The purpose of this research is to investigate the meaning and effects of imitation in preschoolers' body expression. In our previous researches, we considered how preschool children create stories in a body expression play. Through these studies, it had been shown that imitation helps the development of the ability to create original expressions. We analyzed the cases and classified the patterns of imitation. Imitation of preschoolers during body expression could be divided in four patterns. (1) A child is seeking the chance and timing to begin moving. (2) A child enjoys mimicking some movement and, through it, communicating with other children. (3) A child is self-conscious of his movements and image. (4) A child is taking in an image or an idea of a movement new to him. It seems appropriate to not judge one of the four patterns as superior, but to understand that all four serve as a starting point for creative expression.

本研究では,幼児期における「身体的な感性」という概念の有効性を検討した。そのために,特に,模倣された子どもに着目し,そこから広がる子ども間の身体による相互行為を焦点とした。幼稚園における筆者の観察によって収集された事例,保育者を対象とした調査によって得られた事例を,質的,量的に分析考察した。その結果として,(1)模倣された子どもにもたらされる身体による模倣の機能,(2)身体による模倣が相互行為に果たす役割,(3)3歳,4歳,5歳における身体的な相互行為の発達的特徴,が明らかにされた。

This work aims to define the concept of "Kansei," or sensitivity in young children through an evaluation scale based on the development process. In Part I, the concept of Kansei was classified into three main categories, 28 sub-categories and 64 items based on a questionnaire completed by kindergarten and day nursery teachers. Finally, the 31 most relevant items were selected to be used for an evaluation scale. In Part II, the concept of Kansei was divided into three different factors based on the analysis of data collected in another questionnaire: factor 1: original sensibility and creativity, factor 2: active response, and factor 3: emotional and moral empathy. These three factors include 26 items. Using these three factors and 26 items, a scale was invented to evaluate young children's sensitivities. In Part III, the validity of the scale was examined and the result verified its high reliability. This invented evaluation scale can be used for understanding the richness of young children's sensitivities from their behaviors.

It is said that there has been a decline in the scholastic ability of university students in Japan, and the Japanese ability of those students today has declined as well. With this in mind, Nakamori and Yamada conducted research into the ability of students at Toyohashi University of Technology to read and write kanji in 2005. And we announced the results in the article. Therefore, we strongly felt the necessity to conduct research into the Japanese ability of students including kanji ability. So we conducted research on the ability of students at Toyohashi University of Technology to read and write kanji, proverbs, honorifics, kanji idioms, kanji radical identification, kanji stroke order, etc in 2006. The results of this research are presented in this bulletin and are divided into four separate article.
