This paper reports two studies on the sexual risk of female victims of bullying in Japan and the effects of supportive communication for them. Study 1 utilized the survey data collected from 182 Japanese undergraduates and explored the associations among bullying, support, and sexual risk. Latent profile analysis (LPA) detected five distinct profiles of victims and non-victims. LPA also revealed that the victims who had received less support had higher sexual risk (i.e., earlier sexual debut and a larger number of sexual partners), whereas the type of bullying made little differences. Study 2 utilized the online survey data collected from unmarried female full-timers working at companies in Japan (N=439) and examined a mediational model wherein victims' avoidant-coping tendency and communication efficacy mediate the effects of bullying and social support on sexual risk. Victims' sexual risk was operationalized by their lifetime number of sexual partners, the experience of unplanned sex, and the experience of unprotected sex. SEM revealed that: (a) bullying was positively associated with avoidant-coping tendency and negatively with communication efficacy; (b) stronger avoidant-coping tendency and weaker communication efficacy were associated with higher sexual risk (i.e., a larger number of sexual partners, higher likelihoods of having had an unplanned sex and/or an unprotected sex); and (c) social support showed protective effects to reduce sexual risk, both directly and indirectly (via mediation by the two psychological factors). These results were discussed with reference to the literature on bullying and victims' readjustment. Theoretical speculations about the mechanism underlying the effects of bullying and support were presented in regards to the structure of the bullying phenomenon, reappraisal-based theory of social support, and the importance of the communicative environment surrounding bullied victims. Practical implications and limitations of the current research, as well as the directions for future studies, were also discussed.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of trunk undulation on the swimming performance in underwater dolphin kick, and to clarify the ideal trunk undulation form. The reference swimming motion of an elite swimmer was firstly acquired from the video analysis, and input into the swimming human simulation model SWUM, which had been developed by the authors. The trunk motion was next optimized by the simulation for three objective functions: maximizing swimming speed, maximizing propulsive efficiency, and minimizing fluid force acting on hands. The following findings were obtained: In the case of maximizing swimming speed, the whole body forms a ‘C’ shape due to the in-phase trunk undulation. The swimming motion of maximizing propulsive efficiency and the reference swimming are considerably similar to each other. In both cases, the trunk moves as a seesaw with a node; whereas, the lower limbs form a traveling wave in the absolute space. The values of propulsive efficiency are around 0.2 in the cases of maximizing propulsive efficiency, minimizing fluid force on hands, and the reference swimming. The swimming motion in the case of minimizing fluid force on hands is almost the same as that of maximizing propulsive efficiency. The trunk undulation with the appropriate amplitudes and phases, especially bending at the chest, is important in realizing the swimming motion which maximizes propulsive efficiency.

Daylight harvesting is now attracting attention not only from energy saving but also from the viewpoint of improving the health and comfort of people working in the building. Daylighting standards, such as EN 17037:2018, provides the target values to obtain sufficient daylight, and also prescribe the evaluation criteria for view and glare. We used a Meta_Simulation platform that combined Radiance and NewHASP to evaluate lighting and air conditioning energy of exterior and interior sun shading devices. We confirmed the behaviour of basic parameters by combining glare and view evaluations from Radiance and using the graphical algorithm editor Grasshopper to calculate air conditioning/lighting energy, glare index and view. By utilizing the plug-in software OCTOPUS, we evaluated air conditioning/lighting energy usage, glare, and view based on four variables of exterior and interior sun shading devices and the optimal solution for Tokyo (Hyakuri) was confirmed. For glare, the vertical illuminance of the viewpoint was not high in the building targeted by our simulation, and because no cases exceeded the allowable simplified DGP value of 0.35, the threshold was lowered to evaluate glare in the multi-objective optimization calculation. Under the European Standard, view is evaluated based upon the horizontal angle of the window, the distance to adjacent buildings, and the number of layers for sky, landscape, and ground that can be seen (European committee for standardization, 2019). We used a simple evaluation based upon the ratio of sky that could be seen from a sample point, however it is possible to incorporate the view metrics of the EN 17037:2018 into our new module using Radiance. We conducted a multi-objective optimization calculation for the annual fixed angle of vertical louvers and of blinds typically used in the sun shading devices. In the future, we plan to apply optimization calculations to complex sun shading devices such as slat cut-off angle controls for blinds, moveable or curved surfaces for exterior sun shading.
