Yamagishi (1998) predicted that the level of general trust in urban areas would be higher than in rural areas based on the emancipation theory of trust. According to this theory, communities in urban areas, in which both social uncertainty and opportunity cost are high should foster highlevel general trust. However, there is no difference in the level of general trust between urban areas and rural areas according to recent surveys conducted in Japan. These results contradict Yamagishi's prediction. This study examines whether and why there is a difference between urban and rural areas in the generating process of general trust. I conducted a mail survey in an urban area (Itabashi Ward in Tokyo) and a rural area (the former Tochio area of Niigata Prefecture) in order to examine the cause of this phenomenon. As a result, some of the analyses suggest that the emancipation theory of trust is likely to be applicable in urban areas; on the other hand, different trust-generating processes are more likely in rural areas.

A decline of the voting rate becomes conspicuous in Japan in recent years. There is a movement which tries to improve the governance and increase of political participation through participation to community activity according to Putnam (1993). This paper clarifies empirically the impact of the attitudes and behavior of community residents on the voting behavior. We conducted questionnaire survey toTama-Area Residents in order to examine the effect of the impact of the local political environment on the attitudes and behavior of community residents. Furthermore, we compared the voting behavior with four group's significant difference based on Age groups, on attitudes about local governance. The causal structure is identified by using the multiple group Structural Equation Modeling between four groups.

公開データ利用促進の任務を担う情報・システム研究機構データサイエンス共同利用基盤施設のプロジェクトの一部として,2018 年3 月13 日「第2 回人間・社会データ構造化シンポジウム」が開催された.特に,社会調査データの公開における個人情報保護等の法的規制と倫理的指針について,同施設の社会データ構造化センターの法律アドバイザーである牧野二郎弁護士により,一般公開の特別講義が行われた.講演に先立ち,同センターの研究者たちとの協議を経て,牧野総合法律事務所により講演資料が用意された.本稿は,筆者らがその資料を改稿し,シンポジウムでの討議や,2018 年5 月よりEU で施行されているGeneral Data Protection Regulation(一般データ保護規則)など関連資料やその後の推移の確認などを含め,官民学の社会調査関係者向けに概説したものである. 現実の法律の執行は,各研究者の解釈や意図とは必ずしも完全には一致しないこともあり得るが,本稿は実証的データに基づく人文社会科学の発展や政策立案を促進するための参考としてまとめた.

Genome editing is being applied in various fields of life sciences, such as medicine, agriculture, food and energy. Regarding the regulatory status of genome editing in Japan, policies are being issued by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and the Ministry of the Environment, and applications to the fields of agriculture and food are being widely considered. However, there has hardly been any explicit discussion on the differences between applications for plants and animals. We argue there are several points that should be taken into account. In this paper, we clarify the unique regulatory issues that separate genome edited animals from plants, in particular, safety assessment, consumer perception, and animal welfare.

耐久消費財の所有状況によって、階層帰属意識を説明しようとする試みが従前よりなされてきたが、その説明力は低いことが指摘されていた。このような説明力の低さは、耐久消費財の経済的価値の側面に着目する従来の分析では、多元的な要因によって評価されるようになった帰属階層を、十分に捉えられなくなったことに起因すると推察される。そこで本研究では、耐久消費財の所有を尋ねた項目へ、情報を縮約することを目的とした複数の多変量解析を適用して異なる側面についての情報を抽出し、それらのうち階層帰属意識を説明するのに有効なのは、どのようなものか検証を行った。また、SSM95とSSP2015という異なる時点で実施された二つの社会調査を用いて、分析結果の時点間比較も行い、階層帰属意識の規定因に時代的な変化が生じたのかについても検討した。

Agricultural genome editing is now entering a practical application stage. However, hitherto, there has been little research into or comparisons of international consumer understanding of these genome editing innovations. Therefore, a comparative Japanese, American, and German study was conducted using the same web-based questionnaire to elucidate the issues surrounding genome editing governance, the current state of regulations, and personal opinions about the use of agricultural genome editing technology. It was found that the Japanese felt that there should be strict regulations, and the Germans had the greatest concern about the use of the technology.

Yamagishi & Yamagishi は,アメリカと比べて日本では一般的信頼が低いことを示したうえで,日本社会で広く見られる長期的なコミットメント関係が,一般的信頼の欠如をもたらしたと考察した. これに対して本研究は,「日本人の国民性調査」の二次分析を通じて,日本におけるコミットメント関係への選好が過去35 年ほどの間に一般的信頼の水準に強い影響を及ぼしたという仮説に疑問を投げかけるものである. なお,分析からは,一般的信頼と以下のような事柄との関連性が示唆された. ①一般的信頼は「年齢」によって弱い正の影響を受けるが,「教育」によって強い正の影響を受ける.したがって,教育機会の拡大と政治的関心の広がりによる「認知動員」の上昇や日本社会の高齢化の過程は,一般的信頼の向上をもたらした可能性がある.②都市化の影響については,依然としてあいまいなままであった. ③「性別」について、初期の調査時点では女性の一般的信頼は低かったが,1990 年頃になるとこのような性差は消失した. ただし上記の変数は,いわゆる「失われた10 年」や2008 年の世界的な経済危機の影響によって生じたと考えられる,1990~2008 年の一般的信頼の低下を説明するものではなかった.
