of the patients need to be changed several times a day, for example, when going outdoors and for other functional and social purposes. Changing clothes can be a problem for patients, depending on the kind of clothing, the patients' posture, and the method for changing clothes. Detaching, removing, or raising and lowering of clothes can also be a problem for patients, depending on whether the patient is lying down, sitting, or standing. This poses the question: How do physical therapists guide patients regarding changing clothes and underclothes? This study examined the operations of detaching, removing of clothes, and raising and lowering of underclothes. The study observed the normal operation of changing underclothes, using healthy people as subjects. The participants were videotaped. Additionally, the participants' centers of pressure (COP) were determined using a stabilimeter, and electrical muscle activity of the supporting leg was monitored by surface electromyography.

Changing underclothes is an activity that everyone performs every day and there is a lack of objective information derived from observations of people performing this activity. Therefore, a physical therapist must rely on his or her own experience while guiding a person who is changing their underclothes. However, the physical therapist should observe and understand the movements involved. In this study we examined the activity of the abdominal muscle group in healthy persons during a change of underclothes. Observations on the angle of inclination of the pelvis in the long-sitting and chair-sitting positions were made. Integrated electromyographic values of the abdominal muscle group tended to decrease with increasing inclination angle of the pelvis. Our results suggest that the angle of the pelvis during a change of underclothes affects the activity of the abdominal muscle group.

We had a patient with a tear of rectus femoris during running. As a characteristic finding, a big hematoma was identified by ultrasonography. The patient wanted to return to sports activities as soon as possible, because she was a competitor in an important game in a pennant race. So, we selected acupuncture therapy for improvement of hematoma. Especially, we chose electro-acupuncture, which is thought to be effective for early healing. As a result of electro-acupuncture therapy for three weeks, the hematoma was decreased however muscle activity had declined as measured by surface electromyography. Therefore we gave intermittent continuous wave pulse stimulation of 30 Hz to the rectus femoris. After the stimulation, muscle contraction was improved. The patient had no physical findings and returned to sports activities.

In the Rescue Robot Contest (ResCon), rescue dummies, which is called as ‘Damiyan’, are employed for competition evaluation. Rescue teams are required to rescue Damiyan gently and quickly. In addition, it is also required to identify the signs that are presented, and these are the evaluation items. Therefore, Damiyan needs various sensors to quantify “neck bending”, “pressure on body”, “posture” and “impact” as evaluation indicators of gentleness. In addition, the functions of “presenting color”, “uttering sound” and “presenting two-dimensional code” are implemented as the presentation of signs to be identified. To achieve this, we have developed a new Damiyan that incorporates the microprocessor BlueNinja as a core system for sensing, communication, and overall system control. In addition, an airtight body was manufactured to measure the grip strength, which measures the pressure on the body. The body is molded using a 3D printer and flexible filaments, and the surface is coated with a solvent to ensure airtightness. By using this new Damiyan, we achieved stable operation and reduction of management operations. In this report, details of the concept, the policy and the process of developing this newer Damiyan are described.

We recommend the use of resistance training for patients who present with postoperative muscle weakness. The purpose of this training is to improve and prevent muscle weakness. The drawback of resistance training exercises is that the patient needs to understand the training and its effects; if executed incorrectly, resistance training is ineffective. Furthermore, if an incorrect exercise program is followed, trauma may occur. Therefore, physical therapists should inform the patients of the relationship between the necessity of resistance training and the ability to perform activities of daily living. Furthermore, the physical therapist should have personally experienced resistance training to understand its effects. This study provides important information for patients undergoing resistance training. In this paper, I would like to report the effective method of resistance training.

We report a case of right hemiparesis after cerebral infarction, who was not able to walk without both lateral bending of trunk and elevation of pelvis on the unaffected side. In the evaluation, hypotonia of the paralyzed side obliquus abdominis muscles and gluteus muscles was confirmed, clearly indicating hypertonia of the paralyzed lumbar muscles. We approached the paralyzed side obliquus abdominis muscles group and gluteus muscles group, with the objective of suppressing paralysis of the lumbar muscles. After 2 weeks of physical therapy, the elevation of the pelvis on the unaffected side was decreased and the side movement of pelvis increased. We suggest physical therapy of CVA patients who have compensatory hypertonia should approach hypotonia of muscles, with the object of suppressing hypertonia.

Project-based learning (PBL) is effective for teaching students about the engineering design process, as it leads to higher educational effectiveness among lower-grade students. In this paper, we introduced an original PBL program that involved the use of an autonomous mobile robot in a rescue robot contest, and we assessed its educational effectiveness among several categories of students who participated in the contest. The results demonstrated that essential abilities for information engineering could be acquired by participating in the contest, and both the PBL program and contest provided a good educational environment for lower-grade students.

画像の拡大・高解像化のために様々な画素補間手法が提案・利用されているが,より高精度な拡大画像を得る手法についての要求はいまだ根強い.本稿では,画素値をその局所領域のエネルギーとみなし,それを保存する新しい画素補間手法を提案する.まず,画素値が定義されている座標に対して,画像原点とその座標で決まる領域の画素値の積分を定義する.この積分値は,その座標における画素値とその近傍の3つの座標における積分値から決定できる.そして,各局所領域における積分値の分布を,その領域を規定する4座標における積分値を制御点として,B-Spline曲面で補間する.これにより,画素値は完全に保存され,局所領域内の任意の座標における画素値は,その補間曲面の偏微分として得られる.検証実験の結果,従来広く用いられている画素補間手法に比べて良好な画質の拡大画像が得られることを確認した.

GPにおける島モデルの研究は遺伝的アルゴリズム(GA)に比べてその報告数は少なく,また過去の研究よりその効果はGAより良好な結果ではないことが示されている.本報告ではGPの探索の性質に沿ってGP独自の島モデルとして異文化型島モデルを提案しその有効性をいくつかの問題に対して適用することで実験的に示す.
