本稿では, 歴史や文化を含む社会経済的・環境的要因をも考慮しながら,環境配慮に関する人々の行動が実効性を持つようなメカニズムを探索する中で, 現在の「環境問題」自体が内包する問題や課題について考察を巡らせる. 特に, 常に現実の政策立案と密接に研究を推進していた林知己夫による人々の意識の表層と基底の区別や意識調査一般についての知見にも留意し,環境問題について具体的に実効性のある方策とは如何にあるべきかに思いを巡らせる.

公開データ利用促進の任務を担う情報・システム研究機構データサイエンス共同利用基盤施設のプロジェクトの一部として,2018 年3 月13 日「第2 回人間・社会データ構造化シンポジウム」が開催された.特に,社会調査データの公開における個人情報保護等の法的規制と倫理的指針について,同施設の社会データ構造化センターの法律アドバイザーである牧野二郎弁護士により,一般公開の特別講義が行われた.講演に先立ち,同センターの研究者たちとの協議を経て,牧野総合法律事務所により講演資料が用意された.本稿は,筆者らがその資料を改稿し,シンポジウムでの討議や,2018 年5 月よりEU で施行されているGeneral Data Protection Regulation(一般データ保護規則)など関連資料やその後の推移の確認などを含め,官民学の社会調査関係者向けに概説したものである. 現実の法律の執行は,各研究者の解釈や意図とは必ずしも完全には一致しないこともあり得るが,本稿は実証的データに基づく人文社会科学の発展や政策立案を促進するための参考としてまとめた.

This study focuses on the similarities and differences of the work values among the peoples studies in our East Asia Value Survey conducted during 2002-2004. It shows useful aspects of cross-national comparison on the East Asia.Some researchers consider that the East Asia is under the influence of Confucianism, as the western countries under the influence of Christianity. It is said that scholars and civil servants are more respected than practical workers in Confucian ethics. Therefore, Maoism in China emphasized practical workers (farmers and labors) more respected. On the other hand, Confucian ethics of Japan was accepted among samurai (warrior)'s ethics at Edo era, may have been lost in the stream of democratization after Meiji era and in the reorganization after World War II. The questionnaire of our East Asia Value Survey included two open questions about the occupation: “What occupation do you respect most ?”; “What is the occupation you yourself would like to have ?” The results of these responses indicate that the three categories as “Teacher”, “Medical Doctor” and “None or Don't Know” are useful criteria for the comparison among East Asian Peoples.

本研究課題は、『源氏物語』における写本の単語表記という問題から、さらに大きな日本語日本文化の表記の問題を浮かび上がらせることとなった。当初の平仮名や漢字表記の違いというミクロの視点が、テキストにおける漢字表記の増加現象、またその逆の、漢字主体テキストの平仮名テキスト化という現象へと展開する過程で、テキストにおける漢字使用の変貌も「表記情報学」のテーマとなることが明らかになった。「文字の表記」は「文化の表記」「思想の表記」へとつながっている。「何が書かれているか」という始発点から「如何に書かれているか」に至る「表記情報学」は、今後も持続させるべき「如何に」の研究なのである。

This paper is an essay on nonrespondent bias in statistical random sampling surveys. In particular, it focuses on the personalities of respondents and nonrespondents in survey cooperation. First, I review previous relevant research on nonrespondent bias and outline the main points of the nonrespondent bias problem. Next, focusing on items related to interpersonal trust, I analyze personality differences between cooperative and non-cooperative respondents using time series data from the Japanese National Character Survey and its related surveys. I then present rules of thumb that may be useful for survey researchers dealing with nonrespondent bias. Finally, I discuss future issues. Particular mention will be made of social disparities in electoral voting and polling, i.e., people who tend to drop out of electoral voting and polling.

The main objective of this paper is to investigate East & South East Asian peoples' views on Japanese as represented in the response data of the Japanese census 1997-98 by the National Institute for Japanese Language. Firstly, we summarize the historical and social backgrounds of those 10 Asian countries under investigation, concerning their conditions of language learning. Secondly, we analyze their images on Japanese with respect to certain five linguistic dimensions as well as the relationships between their images about Japanese, Japan, and the Japanese. The result shows that these factors are closely related to each other. Thirdly, we show that most Asian countries expect their further advancement in the relationships with Japan in economy, but that this may not necessarily lead to the rapid increase of learners of Japanese. Finally, we suggest some possibility about the near future development of East & South East Asian zone.

世論調査の「回収率の低下」が問題となって久しく,多くの議論が展開されてきた.しかし一方で,世論調査と他の調査との適正な分類や各調査の目的に応じた課題への対処がなされていない懸念がある.この背景には,各分野で調査に従事している人々が,先人が築き上げてきた調査の歴史と理論と実践の現場を必ずしも把握できていないことをあるのではと推察させる. 本論文では,調査方法論を根本より再考することにより,世論調査と他の調査を区別し,今日の調査研究の課題を考える上での示唆を試みる.1 節で問題提起をする.その問題の解決を念頭に,2 節で世論調査の歴史を振り返り,3 節で海外の世論調査の方法について概観する.4 節では確率論の基礎の数学的定義を確認する.これらを考慮しながら,5 節では調査に関する用語の意味を再確認し,6 節では調査の分類に応じた課題に対して提言を試みる.最後に7 節で将来の展開へコメントする.

改正臓器移植法が本年(2010年)7月から全面施行されたが,わが国における臓器移植の現状や脳死の認識には,生命観等の社会的・文化的要因が大きく影響しているとされる.本稿では,筆者らの「医療と文化の連関に関する統計科学的研究」における日本と,欧米(アメリカ,ドイツ,フランス,イギリス)及びアジア(韓国及び台湾)における社会意識調査結果を比較分析した.特に臓器移植・脳死の質問項目について,属性や生命観(宗教,信頼感等)などとクロス集計を行い,臓器移植・脳死に関する認識や行動に係る文化差について検討した.その結果,日本では若い世代,高学歴の人々ほど臓器移植について肯定的な傾向が認められた.脳死については日本では「(どのようなものか)わからない」とする割合が欧米諸国に比べて高いことが特徴的であった.以上から,わが国における脳死・臓器移植に関する情報の発信の必要性が示唆された.

1970 年代後半に林知己夫が中心となり企画した日本人の基底意識を探る調査は,「お化け調査」 と呼ばれている.お化け,妖怪,超自然ともいうべきものの捉え方を尋ねる質問で,社会一般の様々な意識や意見の根底をなす 「合理・非合理」 の考え方を捉えるものとして,その後,原子力に関する意識調査などでも用いられてきた.2000 年以降,アジア・太平洋地域の国際比較調査でも用いており,国・地域の特徴についても触れる.The set of survey research Chikio Hayashi and his associates have conducted in the late 1970's in Tokyo and Yonezawa to delve into such matters as the religious mind, traditional attitude, and feelings for supernatural phenomena is commonly known as the "ghost research". It was postulated that by asking people about their feelings toward various matters regarded as "supernatural" such as ghosts and spirits, one would create a proxy measure for the degree to which a given respondent possesses a "rational" or "non-rational" mindset - which in turn is to be regarded as one of the fundamental elements of personality that influence his or her thoughts and behavior. The measurement has then been used in other surveys as those studying the attitudes toward nuclear power. After the year 2000 it has also been adopted for the international comparative surveys in the Asia-Pacific region, the notable observations of which we like to discuss in this paper by country or region.

This paper presents some notes on question items and psychological scales used in social surveys. We review mainly the longitudinal and cross-national comparative survey data collected by the Institute of Statistical Mathematics over half a century, focusing several items concerning subjective social class, sense of satisfaction, and sense of trust as practical examples. In particular, we note on meaningfulness, appropriateness, and stability of psychological scaling on question items as well as quality of statistical representative sampling, as the necessary conditions of scientific research. These notes may suggest how to improve the studies on psychological scaling of social surveys which contradictory results are frequently reported due to misunderstandings on sampling and scaling.

急変する世界情勢を考慮し、特に日本と他の東アジアやその周辺諸国の人々の価値観、対人的信頼感など人間関係に関する意識、自然観や生命観など、各国の人々の意見を、偏らずに集約する統計的方法にもとづいて面接調査を遂行した。政治体制と国民性との交絡など多様な側面が明らかなってきたが、特に、洋の東西を問わず、「家族の大切さ」の普遍的価値が浮き彫りとなった。我々は、これを「文化の多様体解析」としてまとめあげた。
