In horses with chronic laminitis, an abnormal horny structure called lamellar wedge, is generated between the hoof wall and the laminar epidermis. To be able to manage horses with chronic laminitis correctly, more information about the pathological state of this abnormal horn is required. The aim of this study was to collect and analyze objective morphological data about the abnormal horn in order to understand its morphology and development. In the study, the abnormal horn was grossly visible on the sagittal hoof section from approximately 20 days after the onset of disease. In the histological observations, the structural characteristics of this abnormal horn were similar to the white line tissue, suggesting it is an ectopic white line. Mean value of the cross-sectional area of the abnormal horn against the distal phalanx section area (A/D) was 0.29 cm2 SD ± 0.14 and it finally showed an eight-fold increase over the mean value of normal white line section area against the distal phalanx section area. In conclusion, a large amount of the ectopic white line is thought to be finally able to inhibit normal hoof wall growth, so that it should be resected at the optimum time when would be after one month from the onset of the disease.

この講演ではまず、記録文書研究と心理学者が行った実験研究を用いて、目撃者がおかす誤りの深刻さについての最近の研究を検討する。そして、人物同一性に関する目撃証言における間違いの原因についての最近のよく知られた実験研究およびメタ分析研究を展望する。ここで報告する研究が焦点を当てたのは、犯罪、犯罪者および目撃者のさまざまな特徴、それから犯罪後に起きたこと、警察が用いる同一性証言の聴取手続き、および裁判官や陪審員による目撃証言の正確さの評価である。とくに注目したのは、逮捕写真集、似顔絵と合成写真、単独面通し、ラインナップなどの使用、および目撃者に対する教示などの手続きが、証言の正確さに与える影響についてである。最後に、無実の人を有罪にしないため、米国の心理学者たちが提案した手続き上の変更と、その提案への警察・司法当局の反応について、考察したい。

Toxoplasmosis, caused by Toxoplasma gondii, is one of the most common parasitic diseases worldwide. The GRA7 of T. gondii (TgGRA7) is an essential component of the parasitophorous vacuole (PV) and PV membrane surrounding the tachyzoites and the cyst wall of the bradyzoites. While it has been widely employed as antigen for ELISA, there is only one study that has reported its potential as antigen for immunochromatographic test (ICT) in pigs. There is no study yet documenting its potential for ICT serodiagnosis of T. gondii infection in cats. In this study, we assessed the efficacy of an ICT using TgGRA7 in the detection of Toxoplasma infections in 100 cats and compared the results with iELISAs using TgGRA7 and lysate antigens of T. gondii strains, RH, PLK, and VEG. Our results revealed that TgGRA7-ICT is a reliable test for the diagnosis of anti-T. gondii antibodies in cats, producing comparable results as conventional serological methods. This study is the first report on the use of TgGRA7 as ICT antigen for the serodiagnosis of T. gondii infection in cats.

Objectives: To compare the ergogenic effects of back squats, deadlifts, and hip thrusts. Design: Pilot randomized-controlled trial Methods: In order to determine the feasibility of such a large training study, a pilot study was carried out with 26 male and female participants (age = 22.15 ± 2.2 years; height = 180.17 ± 8.37 cm; body mass = 87.27 ± 15.72 kg). Subjects performed squats (n = 8), hip thrusts (n = 8), deadlifts (n = 6), or nothing (control) (n = 4) for three training sessions a week, for six weeks; thereafter, measures of sprinting performance, vertical jump, broad jump, strength, and change of direction were compared to baseline. Results: This pilot study was carried out successfully. Effect-sizes, medians, and interquartile ranges for all possible comparisons have been presented for power analyses. Conclusion: Although all of the studied interventions show promise, larger investigations are necessary in order to draw more definitive, applicable conclusions.

A sterically protected biradical species, 1-tert-butyl-3-methyl-2,4-bis(2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3-diphosphacyclobutane-2,4-diyl was allowed to react with tris(4-bromophenyl)ammoniumyl hexachloroantimonate as an oxidant and the product was analyzed by EPR to show that the biradical was oxidized to give the corresponding radical cation species. The structure of the cation radical was also supported by ab initio calculations on a model compound.
