Degradation diagnosis is aimed at preventing unexpected failure and extending the service life of electric power apparatuses. It is, however, necessary to investigate the economic feasibility of degradation diagnosis, because the life-cycle cost of cable maintenance changes with the diagnostic parameters such as diagnosis cost, diagnosis interval and replacement criterion. In this paper, based on the actual data of water-tree degradation, we proposed a method of life-cycle-cost evaluation and evaluated the economic effect of degradation diagnosis. We also discussed the economic feasibility of practical nondestructive diagnosis of 6.6 kV XLPE cable, i. e. DC leakage current measurement and residual charge measurement, and compared the economic effects of these methods. As a result, the residual charge measurement is economically feasible and has higher effectiveness than the DC leakage current measurement.

The deterioration diagnosis for XLPE cables using low-frequency voltage has been confirmed that it is able to detect not only bridged water trees but also un-bridged water trees. However, its degraded detecting performance has not been proven.In this paper, we examined the properties of a DC leakage current and a low-frequency loss current through the use of cables with different degrees of deterioration, and studied the performance of each measurement in detecting water-tree deterioration.As a result, it has been confirmed that for a water tree that has bridged an insulator, it is possible to detect deterioration in both the DC leakage-current measurement and the low-frequency loss-current measurement. On the other hand, for a water tree that has not bridged an insulator, although deterioration signals were not obtained in the DC leakage-current measurement, as is generally known, it has been ascertained that deterioration can be detected in the low-frequency loss current measurement.The above results has made it clear that the result obtained by the method of combining low-frequency method with DC leakage current method is high reliability.

The triggered vacuum gap (TVG) is a closing switch for generating large current pulse and can work in the wide range of voltage for several kV to tens kV. Main electrodes are made of Ag-WC. One of main electrode has a hole for trigger electrode (Mo). The switching time is short, if the polarity of the holed-electrode is negative. It is called polarity effect. We devised a crowbar circuit using the polarity effect of the TVGs. The crowbar current of this circuit was investigated experimentally by varying applied voltage, inductance, capacitance, gap length of TVGs, and trigger current duration. A crowbar current, crest of which is 2.4 kA and 4.9/270µs for example, was observed. The probability of generating the crowbar current was more than about 90 %, in the following condition: the trigger current duration of 6.65 µs and the gap length of 2-6 mm.

Metal foil eddy currents induced with flat (stacked spiral) induction coils are calculated numerically using an almost exact approach. Edge bake phenomena of metal foils are investigated to develop a new all-over heat adhesion method. As our aim, this approach is constructed with basic formulas for theoretically analyzing the induction heating phenomena. Fundamental equations in electromagnetic theory are used and a calculation method of self-inductance is developed using the Neumann's formula. These results can be applied to certification of various computer simulations by software on the market concerned with the eddy current.

Analysis of lightning electromagnetic field using the FDTD method have been studied in recent year. However, large-scale three-dimensional analysis on real environment have not been considered, because the FDTD method has huge computational cost on large-scale analysis. So we have proposed a three-dimensional moving window FDTD (MW-FDTD) method with parallel computation. Our method use few computational cost than the conventional FDTD method and the original MW-FDTD method. In this paper, we have studied about computation performance of MW-FDTD parallel computation and large-scale three-dimensional analysis of lightning electromagnetic field on a real terrain model using our MW-FDTD with parallel computation.

The School of Engineering of Osaka University and the Department of electrical and electronic engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology, coordinated and conducted survey for university students, students and teachers of high schools in order to realize effective activities of enlightenment for high school students. From the results of survey, it was suggested that the high-school teachers the most influential to high-school students. One of the promising contents in open lecture for high school students was the recent advanced technology allowing for the content of the science subjects in high school.

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology introduced the recording notebook in the graduation work to understand status of practice and fulfillment of students. Using the recording notebook, the students record practice time and evaluate monthly self-fulfillment. Teachers can guide students based on the record and the self-fulfillment. The system using the recording notebook will help quality assurance of education in the graduation work.

To motivate students in classes by establishment of interactive communication between the students and a teacher, we provided construction-type slides to the students before lectures through a e-learning system and randomly assigned students questions to fill the construction-type slides in the lectures. From comparison between the same classes in two years which were performed with and without this educational method, score in examination was found to be slightly high in the class with this method. In addition, lecture evaluation questionnaires to the students revealed that this method surely motivated students and stimulated participation in the lecture.

Today, many goods are developed using the mental effect by the color. As a typical example, bath salts can be mentioned. In this study, the SD technique was used to quantitatively determine about how the color of solution influence the mental effect by 15 subjects. The results showed that effects by the red shades such as "warmth", and by the blue and purple shades such as "composedness", were high. Also, it clarified about the influence by the white muddiness.

Subjects in radiation shielding for the low aspect ratio tokamak commercial reactor VECTOR are discussed and their solutions are presented. Oxygen-free copper electrodes stored in the atmosphere were used as test samples. Changes of field emission characteristics with 500 repetitive breakdowns and He ion beam sputtering were investigated in conjunction with analyses of electrode surface conditions by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Experiments revealed that field emission currents were detected from electrodes used as the anode after 500 breakdowns, while for electrodes that were heavily contaminated and the cathode after 500 breakdowns field emission currents were not detected. Although anode and cathode surfaces were cleaned by 500 breakdowns, the cathode surfaces were more completely cleaned than the anode surfaces during repetitive 500 breakdowns. Residual carbon may play a role to dominate field emission characteristics and breakdown characteristics.
